Lose pay or keep Dd off school?

inmyshoos · 16/03/2020 16:43

My youngest (12) has a new cough so self isolating for 7 days as per guidelines.
I have to work for 4 hours tmrw.
Her older sister (14) could stay home and I could go to work. Younger Dd coughing but no fever and not ill as such but she wouldn't be happy home alone.
Or I stay home and have been told I won't be paid.
I was considering taking them out of school anyway but older Dd wants to go!

As a single parent we will struggle with my pay.

Aibu to keep older Dd off so I can work?

Could you leave your 12 year old alone?

Woeisme99 · 16/03/2020 16:49

Sure a 12 year old could be home for 4 hours?

inmyshoos · 16/03/2020 16:50

She won't stay on her own although she is responsible enough and safe enough.

Surely leave her with a phone for four hours

Dishwashersaurous · 16/03/2020 16:51

Tell her that she has to!

inmyshoos · 16/03/2020 16:52

She has a bit of anxiety about being left alone since her father vanished from her life.... But she will happily stay with her sister.

@Dishwashersaurous couldn't do that to her. She won't even sit in car whilst I pay for fuel at the moment. We have had help with this but now is definitely not the time push being home alone.

Depends how much that four hours of pay is worth to you

Frenchw1fe · 16/03/2020 16:59

If you need the pay you have to work. Therefore your older dc will have to stay at home too.
We live in difficult times and unfortunately needs must.

Review the newest info. Whole household isolation if anyone has symptoms - 14 days

BettyIsMyFavouriteSquirrel · 16/03/2020 17:17

These are desperate times so I’d keep your older daughter off.

Pippa12 · 16/03/2020 17:19

I think with new conference if 1 of you is quarantined you all should now?

Northernsoullover · 16/03/2020 17:20

You are all quarantined now Sad

Lightofthephoenix · 16/03/2020 17:20

Agreed, just watched it on the live broadcast.

Onemorehitandillcrumble · 16/03/2020 17:21

has a new cough so self isolating for 7 days as per guidelines

The whole family now has to isolate for 14 days.

AmberleighMouse · 16/03/2020 17:22

Yup sorry, you're all in isolation now for 14 days

RedHelenB · 16/03/2020 17:22

Decision made but very unfair to keep older dd from going to school ordinarily. You're the parent it's your responsibility.

ilovesooty · 16/03/2020 17:23

The new information indicates you should all self isolate.

Willyoujustbequiet · 16/03/2020 17:25

Its 14 days and whole household isolation.

inmyshoos · 16/03/2020 17:28

Are those guidelines for whole of UK? Can't find the info

OP posts:
probablysue · 16/03/2020 17:29

You say she has a cough but no fever/temp so surely you don’t have to all be isolated? This is getting ridiculous. There has to be more symptoms than just a cough to isolate a whole family. This is the time of year that hay fever starts kicking in. Symptoms include bad head, fever and fatigue. If she’s just got a cough then get your oldest to stay home while you work.

AmberleighMouse · 16/03/2020 17:30

probablysue no it's either symptom, not both.

AmberleighMouse · 16/03/2020 17:34

www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-51917562 third sentence here

Healthyandhappy · 16/03/2020 17:41

It's only the one person who is poorly for 7 days the 14 days is old advise
