Lighthearted.....
I've always been a bit of a sniffer - no matter what time of year. Might be a sinus thing, whatever. Particularly when I exercise I need to blow my nose a lot. Other than that I feel fine, fit and healthy.

AIBU to think that if the lady on the treadmill next to me in the gym was that worried about potential corona-spreading she could have gone for any one of the 30 empty treadmills rather than picking the one directly next to me (my pet hate at the best of times but particularly if you are going to get glares every time you blow your nose)?

For what it's worth I used a tissue which I binned directly, wiped down the machine before and after, used the anti bac gel and showed immediately after....

DH is an ex smoker with a constant cough, which gets worse as soon as the weather is damp. I imagine he's getting some looks but he's oblivious

DettolsYourFriend · 15/03/2020 16:39

Yeah my dh has terrible allergies to pets & dust and is basically just one constant snivel. I think ima make him a badge if only people would get close enough to read it

dudsville · 15/03/2020 16:40

I try so hard not to react to coughers and sniffers, but I do also flinch normally. I've sneezed in public a couple of times and felt embarrassed and was apologetic as I know people are frightened. It's a weird weird time.

Tistheseason17 · 15/03/2020 17:15

What about the coughing? How frequent? How long have you had it for?

QuestionableMouse · 15/03/2020 17:20

I have the tail end of a cold and I'm a snotty mess with a bit of a cough. I got moaned at yesterday in Tesco for coughing (into a tissue). Not fun.

itwasalovelydreamwhileitlasted · 15/03/2020 17:29

Yup - I sneezed on the tube last week due to someone's dodgy aftershave and nearly cleared the carriage!

fairynick · 15/03/2020 17:31

My friend is Chinese and every time she clears her throat in public the crowds part like the Red Sea

AlliKaneErikson · 15/03/2020 17:35

My daughter has Tourette’s and makes a coughing sound as one of her tics. We are getting some interesting looks from people!

BogRollBOGOF · 15/03/2020 17:37

DS has a history of asthmatic coughing rather than wheezing. He has largely grown out of it, but it can still be occasionally triggered by certain weather and pollen. Just to tease me, he had an episode last night over about half an hour. Then all clear through the night and to mid-afternoon, then another flurry over half an hour and all quiet again. It's certainly fitting his modus operandi rather than the CV description of a persistant cough and is otherwise bright and perky.

I've got the hayfever nasal drip and sniffles which will persist until July or August. Fantastic timing Grin

Newcatmum · 15/03/2020 17:40

I hate sniffers and coughers at the best of times anyway so often glareGrin. I don't actually but I always feel annoyed. I sneezed in Aldi yesterday thankfully no one looked at me I tried to old it in but couldn't.

Pineappletree33 · 15/03/2020 17:42

I’m desperately trying to hold coughs in when out in public. Everyone in our house hold has had a cold, I’m coming to the end and have had a cough for 3 weeks.

Bunnyfuller · 15/03/2020 17:44

I am ace at sneezing and had a fit of them earlier in Asda. Luckily the crisp aisle wasn’t too jammed as I scrabbled in my bag for a tissue.

Maybe I was the reason the crisp aisle wasn’t jammed

Kubo · 15/03/2020 17:45

Yep, I’m always a bit sniffly. I normally only take antihistamines when it gets bad, but I’ve been taking them daily for a few days now because I’m self-conscious about blowing my nose etc.

myself2020 · 15/03/2020 17:48

I‘ve had a mild cough for the last 43 years.... getting interesting looks now

EggysMom · 15/03/2020 17:48

Yes, I struggle to shake off a cold at the best of times; all of us in the house are coming out of colds and have post-nasal drip, leading to phlegmy coughs.

Stinkycatbreath · 15/03/2020 17:50

I always have a cough all year and have rhinitis and and sinusitis. I would never leave the house if I wasn't able to blow my nose in public so I have grown impervious to stares nor do I really care. I really can't help it.

Babdoc · 15/03/2020 17:52

I noticed at church this morning, that when we wanted to cough or clear our throat before singing each hymn, everyone carefully did so into their elbow, not hand, then looked round sheepishly, hoping others didn’t think they were infectious!
We were also as instructed, all sitting a metre apart in the pews.
This virus is certainly changing behaviour.

BlackeyedSusan · 15/03/2020 17:53

Every winter for the past 30 winters....

Get a cold sometime in November, never recover fully until April, just in time for hayfever to hit. Sinussy post nasal catch in throat...

collywobblescar · 15/03/2020 17:53

My one year old coughed in a shop earlier and I thought a man was going to escort us out. He's one, he is always snotty and always has a cougo

steff13 · 15/03/2020 17:54

I have allergies and sinus issues. My throat is all snotty because it always is this time of year. But I'm afraid to cough in public.

autumnmum · 15/03/2020 17:55

I've got a cold (definately not Corona no temp and no cough) but I'm going to work from home tomorrow because I am already anticipating the panic my snotty face is gong to cause tomorrow in the office.

Butchyrestingface · 15/03/2020 17:58

I have chronic cough variant asthma. Have been getting the evil eye when out in public over the last few days.

Was in the university library today (ghost town) and somebody went to sit at a table in my general vicinity - far too close for my anti-social ass. So I let out a few wee pitiful, asthmatic coughs and bingo! off she fucked.

Sh05 · 15/03/2020 18:08

Yes I don't get a cough often but in a warm stuffy room my throat starts tickling and I can't help coughing. On Friday gave a lift to my sis in law to doctors, she wanted me to come in with her but I had to step out when I felt the tickle coming on

SerenDippitty · 15/03/2020 18:11

DH was sneezing in Tesco this morning because it was effing freezing in there. Getting lots of dodgy looks.

Dramalady52 · 15/03/2020 18:15

I have a constant snotty, anything sets it off, hot food, spicy food, walking past the chilled aisle in a supermarket, I have to blow my nose! Also, ex-smoker so permanent slight cough. Not been glared at yet, but did clear the laundry aisle at tesco when the smells made me sneeze 😎
