when people say ‘not this again’ or ‘theres lots of threads on this already!’

This drives me nuts, when someone starts a thread and someone has to do an ‘eyeroll’ and declare ‘THIS POST HAS ALREADY BEEN DONE!!’
Or ‘not this again!’

If you’re one of these people, are you aware that
1- new people join mums net every day, therefor aren’t aware of previous posts?
2- some people don’t spend huge amounts of time on mumsnet will not know the threads off by heart?

OP posts:
CuriousaboutSamphire · 13/03/2020 07:53

I suspect it's because there is a pretty good seacrh function.

Or the posts are regular spam types (like the Why is MN so Transphobic ones)

Or those posters live on MN and get bored easily!

Absolutepowercorrupts · 13/03/2020 07:55

Don't bother opening the thread then, just scroll on

LuckyAmy1986 · 13/03/2020 07:56

So what if there’s a search function though? It might be good for certain things but for others the OP would want up to date opinions on others surely.

Of course there are certain ones which you know have just been put out there to stir up... feelings!

cologne4711 · 13/03/2020 07:56

I bite my tongue most of the time but did get a bit frustrated yesterday when there was yet another thread about closing schools. There are so many threads on it, just look! Go to the coronavirus topic and scroll down - or just use the search. Or google "school closures mumsnet coronavirus" and see what comes up!

I know a lot of people don't use computers and are using their phones, but that doesn't mean you can't search.

Stampy84 · 13/03/2020 07:56

Are you talking about me or the people complaining about repeated Thread @Absolutepowercorrupts

OP posts:
cologne4711 · 13/03/2020 07:57

Don't bother opening the thread then, just scroll on

It's true, this is what I usually say so I know I am being hypocritical Grin

Stampy84 · 13/03/2020 07:57

I’ve just tried to use the search button on my phone (I don’t have the app) and the topic I gave took me back to threads from 2016

OP posts:
NailsNeedDoing · 13/03/2020 07:57

I agree with you OP. Sometimes posters miss a thread, sometimes people don’t know they’re interested in a thread until they see it so wouldn’t know to search.

It’s only an internet chat room, does it really matter if there are a few repetitions?

supercee · 13/03/2020 08:03

The search function on the ap doesn't allow you to sort into date (unless I am missing something) so brings up posts from 2016 and the like that you have to wade through.

TotesGodsWill · 13/03/2020 08:03

It’s usually when there’s half a dozen still very active threads on the same topic. If the OP was as concerned as they usually claim then surely it’s reasonable to expect they would’ve at least scanned the first page of thread titles?

Hmmmm88 · 13/03/2020 08:09

Me too because the poster may not of seen the previous similar thread. Not everyone comes on MN everyday.

Surely they can scroll past a thread without opening it or if they do open it and see it's similar just move on. No need for the shitty unnecessary comments

Jespers · 13/03/2020 08:11

Another one for ‘just scroll on then’... some of us don’t spend all day on MN and aren’t aware that something’s been done to death, so do t read it! What odds is it to you? Hate when people make sh@tty comments... it’s really intimidating sometimes

CuriousaboutSamphire · 13/03/2020 08:17

So what if there’s a search function though? Din't ask me! I'm not one of the "Not again!" posters. I was just offering possibilities.

I scroll past if it is a topic I have read before! Seems to work quite well...

Fluffybutter · 13/03/2020 08:23

I have posted this because sometimes it’s the exact same question as a thread a day or two before . I’m not talking a week or something, usually just 24/48 hours and the original thread is still active and near the top of the list . That’s just lazy

LuckyAmy1986 · 13/03/2020 08:44

@CuriousaboutSamphire no sorry I didn’t mean it like that, just if someone was using that as a reason say “not again” etc! Was more of a general wondering!

LuckyAmy1986 · 13/03/2020 08:45

Yes I also don’t open a thread if I’m not interested or if I’m
Bored of the topic.

ApplesinmyPocket · 13/03/2020 08:45

I find it quite annoying also, especially given that on Mumsnet people are ticked off by other posters all the time for 'posting on zombie threads' - which I have seen happen when the thread is only weeks old.

Of course people are going to be asking a question that has been asked before at some point - sometimes regularly, if it's the sort of thing which people ARE going to wonder about at some point in their lives.

Just answer the question, or join in the discussion, or don't.

LolaSmiles · 13/03/2020 08:52

If it's another poster posting about a topic that's in the news then saying 'this again' seems a bit rude.

If it's one poster who posts multiple threads about the same thing, each time clearly seeking different answers then I'm quite grateful for posters who say 'not this again' because it's a useful sign not to waste time trying to give advice because clearly the poster hasn't listened or as been argumentative in multiple previous threads.

CuriousaboutSamphire · 13/03/2020 08:52

@LuckyAmy1986 don't worry about it. Smile

Apples THAT I am guilty of. I post a certain song on zombie threads. But they have to be at last a year old (8 years is the record for me, so far).

cologne4711 · 13/03/2020 08:57

The search function on the ap doesn't allow you to sort into date (unless I am missing something) so brings up posts from 2016 and the like that you have to wade through

you're actually better off searching via google like I suggested above and you can filter by date.

Letsallscreamatthesistene · 13/03/2020 09:00

This doesnt really get my goat, but what does annoy me is when the same poster starts numerous threads about the same topic, week after week.

There was one recently who started a 4th thread about a specific problem about a car seat, in the space of maybe 3 months. Annoying.

LolaSmiles · 13/03/2020 09:09

There was one recently who started a 4th thread about a specific problem about a car seat, in the space of maybe 3 months.
We are thinking of the same thing there.
Same situation, same thread, same attitude.
The most recent one was zapped as I think lots of us reported it.

BodiesMakeForGoodFertiliser · 13/03/2020 09:11

It’s usually when there’s half a dozen still very active threads on the same topic. If the OP was as concerned as they usually claim then surely it’s reasonable to expect they would’ve at least scanned the first page of thread titles?

This!

And also the ever so annoying "Why are there men/non parents on Mumsnet? It's called MUMsnet"🤦

People should also post in right sections.

supercee · 13/03/2020 09:15

I just tried it and couldn't filter by date. It's a faff to come out of the app to then do a google search. Not a massive faff granted but it would be better if the Mumsnet search function had a date sorter.

AuntieStella · 13/03/2020 10:10

If there's a couple of threads in 'Active' that are attracting lots of comments, then it is rather irrritating when someone starts another identical one. Because it just seems so egotistical to ignore the existing chat

But if at a greater spacing, then it's fine and it's what MN does.
