AIBU to reapply for a job I was turned down for?

I had an interview last week which i didn't get. Had some feedback after and they told me in great detail how I could have answered some of the questions better.
The job is now being advertised again.
Would I be unreasonable to reapply? Nowhere on the advert does it say "previous applicants need not apply".
Wondered if anyone else had been successful on their second attempt?
Really is a great opportunity but I feel very unsure about re-applying

You've nothing at all to lose OP.
Go for it.

No harm in applying, but if I was the recruiter I probably wouldn't invite you in for an interview again.

ConkerGame · 17/03/2020 13:35

Hmm tricky as it’s so close but you could always write a covering letter explaining that you learned a lot from their feedback and would appreciate a second opportunity.

I applied for a job again 6 months after my first interview and got it, so being turned down once definitely isn’t a bar

Thisismytimetoshine · 17/03/2020 14:08

You were in the next batch, Conker, not the current one.

I don’t want to stick the boot in; but explaining in great detail where you could have answered the questions better will have been more to explain why you didn’t make the grade, not a coaching session for next time or they’d have called you back for a second interview themselves.
There’s still nothing to be lost by asking, however.

Personally I wouldn't consider a candidate in these circumstances. IME if the role is readvertised, it's because the candidates who applied the first time weren't suitable. However, PPs are correct that you have nothing to lose by asking.

NotEverythingIsBlackandwhite · 17/03/2020 15:22

If I'd been advertising the role and you re-applied, I would not consider you for interview.

It was very kind of them to tell you in great detail how you could have answered the questions better but that probably shows how poorly you answered.

If they were interested they would have contacted unsuccessful candidates who they liked. I know I've contacted my second choice candidate after my first choice accepted then later rejected a job offer.

Mistystar99 · 17/03/2020 19:11

Depends whether you mind being rejected again!! They have readvertised, if they thought you were a maybe they would have rung you and encouraged you to reapply. I'd look elsewhere and save yourself the whole embarrassment.

BlackCatsRule88 · 17/03/2020 19:18

I would say it depends on what the nature of the feedback was? If it was along the lines of “you seem to have the experience/skills but you didn’t present yourself clearly enough” then maybe reapply, but if it was “you don’t have xyz experience” then I don’t think you should, as surely if you had that experience you’d have mentioned it the first time? And if you only now mention it in the second interview, they’ll know you’ve just made it up to reflect what you now know they are looking for?

IamRhubarbBikini · 17/03/2020 19:32

I’m surprised so many are saying go for it. Unfortunately if you only interviewed last week and were rejected I can’t imagine they’d interview you again so soon I’m afraid. They will be advertising the role again as there were no suitable candidates the first time round.

Definitely take their feedback on-board and keep an eye out for other suitable roles with them in the future but for now I wouldn’t reapply.

GrowingUpIsATrap · 17/03/2020 23:33

Thank you everyone for your advice.

The feedback was around how on some of the questions I didn't go into enough detail to give a clear picture of how my own experience related to different aspects of the role.

I do appreciate everyone's advice and will give them a call to see if its worth reapplying.

Thanks all :)

I think that’s fair enough then, go for it!
