Lighthearted.....
I've always been a bit of a sniffer - no matter what time of year. Might be a sinus thing, whatever. Particularly when I exercise I need to blow my nose a lot. Other than that I feel fine, fit and healthy.

AIBU to think that if the lady on the treadmill next to me in the gym was that worried about potential corona-spreading she could have gone for any one of the 30 empty treadmills rather than picking the one directly next to me (my pet hate at the best of times but particularly if you are going to get glares every time you blow your nose)?

For what it's worth I used a tissue which I binned directly, wiped down the machine before and after, used the anti bac gel and showed immediately after....

I’ve had an ongoing low-level cough for about 20 years. GP’s best guess is it’s because of mild allergies to things that are always around to some degree, like dust, mould, etc. I can’t tell you the amount of times I’ve alarmist burst trying to suppress it the last few days. If I have to self-isolate because of it, I’ll never leave the house again.

YouTheCat · 15/03/2020 18:18

I have allergic rhinitis. I'm always coughing. I cough into my elbow out of habit anyway. I don't care if I get dodgy looks as trying to suppress a cough just makes it worse.

ALongHardWinter · 15/03/2020 18:25

Yes,I get what I call a 'starchy throat' after eating carbohydrates such as bread, potatoes, rice etc. It just means that for about 20 minutes after eating such things I clear my throat quite a lot and maybe cough a bit for around 20 minutes. I've had it ever since I can remember really,my Dd is the same, and I can remember my late Dmum was too.
I was in a cafe yesterday and had a jacket potato with tuna and sweetcorn. I cleared my throat a couple of times and coughed a bit when I'd finished, and the people on the next table's heads all swivelled round as one to look at me! Made me feel rather embarrassed.

Oldraver · 15/03/2020 18:37

I take medication which has a common side effect of coughing, that'll be fun on the bus this week (and I'll be busing it all week)

Ive also started sneezing as the tree pollen is coming out, though I thought sneezing isnt a sympton

randomsabreuse · 15/03/2020 18:57

Yep. Got the tag end of a cold (3 weeks at least, possibly more because I've had something coldish since September (DC1 in reception...). Also noticed itchy eyes, sinus headache and spotted flowers outside and twigged that hayfever season has arrived before cold season is over. Feel like a leper, and frantically sucking cough sweets and holding in coughs every time I go anywhere!

steff13 · 15/03/2020 19:01

I went to the emergency dentist, and the waiting room was packed, and there were two whole families there, even though in each family one adult was the patient. 🙄 Our entire state is about to shut down and people are acting like it's a family outing. Meanwhile, I was huddled in a corner trying to stifle a cough so I don't get ostracized.

Strugglingtodomybest · 15/03/2020 19:10

and have post-nasal drip, leading to phlegmy coughs.

Yes, me too. It's embarrassing, I've lost count of how many times I've said, it's just a cold.

mynameiscalypso · 15/03/2020 19:12

My hayfever starts in Feb. It's largely controlled by antihistamines but if I forget (like I did today), I'm coughing and sneezing all over the place.

lifeisntgoodritenow · 15/03/2020 19:13

Yep-dust mite allergy, can't take antihistamines as even the non drowsy ones knock me out. Steroid nasal spray helps to some degree but constantly have a stuffy nose.

Ponoka7 · 15/03/2020 19:20

On the plus side people let you in the queue in front of them.

I have my usual February cough. It isn't CV, it isn't a dry cough and I'm in the vulnerable group. I'm sick of being treated like the antichrist.

CatsCatsCats11 · 15/03/2020 19:21

Yes pregnancy rhinitis and asthma 🙄

Jimmers · 15/03/2020 22:06

I’ve taken to saying “asthma & hay fever” automatically after each cough on public transport & in meetings at work Grin

ThisIsNotMyRealName1 · 15/03/2020 22:53

Yes! I was getting my hair done on Friday - coughed once and two heads spun around to see who was coughing. Cough and a sore throat that won't go away, with a touch of hay fever in there as well.

Prawnofthepatriarchy · 15/03/2020 23:07

I've had asthma since I was tiny and now I have COPD as well. I'm always coughing. I get hayfever in April so that'll make matters worse. Going round the supermarket I kept having to reassure people. Just telling them that I have asthma but I'm perfectly well seemed to put them at ease.

But later in a small shop the young lad serving actually backed off when I coughed, with his hand covering his nose and mouth. He was really scared, poor boy.

Meaniebobeanie · 15/03/2020 23:09

Other threads being made about all you coughing and sneezy people 'I can't believe they go out and cough and sneeze in Tesco why aren't they isolating!' WinkThe other day when I looked down and The other day two ladies were glaring at my little boy in disgust. I looked down and he was picking his nose! I quickly said 'no no let's go wash your hands now Shock Grin'

Purpleartichoke · 16/03/2020 00:48

I’m allergic to the cleaning fluid that is getting sprayed everywhere nonstop. Not only does it make leaving the house at this point dangerous, but I’m definitely getting looks.

rocketmen · 16/03/2020 04:52

I always have post-nasal drip that makes me cough. Definitely getting glares.

Fluffybutter · 16/03/2020 07:29

My dd has a habit cough and has done for ages but now I’ve noticed people looking when she does it . Hopefully teachers will remember that it’s just something she does

AtLeastThreeDrinks · 16/03/2020 07:32

Same, sinuses and allergies! I haven’t had many looks but I’m on board with the idea of a badge!

CanIHaveAPenguinPlease · 16/03/2020 07:35

It’s almost hay fever season & one of dc has asthma which means they’ll be coughing continuously!

PhilCornwall1 · 16/03/2020 07:35

I coughed in B&Q yesterday and a woman next to me moved quite a distance away, still trying to look at what now wasn't in front of her. Just made me laugh.

annamie · 16/03/2020 07:40

Why didn’t you just tell her she is free to move to another treadmill?

Don’t be such a mouse, OP.

CigarsofthePharoahs · 16/03/2020 07:41

DH has a permanent dry cough due to some scarring in his bronchii. His fault for neglecting a chest infection, but he can't help the cough.
I have asthma and sometimes cough. We both have allergies. I suppose we're both in 'at risk' groups but I'm finding myself increasingly cynical. I do follow all the advice before I'm told off, my hands are getting chapped from all the extra washing.

drspouse · 16/03/2020 08:05

I have asthma cough variant and DH may also (he's had a cough since October and is being investigated). He says "I've had this for months" and I tell people "don't worry, it's only asthma".

EL8888 · 16/03/2020 08:08

Yep. I’m allergic to lots of things, have asthma and lm prone to getting colds. This is just normal for me Confused
