To worry that I keep forgetting how old I am?

Sounds very silly and most of the time I brush it off as quirky but today I genuinely had to calculate my age based on my year of birth to figure out how old I’ll be next week. I’ll be 33. I will most likely forget again by tomorrow, that’s what always happens. I have twin 18mo babies and yes things can get very stressful. I read a lot of articles like “mums of twins will definitely relate to THIS” but to be honest I’ve never heard of other parents in general forgetting their age. It’s such a personal thing I see it as being like forgetting your hair colour. AIBU to worry? Is it a sign of something else? Or is this extremely normal and just not talked about a lot? Confused

What I'm getting at the moment is what month it is. But not in a "is it February or March?" Kind it way. As in - is it September? Is it December? Where the fuck are we?

I have to actually stop still and think hard for a few seconds to figure out where we even are on the calendar.

I have a 14 month old who hates sleep.

userabcname · 15/03/2020 11:10

I've not remembered my age since I was about 22. I often have to work it out in my head.

Katjolo · 15/03/2020 11:11

I always forget. Past 30 and since having a baby, i keep forgetting lol

CoronaToner · 15/03/2020 11:12

Completely normal! I'm 41 I think! But very often think I'm 42 (actually, maybe I am!! I'm one or the other! I know I'm not 43 yet and I'm not 40!) Wine

dottiedodah · 15/03/2020 11:13

If I was still in my 30s I wouldnt worry about a few years here and there TBH. Wait until you get to 40! Seriously age is just a number really .You are as old as you feel IMO .

chipsandgin · 15/03/2020 11:15

I’m in my forties & I often have to work out out, I spent months saying I was 48 (at the time) only to find out I’m actually 48 later this year, bonus!

Murraygoldberg · 15/03/2020 11:16

Perfectly natural, I remain when I was a child noticing that adults often were unsure what age they were and being puzzled, not now. After about 25/30 I think age becomes less meaningful for most.

BertiesLanding · 15/03/2020 11:23

I forget all the time. I have also forgotten it's my birthday.

lurker69 · 15/03/2020 11:26

I told someone I was 28 the other day... im 35!! it often takes maths to remember how old I am but tbf I don't need to remember very often so...

LaPoesieEstDansLaRue · 15/03/2020 11:27

Since turning 40 it always takes me 30 seconds or so to remember or work out how old I am. Difficult to remember off top of my head.

Reginabambina · 15/03/2020 11:28

I don’t keep track of my age. I often get confused and have to do a quick calculation.

Sennedd · 15/03/2020 11:33

Wait until you have grandchildren. They know exactly how old you are and have no filter so everyone in the vicinity knows too!

Itsnotalwaysme · 15/03/2020 11:34

I do this and I'm 29

ChilliesAndSpice · 15/03/2020 11:38

I was thinking exactly this yesterday, I couldn’t remember if I was 41 or 42! Glad to hear it’s normal.

Spidey66 · 15/03/2020 12:35

I woke up last birthday convinced I was 54 and only 6 years to go before I can take early retirement. I was well disappointed when I realised I was only 53.

When someone asks my age I often have to think about it before I answer!

TheYellowOfTheEgg · 15/03/2020 12:40

In my volunteering role my first question to people is how old they are. Quite a lot of people have to think about it before answering. It's not that unusual.

UsernameUnknownn · 15/03/2020 12:48

I always get my age wrong. Obviously I go for the younger age! Grin

Scout2016 · 15/03/2020 19:36

Another person who often has to think and has before actually used an online calculator thing to check. Kept doubting myself. It worked it out to the minute or something, I just wanted the year Blush Doesn't help that 2020 still sounds futuristic to me. Where are our hover boards!

Lizadork · 15/03/2020 19:59

I forget my age all the time and with a baby I often woke up struggling to remember if I had a boy or girl. Even once forgot where baby was and got into a right panic, was with grandparents at their house as planned.

BertieBotts · 15/03/2020 20:01

I think this just happens to everyone after about 25/30. It used to feel very important before then how old I was. Now I am just generally adult. The exact number doesn't affect anything at all. So I forget quote frequently.

Talcott2007 · 15/03/2020 20:03

God I regularly have to revert to the age calculator thingy to remind myself. I always doubt myself and get it wrong. My default age is for some random reason is 28.... I however am actually 33.

Jumpingforgin · 15/03/2020 20:04

I lost track of my age pre kids, so I can't even blame them! Must have been mid twenties I struggled to remember, and now at 32? 33? Somewhere around there, I'll regularly have to work it out when someone asks me, and then I'll forget in again by the next day. Yes everyone I know thinks it's hilarious and doesn't understand how I can forget, but I guess it's just not something I think about regularly enough to remember! You aren't alone op

Yabadee · 15/03/2020 20:05

It must start about age 30. I’ll also be 33 in a few weeks and whenever anyone asks I need to count too.

The brain fog I get from having Crohn’s is terrible though. When I worked full time, I regularly had to stop the car on the way home from work, to check my phone and find out what day it was so I knew whether to pick DD up at nursery or my mums.

Luckily I now work part time and from home, so every instruction I get is via email. DP has learned when he asks me to do something for our business he HAS to text me, even if he has told me face to face or on the phone already, because I’ll forget. I have umpteen reminders about things on my phone, a giant calendar in the kitchen etc still forgot parents info might at DDs school a few weeks ago 😖

Nightmare.

ChanklyBore · 15/03/2020 20:05

I forget too. The good news is that I often overestimate and then feel like I’ve earned back a bonus year or two all at once when I work it out properly!

raspberryk · 15/03/2020 20:08

I'm the same age as op and regularly forget. Normal.
