AIBU to reapply for a job I was turned down for?

I had an interview last week which i didn't get. Had some feedback after and they told me in great detail how I could have answered some of the questions better.
The job is now being advertised again.
Would I be unreasonable to reapply? Nowhere on the advert does it say "previous applicants need not apply".
Wondered if anyone else had been successful on their second attempt?
Really is a great opportunity but I feel very unsure about re-applying

Go for it, what do you have to lose?

Thisismytimetoshine · 16/03/2020 18:57

They may not accept you as a possible candidate, when you only failed the interview last week?!

tensmum1964 · 16/03/2020 18:58

Contact them and ask them, although I would suspect that if you had been appointable, they would have offered it to you. No harm in asking though.

gabsdot45 · 16/03/2020 18:58

Go for it. I was on an interview panel once where a candidate was unsuccessful but took on board our feedback and got the job a few months later

RippleEffects · 16/03/2020 18:58

Absolutely go for it. Nothing to be lost. Write down all the feedback and make sure you can demonstrate you've taken it on board.

Resilience is a great life skill, wish I could practice it more. If they recognise it as the strength it is, they could see you as a real asset.

Haggisfish · 16/03/2020 18:59

I had this for a teaching post. Reapplied and got it. Def apply.

NeverYouMind123 · 16/03/2020 18:59

I think it would make you look determined and willing to listen to advice. Go for it!

BeetrootRocks · 16/03/2020 19:01

Agree go for it

Nothing to lose and they may be rethinking if failed to find someone first go

BretonKitten · 16/03/2020 19:02

I’ve employed people who were previously turned down, in a field where persistence and resilience where indicators of future success.

Not usually that quickly though.

That said, it might be that they turned you down and offered it to someone else. Then that person turned it down or initially accepted it but their current employer made a counter-offer to keep them once they tried to hand in their notice.

Thisismytimetoshine · 16/03/2020 19:05

Wouldn’t they offer it to any appointable runners up rather than re advertising, though?
No harm in asking of course.

DareDevil223 · 16/03/2020 19:10

A few years ago I got turned down for a job, reapplied when the person who got the job didn't work out and got it the second time.No harm in trying, go for it.

amusedbush · 16/03/2020 19:10

I interviewed for my job three times! The first time I was pipped to the post by someone with more direct experience but the panel made it clear that they really liked me. I got it on the third try Smile

amusedbush · 16/03/2020 19:11

The first two times*

ellanwood · 16/03/2020 19:15

I'd write a cover letter saying that you have reflected on the excellent feedback they gave and that you are still really keen to be considered. If they give you a second chance you would like to show them how swiftly you have taken on board their constructive criticism and hope that goes some way to prove what a keen candidate you are.
You have nothing to lose.

Good luck.

Suze1621 · 16/03/2020 19:20

I think Ellanwood has given good advice. However don't be too disappointed if you do not get an interview - my organisation would not re-interview an unappointable candidate this quickly.

DragonMamma · 16/03/2020 19:22

If you only interviewed last week then I wouldn’t bother. They’d have offered you the job if they thought you were a possible winner.

Plus, you are effectively resitting a test now you have the answers!

TotesGodsWill · 16/03/2020 19:44

You’ve nothing to lose by applying, so go for it

Hortuslover · 16/03/2020 19:46

I recently applied for a job that I didn’t get last year, made sure I prepared better for it and got offered the job.

bellabasset · 16/03/2020 19:53

Yes go for it as ellanwood suggested. Good luck 🤞

Incrediblytired · 16/03/2020 20:03

Definitely give them a ring and ask if they’d be willing to accept an application from you. They will likely change the interview questions a bit though! Good luck!

Obbydoo · 16/03/2020 20:25

Ring them and ask them. I work in recruitment and wouldnt interview you if you didn't make it the first time round. I appreciate that sounds really harsh but job apps take a while to put together and I imagine you will be wasting your time unless they tell you otherwise.

TheNewSchmoo · 16/03/2020 20:28

I think if more time had passed I would, but, as a recruiter, I'd consider you part of the unsuccessful batch and wouldn't interview you again.

Stompythedinosaur · 16/03/2020 20:31

I think this is fine. Go for it, you won't loose anything.

OlivejuiceU2 · 17/03/2020 11:46

You can of course apply but don’t been too disheartened if you don’t get it. My current job I didn’t get it during interview but a second post came up and they offered me that. If you are appointable they would have already been in touch. Recruitment is expensive so if they thought that had someone with potential then they’d have done that rather than reavertise.

dontdisturbmenow · 17/03/2020 12:11

Totally depends on the job. In my line of work, we would definitely not invite you again as because it's not about ticking boxes and answering the right questions, it's about overall knowledge, skills and how one comes across.

If in any doubt that the person might be qualified to do the role but maybe didn't perform as well at interview due to circumstances, we would invite for a second interview.

We wouldn't be impressed at all with someone applying again for the same post weeks later, assuming the 'previous candidates need not apply' was obvious.

However there are roles that is just a case of ticking the right boxes, in which case they might be impressed you worked on the answers and are prepared to try again.
