Do you know where your kids are right now?

Over the last week there has been a large increase in anti-social behaviour on Britain's railway network. Gangs of youths hanging around stations and boarding trains when they should be social distancing. Do you know where your kids are right now? Do you have anything more than their word for it? British Transport Police and the territorial police forces have better things to do than rounding your kids up.

Apart from anything else, if you have no good reason to be out in public, DON'T be.

Rant over.

Sorry, was being a dick.

All this shit is getting to me Sad

TheGreatWave · 22/03/2020 08:48

Yes, yes I know exactly where they are.

[Continues rocking in the corner, aware it is only day 2]

TabbyMumz · 22/03/2020 08:49

"Seriously though, aren’t most kids in?"
Nope. Most kids in our street are playing out together.

DippyAvocado · 22/03/2020 08:51

I live near a park. Parents with young children are largely staying away but all day and evening yesterday it was filled with groups of 11-16 year olds. Not every parent is monitoring their teens.

DysonFury · 22/03/2020 08:56

Not sure Mumsnet parents are the right demographic for you to be nagging OP.

"Not sure Mumsnet parents are the right demographic for you to be nagging OP."

I agree, those Mums are all on your local facebook page, all crying about how it's the end of the world they missed their prom or their last day st school. So "aww let them out to see their mates".

ScrumptiousBears · 22/03/2020 09:56

To be fair no one who has these feral kids are going to admit it on here. I was coming home on Friday where some old years in serious schools had already shut and they were groups everywhere.

There is always going to be those families who think nothing applies to them. They won't self isolate and let their kids run riot.

I feel that same about threads or FB posts about panic buying. These types of people will not read or listen to how bad it is because they are selfish and don't care 🤷🏼‍♀️

DamsonDress · 22/03/2020 10:11

DS12 got huffy when I told him he couldn't go to the shop. He was told to catch himself on.

Does no harm to tell them no. I'd be the first to admit I'm terrible at saying no. Manipulating me is The Boy's specialist subject.

I know it's not the same kind of child the OP refers to but we need to be firm parents right now. I absolutely include myself in that. Social distancing trumps everything atm. Including my diddums need for chocolate Yazoo or other diddums need to interfere with trains. Hmm

Aragog · 22/03/2020 10:17

My dd is at home in self isolation.
Next weekend when that ends she will be adhering right social distancing.

It's rare I don't know, or couldn't truthfully find out, where my teen dd is.

Thymelord · 22/03/2020 11:52

Seriously though, aren’t most kids in

Not round here they aren't, no. Gangs of teens causing havoc in supermarkets, the parks are teeming with kids. Nobody gives a fuck.

I get your point completely OP. The local police posted similar to you on Facebook last night, saying that a group of nearly 100 teens were in the local park drinking. The comments were very much along the lines of "oh give them a break, its tradition when you leave school". Lots of "nasty police" and "concentrate on real crime" bollocks.

Thymelord · 22/03/2020 11:55

Not sure Mumsnet parents are the right demographic for you to be nagging

I completely disagree with this, and it's actually pretty offensive. I can promise you that these feral kids aren't all the offspring of us working class chavs, whilst the sweet little middle class teens are sat at home pressing dried flowers with mummy Hmm

Slothkin · 22/03/2020 18:26

Drugs, dirty dancing and pounding, pounding techno music?

(Shout out to any old goths!

Slothkin · 22/03/2020 18:33

OP I really didn’t mean that meanly, it just made me giggle and I had a very happy boogie unloading the dishwasher!

GetUpAgain · 22/03/2020 18:56

Luckily my teens are being totally compliant so far, unlike a lot of their classmates. We facetimed their grandparents earlier who thanked them for isolating and although it sounds cheesy it made the kids quite proud. We have dragged them out on country walk in middle of nowhere which blew away cobwebs.

Cezzy · 22/03/2020 21:01

One is sitting on sofa with us, the other is in the bath (we can hear her singing)! They allow us to use the find my I phone app when out so we know where they are, especially as DD1 has to drive on rural roads and we don’t abuse it but it gives us peace of mind and they understand if they break down or are in trouble we can hopefully get to them.

Ronnie27 · 22/03/2020 21:06

Upstairs in bed, we all just watched a film together.

ShesGotBetteDavisEyes · 22/03/2020 21:08

In the house with me and dh. Which is where they will stay for the foreseeable future. (DH sent ds’s friend packing today when he popped up behind our hedge!)
No more hanging out with mates sadly.

JKScot4 · 22/03/2020 21:10

DD2 collected from uni today is downstairs with DD3 watching tv, DS on xbox in his room.
Had a chat earlier about sharing cooking, cleaning, walking dogs etc, they’re a good lot willing to make the best of it.
DD2 a bit miffed at losing her social life but it’s not forever.
