To worry that I keep forgetting how old I am?

Sounds very silly and most of the time I brush it off as quirky but today I genuinely had to calculate my age based on my year of birth to figure out how old I’ll be next week. I’ll be 33. I will most likely forget again by tomorrow, that’s what always happens. I have twin 18mo babies and yes things can get very stressful. I read a lot of articles like “mums of twins will definitely relate to THIS” but to be honest I’ve never heard of other parents in general forgetting their age. It’s such a personal thing I see it as being like forgetting your hair colour. AIBU to worry? Is it a sign of something else? Or is this extremely normal and just not talked about a lot? Confused

Wait until you have grandchildren. They know exactly how old you are and have no filter so everyone in the vicinity knows too

Grin my DC used to announce my age really loudly when I was buying beer (for DH).
They do the "Are you over 21" and my son would shout "Yes , you're 42 aren't you Mum"

I'm nearly 54 , feel every bloody day of it and don't get ID'd now Sad

I forget all the time, but conviently I had a baby very close to my birthday so I just think what, age is he and add 30 years! My husband forgets all the time and has rang me in the past to ask me what age he is (we are the same age), he was only in his mid to late 20's at this point.

I have my moments as well. Sometimes I think I’m a year younger or older than I am, takes me a moment to work it out!

Firsttimelottie · 15/03/2020 20:19

DP is 34 and is the same. Has been since I met him when he was 25!

TestingTestingWonTooFree · 15/03/2020 20:21

I used to take the piss out of DH for this but now it’s happened to me. No twins involved.

Worse thing is, i had to work out BOTH my DSs ages the other day too! (they are both over 21 mind) Grin

I try to forget my age but my lovely dcs ha e a huge obsession with telling random people my age 😭

AdoptedBumpkin · 15/03/2020 20:40

Probably not something to worry about. I rarely forget my age but I have friends who do (not through vanity).

Ilovetea09 · 15/03/2020 21:07

As soon as I reached 30 I also started to forget my age. My husband never knows how old he is either lol

GlitteryUnicornSparkles · 15/03/2020 21:56

A couple of years ago I was adamant that for my upcoming birthday I was going to be a year younger than what I actually was going to be and what my Mum said I was, I called her a senile old cow (lovingly) and said I can’t believe she’d forget my age! I ended up googling it (my maths is shit), she was right!!

Therefore you are not unreasonable to forget.

I've been forgetting my age since I was in my 30s. I remember when it's a zero or when it ends in a 1 (because I know the previous year was a zero birthday). After that I have to stop and work it out.

I think children and teenagers are so aware of their age because getting to the next number is exciting and a big deal. As an adult, a few years here or there don't really make much difference. It's not something in the forefront of our minds so it's easy to forget.

SpoonBlender · 15/03/2020 23:45

Yeah, started having to work it out in my 30s rather than just knowing.

I'm currently befuddled even more, I had a "set up your account" thing recently which asked me for my age at my next birthday, and now that age+1 is stuck in my head. It's my birthday in a couple of months so perhaps I'll resync...

BlackForestCake · 16/03/2020 00:02

I don't know how tall I am, how much I weigh and I have to think for a minute about how old I am. Why should I care?

Nonameslob · 16/03/2020 02:00

This is quite a relief hearing lots forget their age. It started happening for me after 45 and I used to get really upset thinking I was getting dementia. I just can't remember and always have to calculate it. I also can never remember what the date is, as in today's date, I tell myself it over and over but it just doesn't stick.

My mid thirties were a bit hazy lost in the fog of raising young children and working. 40 is getting closer and a bit more defined now for a few years.

20s are full of phases/ stages that define life, uni, new jobs, relationships, travel, marriage, children. 30s are more settled which means less definition from one year to the next.

Darbs76 · 16/03/2020 09:41

I always forget how old I am until a big number like 30/40. It’s definitely normal
