Neighbours door belll rings mine

Hiya,

Basically, my upstairs neighbours doorbell rings mine, every time someone presses it.

My one, only oy rings my door bell and not theirs. Ive asked months ago if they could change it due to our landlord not wanting to pah for it. I was pregnant at the time and had things to buy from my wages other than a new doorbell for them.

I now have a 3 month old, no one EVER comes to my doorbell, but at least 3 times a day it rings for them!

It rang today, i went out and she had the nerve to say 'why are you here? Surely you know by now rhe door bell isnt for you!'

I had gotten up with my baby sleeping on me thinking it may be for me as i was in bed with her still.

Ive tried asking her nicely to please get a new one but now im at the end of my tether after the reaction i got today! Surely, if mine doesnt ring theirs and isnt at fault and theirs is at fault, common curtsey/sense would mean they should get one?

They moved in before us thafs her argument and the property was vacant for a while before that.

I asked nonths ago and if that was me id of changed it absolutely no problem for them! I let her little girl in sometimes when shes forgot her key and im always very polite.

Am i being unreasonable to want some peace and not pay for a doorbell which isnt at fault on my end??

Kuponot - How do they work then? Ive never lived in a multiple property property without intercom before and its never happened so im totally clueless to them!

It doesnt matter how short or long tue doorbell being pressed for it still rings it.

Oh yes, im locked into the tenancu til July anyway, when, they are infact moving out as well. Had a lot more issues with her than just this, just wondered if i was being the rsehole here which it seems i must be.

It's your doorbell that's the problem, as it shouldn't accept the radiowaves from their button.

Delbelleber · 12/03/2020 12:14

I think you need to speak to the landlord again. If her bell is ringing in your house it's not her fault it's been wired wrong and it's not your fault. The landlord needs to get his insurance company to look in to it and they will investigate and decide who pays or makes an insurance claim.

shanchanx · 12/03/2020 12:15

Kuponot - they are alreaey infact battery powered ones

OP posts:
BlackCatSleeping · 12/03/2020 12:17

What brand and make of doorbell do you have? Do you know? Or can you post a photo of it?

shanchanx · 12/03/2020 12:17

Delbelleber - they arent wired up via property, they are battery powered ones, synced to a box which then transmits the sound out from the box in the property.

So like mine has linked up to both initally and hers is only linked uo to hers. Landlord point blank refused due to my doorbell not ringing theirs, he said if ours rang hers they would change it but it doesnt. I even asked if she could aak her landlord to change it as they arw both privately rented and shebsaid she didnt buy it so its not her problem and i should just ignore my doorbell

Nickname - im scared if i buy another itll do the same? Hers doesnt do it, so you are correct its probably mine at fault but the landlord looked into it and said hers is at fault due to it. Its battery powered and mine has a separate box which i have changed the frequency on and its still dojng it

OP posts:
TheTrollFairy · 12/03/2020 12:20

If they are just battery powered ones can’t you re-sync it? I’m sure with our new one I put the battery in the receiver then had to press the bell until it rang my receiver.

Does your receiver ring when someone presses your bell?

shanchanx · 12/03/2020 12:22

Thetrollfairy - ive done so, ive resynced it, changed the frequency and mine only rings my receiver. I press ky doorbell and it happily rings mine and only mine. Whereas if you press theirs it will ring both at the same time, different makes of doorbell and everything

You need to insist that your landlord fixes it.

It's your doorbell that's the problem, as it shouldn't accept the radiowaves from their button.

This. I appreciate you can't afford to fix it, but you need to pressure your landlord to do so... it's unreasonable to expect your neighbour to fix it when your doorbell shouldn't be responding to her button, and perhaps she can't afford to either. She hasn't helped herself or you by being rude, but the only way to fix this will be to either disconnect your doorbell and get people to knock, design a ringing pattern so that you know whether it's for you like a different poster said, or get a new doorbell somehow. Ideally from your landlord.

SchadenfreudePersonified · 12/03/2020 12:31

Go out at night, snip their doorbell wire, deny everything

This.

If only out of spite, I would do this.

BlackCatSleeping · 12/03/2020 12:32

You probably did already, but did you try this?

Interference from another door chime operating nearby (for example, receiver
sounds for no reason): remove the batteries from the receiver and rest for 30
seconds. This will erase the memory. Insert the batteries and the bell push and
receiver are ready for the new code registration

CornflakeBreath · 12/03/2020 12:40

Your problem is with your landlord, not your neighbour.

PeterPanGoesWrong · 12/03/2020 12:43

if someone approached me sahing my doorbell rung theirs id of changed it absolutely no problem
So you’re happy to change your doorbell if it upsets other people but won’t change your own bell when it’s upsetting your life? Okaaaay, makes sense.
Just change the bloody bell! Or disconnect yours entirely. You say nobody visits you anyway, disconnect your bell.

SoupDragon · 12/03/2020 12:44

but you could of asked a bit mroe information before stating that rather bluntly unhelpful answer.

Seriously?? It was a valid suggestion based on the information given!

I give up. So sorry for offering a free and simple suggestion.

shanchanx · 12/03/2020 12:45

@ShellsAndSunrises - To be honest, ive never lived in a property with a door bwll system like this, previously a house and prior to that we had intercom so i was gojng on what our landlord said ans what ive read online regarding it. So i did think it wasnt ours at fault due to what was said so i was not aware of it being my issue.

@BlackCatSleeping - i shall give this a retry now and follow those steps see if that works, thank you for that info! I think i dis something similar before though

Fuckmesideways · 12/03/2020 12:45

@BlackCatSleeping has provided you great advice for your product Smile

shanchanx · 12/03/2020 12:45

@SchadenfreudePersonified its crossed my mind!! I dont want to get done for harrassment or vandalism though as i know full well she woukd try it! We have had many other issue than just thks

OP posts:
shanchanx · 12/03/2020 12:49

@PeterPanGoesWrong If mine was at fault i could get it changed FREE from my landlrod, but apparently as its NOT my issue i cant! Have you read the thread? Been in a situation where you are counting every penny? I simply dont have the money to change it myzelf and it STILL be an issue if it is. I was seeing what other peoples opinions and views were and ive now been told its my fault. My landlord said it wasnt ours that was the issue and to get them to get onto theirs it wouldnt of cost anyone ojt of pocket if we could of been civilised about it and thoughtful of others!

OP posts:
shanchanx · 12/03/2020 12:49

@CornflakeBreath oh i think its both if im honest.

OP posts:
shanchanx · 12/03/2020 12:52

@Fuckmesideways they have indeed! I shall be trying it again ans seeing if i got it right first time :)

OP posts:
Lolwhat · 12/03/2020 12:52

You say you hate that it disturbs you and your baby but say you have better things to spend money on, clearly if it was bothering you that much you would just change it
