Stood by closed checkout 1 about to put join queue to checkout 2.

Checkout one opens and 2 people in queue 2 stay put, I then start putting my goods on checkout 1 conveyer belt. Two people from queue 2 then transfer their goods from conveyer belt 2 to conveyer belt one, in the gap ahead of my goods. I was taken aback but said nothing, women behind me rolls her eyes at me.

Women transferring goods then says to me quite irritated “can you move your things back because I can’t fit all my stuff on” I say “that’s because I put my things on before you did” she then gets all angry and says “I was actually ahead of you in the other queue and you pushed in, but if it means that much to you, you can go in front of me if you like?” I said as I reached for shopping bags “it doesn’t, that’s why I didn’t say anything?” she continues “well it obviously does as you are saying something now!” Which I ignored.

Did I push in as I would usually let queuing baskets ahead of me if a new till opened Grin

Yep, when a new till opens it's survival of the fittest!

KatherineJaneway · 14/03/2020 11:00

In my experience, if a till opens it's every man or woman for themselves!

LittleTopic · 14/03/2020 11:00

On a similar point it really winds me up when people start loading their stuff on behind you before you’ve finished! Had this earlier this week, where I had to ask the woman behind me to move her stuff off as I still had half a trolley to get on.

Her response: “I don’t know why you have so much stuff.” HmmConfused

Snaketime · 14/03/2020 11:06

New till, new queue. You were first in the queue for that till therefore she should have either stayed where she was or gone to the back of the new queue.

iheartislesofwight · 14/03/2020 11:09

i bloody love lidl and the till entitled cfs, good for you op standing your ground, i'm a firm stand up for myself too and for others if they are being bullied.

JoMumsnet · 14/03/2020 11:11

@MadameBee

I have requested title change ....

We've sorted this now. Sorry for the delay!

MadameBee · 14/03/2020 11:22

It was quite funny as I said my piece and then ignored her as she seemed like she was up for a full on row 🤣🤣

iheartislesofwight · 14/03/2020 11:35

way to go op i like the smile and ignore method too. these cfers just make themselves look like total idiots.

izzywizzygood · 14/03/2020 11:37

Oh god, my innate politeness would have meant I offered the people in front of me at checkout 2 the option of moving to checkout 1 ahead of me. It doesn't hurt to be nice does it?

Isthistrueor · 14/03/2020 11:38

You got there first, she pushed in.

Doingtheboxerbeat · 14/03/2020 11:40

I wouldn't have commented but I always think it's good manners to let the person in front of me with the same amount of items go ahead of me in a newly opened checkout. I think I'm in the minority though because no fucker has ever done it for me.

MadameBee · 14/03/2020 11:42

I did gesture to the people with goods in baskets who politely declined but the people actually on the conveyer belt were committed to checkout 2 in my opinion.

Surprised by these responses. Drives me mad when people at the back of the queue just walk to the front of a new till when it opens, it’s complete pushing in. I always offer those in front of me the chance to go ahead and would expect the same back. How is it not pushing in?

YoTheGinPussyOfStMawesOnThigh · 14/03/2020 11:42

I had similar to this in an Aldi late last year. I arrived at the checkouts just as another was being opened so went straight over to it and a woman started bellyaching how I had pushed in. In the time it took her to say her piece and have a tantrum I had been served and was ready to go. I laughed and walked off.

Kraejka · 14/03/2020 11:45

When a new checkout opens it's a free for all. Tough shit if someone's waiting at another checkout and someone further back in the queue nabs the new checkout first place slot. It happens to us all.

She shouldn't have pushed in front of you.

I also don't like how people start loading stuff onto the conveyor when you're still emptying your own trolley and leaving you with no space.
I've started using my trolley to block the very start of the conveyor until I've finished unpacking. I've been shouted a before by a woman who wanted to start unloading her things but I wasn't finished and there were people in front of me still waiting anyway so it's not like she or I were under time pressure.
I really don't get the point of starting to unload your things before the person in front has finished as you'll just cause chaos if they have lots of things. If they don't have much it's ok

DontCallMeShitley · 14/03/2020 11:47

@Hingeandbracket

*As far as I know
Woman=1 person
Women= more than one

I was wondering if it's been changed and I didn't know as "women" for one person seems to have cropped up a lot on here lately and I am often out of date.*

It seems to be more common these days. I only ever knew one person that said it, and that was someone from another country who is now almost 70 years old. See a lot of it now, assumed it was the same reason but maybe not.

1066vegan · 14/03/2020 11:48

Drives me mad when people at the back of the queue just walk to the front of a new till when it opens, it’s complete pushing in.

I just don't get that. If you join an existing queue at an open till and go in front of other people who are already queuing rather than joining the back of the queue, then you are pushing in.

New till = new queue.

It's impossible to push in front of people if there are no people already waiting at the till.

OP, you are most definitely NBU

Fruitsaladjelly · 14/03/2020 11:49

Personally I always gesture to those ahead of me in a queue when a new check out opens and if they don’t switch lines I’ll take first spot in the new queue. It just feels good manners when others have been waiting longer.

AnnaMagnani · 14/03/2020 11:54

You got their first, them's the rules for a new checkout in Lidl.

But WTF did you leave a gap?

If I had been behind you I would have given you a hard stare and moved my trolley up as close as physically possible.

BlackCatSleeping · 14/03/2020 11:56

At my local supermarket, when they open a new till, they always ask the person at the No. 2 position in the next till if they'd like to move over. After that, it's a bit of a free-for-all.

Chewbecca · 14/03/2020 11:56

Oh, I am obviously in the minority here. I think when a new checkout opens, you let people in the existing queue load first, if they want to move over.
In my local store (Waitrose), the staff opening the new till always indicate to the existing queuers and invite them to start loading.

aquashiv · 14/03/2020 11:57

It's all very chaotic. Wouldn't have this in Waitrose..

Ffsseriously · 14/03/2020 12:01

When i worked as a till controller i used to infuriate some customers was loved by others. When opening up a new till I made sure the people who had been waiting longest went to the front of new queue.

squirrelsbizaar · 14/03/2020 12:07

I think its good manners to let the person in front of you (from original queue) ahead when a new till opens, but in reality it turns into a first to the finish line scenario.

I like good manners, so I am impressed when people observe this rule.
Aldi and Lidl do have strange checkout rules - I don't mind people with a few items getting ahead, as long as they acknowledge me and ask, but I still feel aggrieved (several years later Smile) by a cheeky cow that breezed in front of me when I was loading my stuff, without so much as a bye or leave to pay for her stuff. Its making me feel a bit mad just thinking about that one.
