Are Amazon still delivering non essential items?

I need some stuff for growing food. But can't get to the shops.
Can we still order things from amazon? Like compost, stuff like that?

I ordered compost from Amazon earlier today, and the delivery is scheduled for 25th-26th so I'm assuming it should be ok still.

mynameisMrG · 22/03/2020 23:01

I got an amazon order yesterday of non essential things

MyOtherProfile · 22/03/2020 23:01

Yes.

Shelley54 · 22/03/2020 23:01

Yes it's as normal except not so many next day prime deliveries available due to weight of traffic.

Titsywoo · 22/03/2020 23:02

Some stuff yes but lots says delivery 19th April at the moment.

MrsToothyBitch · 22/03/2020 23:02

I got 2 non essential orders over the weekend. Seems to be ok.

Lockheart · 22/03/2020 23:03

Surely your best bet would be to check on Amazon rather than AIBU?

Northernsoullover · 22/03/2020 23:04

I had my Spanish verb book today. It said it wouldn't arrive until next week.

SneezyMcSneezeface · 22/03/2020 23:04

So many other shops online that you could go to.

RamblingFar · 22/03/2020 23:05

Yes, managed to get two lots ordered for my new work at home office this week thankfully.

browzingss · 22/03/2020 23:05

Yes, obviously

Oakmaiden · 22/03/2020 23:06

I am fretting (very slightly) about whether a tightening of restrictions will prevent businesses from delivering non-essential items. What do you think?

TheWordmeister · 22/03/2020 23:06

I have just ordered Miele bags and vitamins on Prime - both for delivery tomorrow.

Sparklesocks · 22/03/2020 23:07

I understand they are yes but giving priority to essential items, so you may have to wait a bit longer - I’ve read articles which suggested most non essentials will be delivered after 5 April (Not sure if it’s the same if you have prime)

NewtonPulsifer · 22/03/2020 23:08

Try a local garden centre. Ours needs to survive so is doing free delivery on orders or telephone orders that you can drive up and they will load in the boot for you. Amazon can take the hit.

thatwouldbeanecumenicalmatter · 22/03/2020 23:09

They are but be aware studies show covid can survive on cardboard for up to 24 hours. I'd leave it in it's packaging for at least a day before opening (outside if possible). I'm not judging you OP, obviously growing food will help ease one households pressure on the supermarkets but personally I'm not ordering things from Amazon as I can't consciously put their staff, pickers, delivery drivers in danger for 'stuff' and would advise others to do likewise for non essentials.

Zombiemum1946 · 22/03/2020 23:11

Great question. My kids want to start growing herbs and so on. I'd rather not take them round the shops.

Destinysdaughter · 22/03/2020 23:15

Again, try local garden centres for things like compost, I know my local one delivers.

ErrolTheDragon · 22/03/2020 23:15

There are other threads on ordering seeds and other gardening stuff - you don't need to use Amazon, much better if you can find a local supplier who delivers or will do the equivalent of click &collect.

TerrorWig · 22/03/2020 23:25

Yes. I ordered stuff yesterday, some came today and some arrives tomorrow. The delivery man fair lobbed it at us through the door!

Theyrecomingtotakemeawayhaha · 22/03/2020 23:34

We got compost from our local garden center.Phoned them first then collected it.

Aesopfable · 22/03/2020 23:38

Yes. But looking for compost today any there are range of much better sites to go to rather than amazon.

RUSU92 · 22/03/2020 23:42

Yes - I order random things for my business from Amazon, (so not things that would ordinarily be considered ‘essential’ but given the lack of provision for self-employed people in the government’s very generous Covid-19 support package, things I need to keep on working, so they’re essential to me!). I’ve had the usual next day delivery as promised on everything I’ve ordered, from cat food to craft supplies.

sestras · 22/03/2020 23:57

Had an amazon delivery today and another tomorrow.
