Do you know where your kids are right now?

Over the last week there has been a large increase in anti-social behaviour on Britain's railway network. Gangs of youths hanging around stations and boarding trains when they should be social distancing. Do you know where your kids are right now? Do you have anything more than their word for it? British Transport Police and the territorial police forces have better things to do than rounding your kids up.

Apart from anything else, if you have no good reason to be out in public, DON'T be.

Rant over.

Out trainspotting.

boatyardblues · 21/03/2020 22:46

However I went up later and she'd voluntarily put her clean clothes away

Strange times indeed.

Rosebel · 21/03/2020 22:49

11 and 13 year olds are currently sat on the sofa with us watching the end of a film. They don't go out much anyway and never past 7. That was obviously before coronavirus, at the moment they don't to out at all (apart from one walk in the morning, away from others).

Justgorgeous · 21/03/2020 22:53

Teenagers in their rooms. 15 year old went up to try local football pitch on his own at 7pm for 30 mins and I think it hit home that he can’t be with his friends. Daughter 4 has been asleep since 6:30pm.

Vulpine · 21/03/2020 22:56

I agree op. Unfortunately this thread has now turned in to parents listing where their kids are.

MuddlingMackem · 21/03/2020 23:02

YANBU. Mine haven't been out of the house at all today, will have to try and get them out somewhere safe for fresh air and exercise at some point. However, there have been posts on local facebook groups about teenagers congregating, and I agree how stupid that is, let alone the vandalism you're talking about.

Quickquestion2020 · 21/03/2020 23:04

Our office is in a rougher area. We have put up extra security measures due to kids being off without direction. I can imagine myself as a 15/16yr old in their position and a lot of the kids would be wreaking havoc! School is the only place a lot of these kids get any discipline or structure in their lives, we're seeing alot of small gangs in places they shouldn't be. Including on our roof!

Pineappletree33 · 21/03/2020 23:08

Actually I don’t know. Dd popped to the co-op 45 mins ago and she’s still not back. Should I be worried, she’s just shy of 2?

ToPlanZ · 21/03/2020 23:15

I understand what you're saying OP. I was shocked while driving home to see a huge group of teenagers running about, shouting, running into the road. There must have been at least 30. As I got another 5 miles towards home I pass a McDonalds and another sizeable group not as rowdy but all hugging or stood very close together. I wondered what on earth their parents had said to them about unnecessary social contact?!

Notcontent · 21/03/2020 23:24

I also get what you are saying OP. I am concerned that there is very likely going to be a rise in antisocial behaviour.

user1494182820 · 21/03/2020 23:27

Yanbu, I've been out at work tonight (delivery driver) and there are loads of kids hanging around the streets in groups. From probably age 9ish (earlier on) to teenagers Angry

TheMagiciansMewTwo · 21/03/2020 23:29

Mine is sleeping at the bottom of my bed because I have a cough and he has anxiety. He's over 6ft away from me.

EmeraldShamrock · 21/03/2020 23:41

Not even a rise in antisocial behaviour, they are not taking social distancing seriously.
They'll be the first to kill the vulnerable off. My Dsis told my niece 18 to stay with her friend as she won't listen or stay in, all her friends off work, college acting so selfish. Dsis has an autoimmune disease her DD hasn't been home in 3 days.

Cazza6474 · 21/03/2020 23:49

4/5 in the massive makeshift bed we have made up for a sleepover together as they are all worried in different ways
My oldest is at uni year 2 paediatric nursing on placement im terrified for him

RufustheLanglovingreindeer · 21/03/2020 23:52

Yes

1 went to sleep at 8.30

1 is supposed to be finishing his homework in the kitchen

1 is playing computer games in his room

They are between 16 and 21 so probably not the right age group

RufustheLanglovingreindeer · 21/03/2020 23:53

I agree op. Unfortunately this thread has now turned in to parents listing where their kids are

Oops sorry

Learn to refresh Rufus...learn to refresh

But yes...I understand the Ops point

Dylaninthemovies1 · 21/03/2020 23:57

I think he’s asleep in his bed. Well, he is 4, and all his pals will also be asleep. They are planning a massive hand holding and hugging party at the local railway line tomorrow though

justcly · 22/03/2020 00:00

Littl'uns are all in bed. My eldest (22) is playing Scrabble with my girlfriend. Judging by the raucous laughter they're making rude words.

Tellmetruth4 · 22/03/2020 06:45

Totally get your point and don’t understand why people are getting defensive and listing where their own kids are.

I popped to the grocery store for bread yesterday. It was sunny so lots of people out and most were social distancing but many of the teenagers where in large groups chatting and laughing like it was a normal Saturday. These were not feral type kids either just normal teens who clearly think the rules don’t apply to them because they are young and invincible. Eventually this behaviour will mean we will all be forced to stay at home.

LucaFritz · 22/03/2020 06:50

Ha! The kind of parents who raise these feral little chavs you speak of aren't the type to use MN op Hmm they'll be at home glued to their phones or TV not giving a shite their offspring are out causing misery

GreenWheat · 22/03/2020 06:56

Mine are downstairs making me a special Mother's Day breakfast.

Tellmetruth4 · 22/03/2020 07:06

I actually don’t believe it’s only the kids of ‘underclass’ parents wandering in gangs at all. Many teens across all demographics think they’re invincible and won’t be told what do or will lie about where they’re going.

Some parents are hanging on to their zero hours job by a thread trying to keep a roof over their families head so may not have enough energy to also argue with a 15 year old who’s bored of X-box and has spun some BS story about ‘just’ going to see their girlfriend when the real plan is to go and see their equally bored mates who will egg each other on and think it’s funny to run through deserted train stations.

I’ve also seen the kids of very middle class parents out drinking with their mates in the park so the stereotype of it just being kids of underclass defying restrictions and being a nuisance or causing trouble is not true.

In fact the most irresponsible person I’ve seen was a very loud braying woman in the park with 2 under 5s telling her friend that her DH was at home with symptoms but she needed to get out so was in the park with her kids. The friend she was telling this to visibly recoiled and jumped back.

EmeraldShamrock · 22/03/2020 08:28

I’ve also seen the kids of very middle class parents out drinking with their mates in the park so the stereotype of it just being kids of underclass defying restrictions and being a nuisance or causing trouble is not true My Nephew is in university, he is working class, he blends well with the others but thinks the mc social life is crazy, no boundaries, lots of confidence, bags of cocaine, It really shocked him they so many take drugs. Not all obviously.

DonkeyKong2019 · 22/03/2020 08:38

One is sat on my lap and the other is clinging my leg.

At this rate They Will still be permanently attached to me in 50 years time

Pinkarsedfly · 22/03/2020 08:45

My 19 year old is getting ready to go to work his retail job, serving thoughtless and rude people who are fighting over loo roll and bleach. He took some time out to give me a mother’s day card and gift first though.

The 21 year old is still in bed. He spent yesterday evening writing his dissertation and playing the guitar to cheer me up.

So ner.
