Jet2 have been amazing today
Ryanair sent their prayers after cancelling all their flights
AIBU to think it would have been better if they had sent a fucking aeroplane?

OP posts:
iwanttoshakesomeppl · 22/03/2020 03:37

No because idiots shouldn't of flown out knowing we had a pandemic!

EerieSilence · 22/03/2020 03:42

WTF were people thinking flying out on holidays during a global pandemic? I would be sending my prayers to the muppets stuck on their lovely hollies too.

Lynda07 · 22/03/2020 03:54

Only idiots say, "Shouldn't of".

lolbrador · 22/03/2020 03:56

My parents also were with jet2 thankfully. They've been out Lanzarote since early January. Tried to get home early over the last couple of weeks but we're assured to stick to their original flight.

Others in hotel not so lucky it seems. Impressed with jet2 communication

ffswhatnext · 22/03/2020 03:58

I do wish more airlines would say you know what, fuck off. Not flying passengers any more.
The first week, yes people want to get home. And at that time no-one knew what was quickly heading this way.
Three weeks later, good luck, you're on your own.

Casino218 · 22/03/2020 03:59

Many people got stuck when it suddenly escalated. Glad you got home ok op.

ffswhatnext · 22/03/2020 04:03

3 weeks ago, we were 2 weeks behind Italy. We could see then what was coming.

Wannabangbang · 22/03/2020 04:06

Don't understand why they are allowing flights anywhere at the moment. Unfortunately this isn't helping the situation, each country has it's own harrowing story to tell and death toll, free movement needs to be stopped and people should be self isolating not flying home or on holiday. I quite frankly see this as nuts. Potentially you are or were a flight risk, i despair i really do. How will be ever rid ourselves of this down the line if people are flying all over the place. Selfish sorry

PhilCornwall1 · 22/03/2020 04:08

When did you fly out there?

Mummyoflittledragon · 22/03/2020 04:23

I know, how inconsiderate of them to leave you stranded when it was beyond stupid to go there in the first place or ridiculous to not try to leave if you’d been there a long time. I presume it’s the former. You seem to have a busy life according to other threads...

B1rds0ngs519 · 22/03/2020 04:32

We booked our flights a long time before news of the virus

The airline did not cancel our flights, so we flew

The country that we flew to had very few cases of the virus ( less than our home country) and still does

We are sadly flying home early

B1rds0ngs519 · 22/03/2020 04:51

I'm going to add

Yes have travel insurance. If we had not flown out, we would NOT have received any money back for the flights ( hotels booked separately)

Flights back have been cancelled
So we have paid for our own flights back & cancelled the hotel which had free cancellation

Nothing is how it used to be !

We have been making decisions on a day to day basis

Nobody could have foreseen this

Roselilly36 · 22/03/2020 05:07

We had booked to go to Spain last tues, we decided 5 weeks ago that we would cancel and were prepared to lose the money paid for our flights. We thought the airline would do the sensible thing and cancel our flight, as Spain was in lock down etc, no the flight still went ahead, very irresponsible, the return flight was cancelled though, so we will get a refund for that flight. No way would be have considered travelling during Covid 19.

B1rds0ngs519 · 22/03/2020 05:20

The country that we flew to has only just started on the path of shut down, not in Europe

HurryBaby · 22/03/2020 05:26

@B1rds0ngs519 - most of us did see this coming. We looked at the cases in other countries and could see that it was only a matter of time before it became serious here too. Of course the airlines were still flying. There was no government directive no to and they needed to operate their businesses - but common sense would be not to fly. Because in travelling you are becoming part of the problem not the solution.

I really hope you are taking extra strict precautions when coming home and going into quarantine for 14 days so you limit exposure to passing anything on to others. People who think that they can continue with their normal lives at this time are really selfish.

DianaT1969 · 22/03/2020 05:26

When you decided to go, because you would lose money on the flight, it also meant that you were exposing yourselves to recycled cabin air. Both ways. For non-essential travel.

Calledyoulastnightfromglasgow · 22/03/2020 05:33

Jet2 have always been good. I book them even if they are more expensive than Ryanair

I don’t fly much TBH. But I would rather piggy back the back of a crocodile than use Ryanair

B1rds0ngs519 · 22/03/2020 05:37

At the time there was NO government directive related to non essential travel, but things have changed

On return to home country, my employer has already implemented working from home. So that is what we will be doing & the 14 day isolation

People don't receive benefits in the country that we have traveled to

It's easy to look at things with hindsight

Marnie76 · 22/03/2020 05:39

B1rds0ngs519
I hope the holiday was worth it! Anyone with any sense would not have flown regardless of losing money. This has been around for months now. Take it serious when you are back please, as you don’t seem to have so far.

HanaHeya · 22/03/2020 05:42

Nobody could have foreseen this

It doesn’t matter when you booked your flights, it’s when you travelled that made the difference. If you left home anytime since January you have been very foolish and very selfish. It has been perfectly obvious what was going to happen. We cancelled our trip (due away next week) at the end of Jan. we’ve lost some money on it too but I’d rather be safe than sorry.

speakout · 22/03/2020 05:50

Why on earth did you go?

B1rds0ngs519 · 22/03/2020 05:53

I've never said that we were not taking it seriously

Friends were in country before we left, they didn't advise us to travel

B1rds0ngs519 · 22/03/2020 05:54

Didn't advise us NOT to travel

speakout · 22/03/2020 05:57

Didn't advise us NOT to travel

You could have used some sensible judgement yourself.

wecandothispeeps · 22/03/2020 05:59

Sorry op, but you choose to 'risk it' and we are dealing with a pandemic here in the UK, getting you back from the beach just is not a priority.

If you choose to fly out on holiday in the middle of the biggest crisis this country has ever seen then that is matter for you, but do not expect to come over and above all else.

Another six months on the beach is hardly a hardship. I would stay there to be honest.
