AIBU to cancel kids party coronavirus

Hi
AIBU to cancel my daughters party which will be next weekend because of the current situation. I’m on the fence. Schools are still open, plenty of mixing there but maybe they won’t be in a week...

I am debating similar for a party this weekend!!

scrivette · 13/03/2020 19:00

If the schools are still open I think I would go ahead with it.

Justjoinedforthis · 13/03/2020 19:01

Yes we are going to local one tomorrow, the school is open so I don’t see how it’ll make too much difference.

DamnYouAutoCarrot · 13/03/2020 19:03

I'd cancel. Its just not worth the risk for a kids party.

RevealTheHiddenBeach · 13/03/2020 19:07

If the kids spend all day in school together a party will make no difference. Keep it unless schools close.

... unless it's a gathering of over 100?!

hurryupautumn · 13/03/2020 19:08

I'd continue with the party. If the kids are all in school together that a few more hours at the weekend will make no difference.

SoloMummy · 13/03/2020 19:11

It's the soft play type parties I'd be especially concerned about. 🙄

Ilovecandlez · 13/03/2020 19:12

Yea it is similar to soft play. I am half anticipating schools closing next week so I’d rather jump before I’m pushed in a way.

DD is having her party tomorrow but there's only 7 of them including her, it's the group she hangs around with at school all the time so I think it'll hopefully be ok.....

Mummyoflittledragon · 13/03/2020 19:37

Soft play - hell yes! They’re an overgrown Petri dish.

RippleEffects · 13/03/2020 19:39

If the powers that be stop it then you can handle the fall out, but if not, some routine and normality may well be a good thing. Birthdays are so special for our DC they're all mixing at school so is this really any worse?

PatchworkElmer · 13/03/2020 19:39

I would cancel if it’s a big group.

CigarsofthePharoahs · 13/03/2020 19:44

Soft play? Hmmm, maybe.
My son is having a party in a couple of weeks. It's not soft play and all the invitees are school friends he spends a lot of time with anyway, so we're going ahead. I'll probably insist on hand washing on the way in though.

2Rebecca · 13/03/2020 20:04

I think a kids' party is fine as the schools are open and they are mixing anyway and kids are only mildly affected by the virus. Don't invite older relatives with health problems and be prepared for some people to decide not to come.

2Rebecca · 13/03/2020 20:04

Agree I wouldn't do soft play, I'd do a few children round the house

Crunchymum · 13/03/2020 20:17

We have two softplay parties coming up, the one this weekend (tomorrow) was cancelled today.

EmeraldShamrock · 13/03/2020 20:26

I had DS party booked for the 20th the hall cancelled. I'd say by next week the UK should be shut down too. I just hope it is not to late.

TheFuzzyStar · 13/03/2020 20:26

I think I’d just wait and see what happens in the next week. My son is going to one on Sunday. If schools close then I presume soft play centres will have to as well.

Aroundtheworldin80moves · 13/03/2020 20:32

DDs party in two weeks, 12 kids invited, in a hall with us running activities.

If schools close next week, I'll postpone. If not, I'll likely go ahead, as they will be mixing at school anyway. I'll make the final decision a few days before.

I wouldn't take them to Softplay, inflatables, trampolinepark etc right now. Probably not cinema either.

Skysblue · 13/03/2020 20:33

If it’s a class party then they all mix anyway so no point cancelling. If it’s a party for children from loads of different schools then maybe consider cancelling into a couple of smaller events.

Personally I woukd go agead but not do food except individual cupcakes (so eg not sticky fingers going into shared crisp bowls).

LuckyLickitung · 13/03/2020 21:17

You never know, the cure might be lying undisturbed, festering away at the bottom of the ball pit Grin

Smurfy23 · 13/03/2020 21:58

I would check with the softplay what procedures they have in place to help stop it being spread?

If you were happy with that id keep it going. Schools may shut but they also may well not and the kids are likley to be around eachother anyway.

Gemma2019 · 13/03/2020 22:00

I would cancel now as I reckon you'll have loads of last minute no shows.

Muddlingalongalone · 13/03/2020 22:04

Dd1's trampoline party is next Saturday & I'm torn on what to do. Hoping in some way that Gov't make the decision for me.
Currently planning a contingency pyjama party at home and wondering how to fit 10 8/9 year olds in my lounge....

Minimamame · 13/03/2020 22:04

My son's party is booked for 29th March. I’ll be cancelling it but we’re in Ireland so I doubt anyone would come anyway!
