I work for a very large pub company.
They have not closed their venues.

In fact they are keeping ALL of their many hundreds fo pubs, bars and NIGHTCLUBS open.

Don't believe me Facebook search your local Popworld.

Nobody is allowed to post a lot on social media.

Even fucking better now is that managers who are short on staff have to communicate with others in their area to lend and swap bar staff. So travel around and work in different venues.

Also Guinness and Ale is on sale 👍

I have friends, family and colleagues who work in these venues and I am now terrified.

They just don't give a flying fuck. What is it going to take for them to stop endangering people.

And don't have any faith in the great British public. They are absolutely going out. Even to our nightclubs.

And these people are not the most naturally sanitary. And some are still working.

Businesses are making tough decisions in difficult times. I don’t envy them at the minute. Stay open and face criticism, or close and potentially have to make staff redundant or lose the business for good.

I do question why no-one seems concerned about the poor supermarket workers who I am quite sure are encountering far more people than anyone working in a bar or club at the minute.

The models already allow for the fact that not everyone will follow the advice. If they did, it could spread too slowly.

Don't know how much more real I can get. At risk of getting the virus, passing it to my small children and me and my partner losing our jobs.

It is hard though smiling to customers while hoping this virus does some good and eradicates them from the planet.

I was shocked to see that a local nightclub is staying open and saying it's up to customers to make their choice. I understand business etc etc but I think it's really irresponsible.

We can't blame the govt for this one on any level - this is nature doing its thing, and all the humans are struggling to find a way to stop it.

It isn't like the war where negotiation could end the bombing, it all goes away and you pick up the pieces.

So I have business insurance that covers infectious disease, but the under writers are saying that as coronavirus is not on their list we are not covered.
I honestly think there is no insurance that would cover you as this is a novel disease so insurance was always going to be able to wriggle out as it is not specifically covered in the T&Cs.

AmelieTaylor · 20/03/2020 05:26

@Lonecatwithkitten. The Govt has said that they have cleared it with insurance companies - check who your underwriter is & contact them if you’re not getting anywhere with your insurance company. Good luck.it might be time consuming & frustrating, but it definitely should be possible. Email to your MP too!

ArgumentativeAardvaark · 20/03/2020 09:52

@Lonecatwithkitten @AmelieTaylor

That’s not quite right. What the government cleared with the insurers was that where a policy would cover coronavirus, insurers would not decline on the basis that the government had not made it mandatory for businesses to close.

The agreement did not go so far as to say that they would pay out for things that were never included within the scope of the cover.

alloutoffucks · 20/03/2020 09:54

We can blame the government for how they respond to this crisis.

JustGoFurther · 20/03/2020 09:57

I work for one of the big 4 supermarkets.
Earlier this week they were still telling vulnerable staff (over70, asthmatic, diabetic etc) that they still had to come into work.
Now they’ve changed the advice to contact line manager 🙄

RightOnTheEdge · 20/03/2020 10:19

I also work for a large pub chain, one of the ones already mentioned.
They will absolutely not close unless forced to. In fact the Chairman (I bet you can all guess who he is!) seems pretty proud of us carrying on. He is also spouting some dangerous and unscientific nonsense about the virus and how we should all behave.
I am a single parent with no family help and I after today when the schools close I will be off work unpaid.
Nobody can get any answers from the company about what their policy will be for parents in this situation or what will happen to our jobs in the long term.

There were still plenty of people in eating yesterday and I fully expect us to be full of parents and kids while they are off school.

Lonecatwithkitten · 20/03/2020 11:30

@AmelieTaylor I am afraid @ArgumentativeAardvaark is completely right it is confirmation from the underwriters that whilst they cover for infectious disease it is only the infectious diseases on the list which does not include coronavirus as it is a novel disease. My insurance agent has said ( they advise a huge proportion of my industry as they are very specialist) that unless the government intervenes to specifically force them to add coronavirus retrospectively to the list we will not be covered.

LakieLady · 20/03/2020 11:47

That's another pub chain added to my boycott list now, then.

Bunch of anti-social, irresponsible, venal pillocks.

Bellesboo2 · 20/03/2020 11:57

It's so difficult to see where the line is.
I work for a large company and my office probably has 500 employees in one open plan space. Nothing has been done to lower the amount of people in at any one time, or even discuss home working.
I'd appreciate not having to sit elbow to elbow from the next person, but not sure what else I can do, as I need to work.
