To be unhappy with doctors

My 8 year old has had a temp and headache since Friday at school when I picked her up she said she'd not been well in school. Anyway over the weekend her temp was increasing and only came down with ibuprofen. Anyway today her temp returned to normal but I kept her off to make sure she was fully recovered but then today out of the blue she was sick Everywhere when she hadn't even felt sick all the time she had a temp and then straight after complained she has pain in her side so my first reaction was panic thinking appendicitis. Made a doctors appointment and got in straight away and she examined her and said she wasn't tender to touch as she let him examine her so said do a urine sample and the receptionist will send it off to check for urine infection and result will come 2-3 days later. But now I'm worried thinking her appendix as burst now because it says online that once pain has subsided it's a sigh its burst and because it came out of the blue when it appeared she was getting better has worried me. Am I worrying over nothing ?
Surely If it was a stomach bug she would have felt sick from the start whilst having the temp and not just today?

Could you ring 111 and seek their advice and see if you could see an out of hours dr? When I had pain in my right side they took it really seriously and whisked me into hosp straight away so I’m surprised your GP didn’t! Sorry this isn’t more helpful advice, hope you’re little one feels better soon! FlowersFlowers

chinateapot · 10/03/2020 07:05

I can’t tell you online whether you’re worrying over nothing or not.... you could phone 111 for guidance.
But it does sound a bit like YABU to be unhappy with the doctor who saw your daughter quickly, examined her appropriately and made an assessment. I’m not quite sure what you’re unhappy with?

Sirzy · 10/03/2020 07:11

It sounds like the doctor saw your child quickly and did a suitable examination.

lmcneil003 · 10/03/2020 07:15

Go private and get a 2nd opinion.
Your child's health and your peace of mind are closely linked. Pay for getting things sorted. It's money well spent.

DevonLulu · 10/03/2020 07:15

Yes. HUGELY unreasonable. Timely examination and have given their highly informed opinion. I’m sure they suggested to call back should the situation chi able, as sometimes it does, often in children.

You are upset that you didn’t get the opinion you want!

Self help using the nhs choices website, HANDi app or patient.co.uk would save valuable resources and time, and if you are still worried, ring the GP in hours or NHS 111 out of hours, as others have said.

My on has been ill since last Tuesday. He had flu like symptoms, when he was standing said he felt sick, he was also vomiting. He appeared to pick up around Saturday then by Sunday night was ill again high temp etc but no vomiting.

I took him to the doc yesterday, he said he's most likely had one but then caught another in that time so would most like be ill for another week Sad.

My OH went around 3 local shops and they were all sold out of calpol, so frustrating! I think there's a few things flying around just now. Some of his teachers were off sick last week. Hopefully your Dd makes a speedy recovery. It's horrible when they're ill, more so with all this Corona virus talk(. Thanks

Wolfiefan · 10/03/2020 07:15

Why are you upset with the doctor because your child vomited after seeing them?
If you’re concerned call 111 or phone appointment with GP?

KindKylie · 10/03/2020 07:16

How is your daughter now?

When an appendix bursts it causes massive irritation and infection - the patient will become considerably more unwell with fever, pain and rigid abdomen. Its a surgical emergency and will be pretty obvious if so.

It sounds like you were seen and a full examination carried out fairly quickly.

Lougle · 10/03/2020 07:19

It's impossible to say online, but if the pain came after she was sick, it's as likely to be muscle strain from being sick as anything, tbh.

An appendix bursting isn't usually a spontaneous event. It's normally after it's been inflamed for some time, so you'd expect a long period of pain prior, whereas it sounds like your DD had quite a brief episode of pain?

How is she today?

tiredanddangerous · 10/03/2020 07:22

An appendix on the verge of bursting is agonisingly painful. Was she in severe pain? Is she eating and drinking?

SimonJT · 10/03/2020 07:23

As someone who had a burst appendix your daughter would be in extreme pain if it had happened to her.

Pain in the abdomen (including one side) is very common in vomiting children, it’s also very common in children with an upset stomach.

Guavaf1sh · 10/03/2020 07:23

Sounds like a great doctor

CecilyP · 10/03/2020 07:33

It sounds more like she was ill with one virus and then caught a sickness bug on top of that. I’m not sure what you expected the doctor to do. He examined her for appendicitis and found nothing! Now that the pain has gone, instead of being pleased she is better, you’re catastrophising about a burst appendix! How on earth is the doctor at fault?

Hotpinkangel19 · 10/03/2020 07:36

You'd know about it if her appendix had burst, I think you're being unreasonable. Not the doctors fault.

spongejack · 10/03/2020 07:36

So unless he confirmed burst appendix you're not happy? I really don't understand this thread!

spongejack · 10/03/2020 07:38

Also keep away from google doctor, it won't help!

Honeybee85 · 10/03/2020 07:39

OP I would call back the GP’s surgery and explain you’re still feeling worried.

Hopefully they’ll be able to assure you that it’s what you fear.

Honeybee85 · 10/03/2020 07:39

That it’s NOT what you fear Blush

Butterwhy · 10/03/2020 07:42

You'd know if her appendix had burst, she would be in agony and extremely poorly.

Hercwasonaroll · 10/03/2020 07:45

The doctor sounds thorough.

You sound like an over reacter.

T0tallyFuckedUpFamily · 10/03/2020 07:45

Did you give her the ibuprofen on an empty stomach? You’re supposed to only take it after food. It can be quite tough on the stomach. so maybe it was a reaction to that.

Namechangexyz1 · 10/03/2020 07:47

You're unhappy with doctors for failing to diagnose what you think the child has.

Stompythedinosaur · 10/03/2020 07:47

You wouldn't miss a burst appendix. She would be extremely I'll, like the sort of ill where you are in no doubt she needs an ambulance.

Try not to worry. The doctor sounds like they are making the sensible steps.

PinkDaffodil2 · 10/03/2020 07:51

I can’t figure out why you’re upset at the doctor. A burst or about to burst appendix is extremely painful - your daughter would have difficulty getting onto the couch let alone being examined.
