OH won't lend me money to take dog to vets

Have posted about my abusive relationship many of times. My dog has an ear infection I had a few pounds in my bank so brought some ear drops for him they don't seem to do anything. I've just looked in his ear and it's full of yellow discharge looks like an infection.

OH won't lend me some money to take him to the vets. Does anyone know whether they take instalments?

He's feeling very sorry for himself at the minute it's breaking my heart.

I would ask the vet about paying in instalments - I know some will do it. If not, if you are in receipt of certain benefits, you could go to the PDSA, if you have one nearby.

I hope you can get this sorted.

ghostyslovesheets · 20/03/2020 16:57

your vet will know if they take instalments - give them a call

LoudBatPerson · 20/03/2020 16:59

Many vets do, call them and ask If no luck maybe try PDSA.

Can you look into getting insurance (pay monthly) going forward?

Lastly, are you receiving any support for your relationship and freeing yourself?

Useryokyesno · 20/03/2020 16:59

Could you go to the pdsa? I'm not sure how it works though. Or a local animal charity. Do you live with your OH?

1Morewineplease · 20/03/2020 17:00

A PDSA vet is your best bet for now.
In the long term, you really need to leave your partner.

loosingtheplott · 20/03/2020 17:00

Thanks will try pdsa first and I have insurance for him.

I'm fine I'm waiting for a house from the council looking at 8 weeks at the moment and il be out of here 😊

If you can stick the fee on a CC and worry about it later!

Hotshakes · 20/03/2020 17:08

Some will do a payment plan and if a regular client may try help you out to get pet treated, give them a call.

Otherwise theres some charities that maybe able to help. Are you entitled to PDSA help? Think its some benefits & postcode based.

Its an offence to not seek vet treatment for a pet if that may help get OH to fund it.

I know its not easy but please get yourself out of that relationship, know you deserve better.

LovingLola · 20/03/2020 17:09

Poor dog ☹️

CoffeeAndDryShampoo · 20/03/2020 17:12

If you have insurance for him some vets will do a direct claim with your insurance company.

loosingtheplott · 20/03/2020 17:13

Thanks for suggesting pdsa wish I knew before. No appointments now until Monday so just going to wait it out with him x

OP posts:
Hotshakes · 20/03/2020 17:14

Depending on insurance company many vets will do a direct claim and you'd just pay the excess.

bringincrazyback · 20/03/2020 17:15

Hope they can get him sorted for you OP, and I'm glad you've got a plan to get away from your OH.

underthepatio · 20/03/2020 17:15

Is there a pdsa clinic near you? They may be able to help.

LumaLou · 20/03/2020 17:16

If you can stick the fee on a CC and worry about it later!

That’s terrible advice. See what the Vet surgery says first, or contact PDSA.

Credit card should be an absolute last resort!

Hotshakes · 20/03/2020 17:17

You can ring for advice and if they think urgent will often squeeze in

dworky · 20/03/2020 17:17

If you can't manage to get treatment & you're in the process of leaving, Dogs Trust will temporarily care for your dog. www.dogstrust.org.uk/help-advice/hope-project-freedom-project/freedom-project

Best of luck OP

MrsMoastyToasty · 20/03/2020 17:18

Maybe there's a vet on here that could advise on pet first aid.
(In the long term get the vet to have OH PTS).

Flymetothetoon · 20/03/2020 17:20

@Lumalou better that than let the poor dog suffer ffs!!

Flymetothetoon · 20/03/2020 17:21

And it looks like the dog will now be suffering until Monday

seekingwaxwings · 20/03/2020 17:22

My vet has an interest free payment scheme, it was excellent when our dcat got ill.

LoudBatPerson · 20/03/2020 17:24

Good to hear :)

A local vet might be able to claim the fees directly from your insurer and may allow you to defer the excess payment for a short while. Might be able to get him seen sooner then. Poor thing must be in pain. I hope he is feeling better soon.
