To be absolutely panicking

I've made me and my children stay indoors since Wednesday to lower risk of us catching virus. I'm a single parent, no family close by. I'm running out of food and I do not want to take my children out to get stuff as they can catch it as they will slow me down esp my 3 year old, and I have a baby. I'm absolutely panicking at how I will get out to get food?? How are other single parents with absolutely no one to help coping? I've heard online deliveries are only delivering to disabled and elderly. And whose to say the corona virus won't be present on those items.
What the hell am I going to do 😢

Do you or any of your children have any symptoms OP? If not, you are able to walk to a shop and buy food?

lubeybooby · 23/03/2020 13:09

it's only sainsburys prioritising elderly etc, and delivery saver customers get 2nd priority

Even in lockdown (we aren;t yet) you're still allowed to go shopping and can take kids if no one else to look after them. Do it this once while the risk is still fairly low and then nab yourself some slots for in future. You'll get them if you keep an eye on delivery slot pages.

pawsies · 23/03/2020 13:10

Check out independent food shops online. A lot are doing home deliveries now.

headhurtstoomuch · 23/03/2020 13:11

Milk and more are doing deliveries.

Quarantino · 23/03/2020 13:12

If you have no symptoms and are not in the vulnerable group, you need to practise social distancing, not self- isolation. They are basically the same except social distancing means you can go and get essential supplies like food. Keep away from others, wash hands frequently, use gloves for trolley if possible and don't touch your phone etc until you're back and have washed your hands.
Going out once a week should be ok - if you develop symptoms from one outing at least you will be aware before you go out again. Obviously people can have it without symptoms so we can never be sure without testing.

Fivefourthree · 23/03/2020 13:12

If you're on Facebook, there are local groups being set up, OP, that put volunteers in contact with people who can't get out.
People are also sharing details of places that will do home delivery if you phone them.
Please don't fret too much about the virus coming in on things. The drivers are taking all the precautions that they can.

Kittykat93 · 23/03/2020 13:13

You can still go out op. Go to the supermarket or your local shop

iamabox · 23/03/2020 13:17

Locally we have a a butchers, and also a fruiters for fruit veg and eggs..
A local convenience store is offering deliveries for self isolating parents with children..
Do you have anything like those near to you?

Check Facebook for those local to you.

Redwinestillfine · 23/03/2020 13:17

Online deliveries are absolutely not only delivering to the elderly and vulnerable. Sign up with all the supermarkets and keep checking until you get a slot. It may take a week ( and the slot may not be for a few weeks but at least you'll sort future food). You may be able to get click and collect and leave the kids in the car while you pick up? In the meantime the milkman can deliver bread, bacon, eggs, yoghurts etc. Can you drive to a shop and just dash in or walk to corner shop early? What about school WhatsApp groups? Ours are a friendly bunch sure someone would order stuff for you and drop off if you transferred them money.

Peanut55 · 23/03/2020 13:18

Try and visit a smaller express type shop if you are worried about big supermarkets.

How would you have done your shopping if there was no Coronavirus?

inthedarkx · 23/03/2020 13:21

I don't drive unfortunately
Normally I would walk the 30 minute walk to the shops. I don't have shops closer than that.
I'm just worried that if I take them out and they catch it we will all get it and that's it

Keeva2017 · 23/03/2020 13:25

Iv just ordered meat from muscle food. Also fb have local groups offering to get a delivery for you?

Walk to an expres store and either put the rain cover over a buggy or if they are sensible wait outside and just keep them mostly in eye sight.

Peanut55 · 23/03/2020 13:28

If you practice social distancing then it reduces the risk massively. Unfortunately this isn't going to go away in the next week and you need to find a way.

JustInCaseCakeHappens · 23/03/2020 13:40

Join any local facebook group you can

People local from you will be a lot more helpful because they have the right information.

JudyCoolibar · 23/03/2020 13:40

I'm just worried that if I take them out and they catch it we will all get it and that's it

Even if you do, unless you have any underlying condition it's unlikely to make you seriously ill.

Stefoscope · 23/03/2020 13:48

Assuming you're all young and healthy even if you do catch it you'll feel really ill for a few days and that will be it. The social distancing is there to protect those with underlying conditions who will feel the effects of the virus a lot more seriously.

chipsandgin · 23/03/2020 13:54

Loads of community groups all over the country are volunteering to collect and deliver food to those who can’t for whatever reason. Facebook, Nextdoor (website or app), local churches. Or just google it - it’s out there & its being done widely.

CarolHasAnotherUTI · 23/03/2020 15:48

Try this maybe?

JustInCaseCakeHappens · 23/03/2020 16:18

Even if you do, unless you have any underlying condition it's unlikely to make you seriously ill.

the reason why so many countries are on lockdown at a HUGE cost that will completely ruin the economy for years is because it's simply not true.

Caryler · 23/03/2020 17:21

Morrisons food boxes? They do next day delivery

MereDintofPandiculation · 23/03/2020 18:01

then nab yourself some slots for in future. In other words, stockpile slots so the rest of us can't get them?

TwoZeroTwoZero · 23/03/2020 18:40

Thank you for the Morrison's food box info. My dad, who is an alcoholic and has limited mobility due to a broken hip and some serious mental health issues, is struggling to get hold of some things so I've ordered one for him.

DressesWithPocketsRockMyWorld · 23/03/2020 18:58

Could you try something like Hello Fresh or Gousto? You can get a voucher online so it's a bit cheaper.

81Byerley · 23/03/2020 19:02

Look at the morrisons website. www.morrisons.com/food-boxes/box/Meat-Food-Box
They send the boxes out by DPD.
