Hermes Delivery

Hello

I believe this is in the right place but have Hermes changed their delivery style?! I'm perfectly willing to be told I'm unreasonable but find the situation below a little odd.

We have recently moved house and very rarely shop online. However, I have just had a knock on the door from our local Hermes delivery lady who popped round to introduce herself.

She mentioned that she has a parcel for us and gave me her card and mobile number (but no parcel). Said that she will keep our parcels at home and we can call around and collect it when we want to as she gave up delivering as a lot of people arent in so rather than sending them back to the depot at the end of the allotted time she will keep them and people can pick up from her house.

I explained that we might not know whether we have a parcel via Hermes as sometimes the delivery doesnt tell us or provide tracking information. For example, the parcel I am waiting for has no delivery information just a 'standard delivery within 5 working days' clause. So how would we know to collect it? And we were told to list pop round on the off chance!

Explained I work from home a lot so would prefer parcels to be delivered in first instance but she said she can't do that.....

As she was leaving I asked for the parcel she said she had.... and she said she left it at home in case we weren't in and to pop round to collect it!🤣

My partner and I are pretty bemused and just looking at each other about what just happened. It seems as if this is the normal set up around here and just feel a bit put off that I'll still have to collect my parcel a mile away. I understand it must be annoying delivering parcels if no one is home but this seems a bit odd.

I am completely baffled!

I'd report her to Hermes. She isn't delivering the goods

CoralFish · 10/03/2020 12:58

Erm what? She is not doing her job...

CheshireDing · 10/03/2020 13:00

WTF !

She’s bonkers

IndigoHexagon · 10/03/2020 13:01

You need to report this to Hermes for sure!

mnthrowaway202020 · 10/03/2020 13:02

Complain to the retailer

HotTea03 · 10/03/2020 13:03

Hi Both

Yes I said that to my partner that we would have to report if we didnt receive items, but she was so loud and jolly and acted as if this was the norm (and had been for a while), my partner joked that as the newcomers to the small area it would be obvious we have reported and might be chased out with pitchforks Grin just bemused at the moment!

I'm sending him out to pick it up soon and he can reiterate that we want our parcels delivered.

I just wondered whether anybody else had come across this?

Contact Hermes, how can a delivery driver not deliver. Surely she's actually now a warehouse/depot.
The point of getting something delivered is convenience, what if you are disabled, what if you don't drive? What if you call for your parcel and SHE isn't in
So many questions. Report her please si they can sack her

Ruby8719 · 10/03/2020 13:05

That’s SO weird - do you live in a tiny village in the middle of nowhere?

Thegirlhasnoname · 10/03/2020 13:05

I’m suddenly grateful for the Hermes delivery I had this morning which hammered on the door waking my toddler up as at least he delivered the parcels

Definitely not standard Hermes and as pp, I’d be tempted to report her as she isn’t doing her job

underfall · 10/03/2020 13:10

Yes - complain to the retailer. Point out that orders are supposed to be delivered to the delivery address, which must be the cardholder’s address unless the cardholder specifies otherwise.

If the retailer doesn’t sort it out promptly, contact your card provider and dispute the transaction.

HotTea03 · 10/03/2020 13:10

Hi Ruby
Not exactly, we are called a village but actually on the outskirts of a city if that makes sense.

Reading the local Facebook posts it sounds like a village environment though.... someone has complained that a cycle has been chained at the train station for 2 days in a row now..... 🤣🤣

This very strange. To come and knock on your door to explain without bringing your parcel is nuts. You have paid for delivery. It should be delivered (at least one attempt).

thelittlestrhino · 10/03/2020 13:24

'My' hermes person allows me to pick up parcels from her house, which is very kind of her, as I'm rarely at home during the day. However, she is a friend of a friend and will message me if there is a parcel.

In your example though, I wouldn't be happy at being told that she wouldn't deliver!

BorneoBabe · 10/03/2020 13:26

If this is true, with the number of parcels I take in for neighbours I'm going to become a Hermes 'delivery' person. Might as well make a few quid out of it. Grin

SoupDragon · 10/03/2020 13:28

Part of me admires her for coming up with this idea! Being paid to sit in with people's parcels instead of delivering... pure genius!

Elouera · 10/03/2020 13:32

This is why we call them 'Herpes' and I avoid using them at all costs. This is bonkers though and not the norm at all! Politely get your parcel, but try to get her name/details etc then report. I'd also ask her, 'what are disabled/elderly etc supposed to do???' I'd like to hear her reply.

underfall · 10/03/2020 13:38

”Part of me admires her for coming up with this idea! Being paid to sit in with people's parcels instead of delivering... pure genius!”

Or pure scam.

SoupDragon · 10/03/2020 13:39

🙄

Sense of humour failure?

underfall · 10/03/2020 13:46

My guess is hat the Hermes tracking site page is being accessed to divert parcels to a different address.

Ayemama · 10/03/2020 14:53

What?! A delivery person who doesn't deliver? Just what!?

nornironrock · 10/03/2020 14:56

Wow - that's crazy!

And another reason why I check every time I want to order anything. If they use Hermes, they don't get my business.

underfall · 10/03/2020 15:00

Hermes is a delivery agency that’s famous for not delivering.

But in this case I am betting that scammers are at work.

Somanysocks · 10/03/2020 15:05

I want to comment on this thread but don't know how to 🤪🤪🤔

sprinklemagicinmyhair · 10/03/2020 15:11

So she turned up at your door to tell you she had a parcel for you but didn't bring the parcel and you didn't complain to her there and then?

Weird. Not something I would have held back over. ' Why did you not bring the parcel' 'is this a new Hermes thing, I will just check it out' please ensure you bring the parcel later today' etc etc

LoobyLou1976 · 10/03/2020 15:16

As far as I know Hermes get paid by the parcel, so in effect, you are doing her job for her and she is still getting paid! Totally unacceptable, the whole point of home delivery is for convenience! Why on earth should you be traipsing all over the place to collect your parcel when you have already PAID for delivery to your door? Definitely report her to Hermes!
My Hermes guy is fantastic, always delivers when he says he will and so helpful and friendly. It's very much a hit or miss thing and depends on your particular area.
This woman sounds entitled and bonkers.
