To be unhappy with doctors

My 8 year old has had a temp and headache since Friday at school when I picked her up she said she'd not been well in school. Anyway over the weekend her temp was increasing and only came down with ibuprofen. Anyway today her temp returned to normal but I kept her off to make sure she was fully recovered but then today out of the blue she was sick Everywhere when she hadn't even felt sick all the time she had a temp and then straight after complained she has pain in her side so my first reaction was panic thinking appendicitis. Made a doctors appointment and got in straight away and she examined her and said she wasn't tender to touch as she let him examine her so said do a urine sample and the receptionist will send it off to check for urine infection and result will come 2-3 days later. But now I'm worried thinking her appendix as burst now because it says online that once pain has subsided it's a sigh its burst and because it came out of the blue when it appeared she was getting better has worried me. Am I worrying over nothing ?
Surely If it was a stomach bug she would have felt sick from the start whilst having the temp and not just today?

When I had pain in my right side they took it really seriously and whisked me into hosp straight away so I’m surprised your GP didn’t!

I don't think this is a very helpful statement for the OP who is anxious about her child. Right sided abdominal pain can be a vast number of things, not just appendicitis. A medical assessment needs to be done before just whisking off to hospital. Just because the GP reassured mum on this occasion, it does not mean the GP did not take the symptoms seriously - it just meant that after assessing the child, they did not feel that appendicitis was particularly likely hence why hospital admission was not advised.

OP - It sounds like your child had an appropriate assessment by the GP. A non-tender tummy on examination is very reassuring that appendicitis is not present. However children can present vaguely early on in an illness so if you are worried she is getting worse I suggest you give them a call.

Yeah you're being unreasonable. The doctor investigates the most obvious possibilities and they're doing tests. Stop googling and scaring yourself.

Taciturn · 10/03/2020 07:56

Has she been tested for coronavirus?

HoppingPavlova · 10/03/2020 07:56

Have you ever met someone who has had a burst appendix? From what you describe your child’s appendix has not burst and does not sound as though it will immediately do so.

worriedmumishere · 10/03/2020 07:59

Thanks everyone

She's had a temp all week. Then she out of the blue is sick then she got the pain. Doctor said it's virus but it's been too long to have a temp for it to be just a virus

Goatymcgoaty · 10/03/2020 07:59

My son had milder symptoms than your daughter, just discomfort to the right of his belly button when pressed. The local gp wasn’t sure, the nurse practitioner was and sent us to paeds A&E. it was appendicitis. I know the Mumsnet opinion of going to A&E with anything less than your leg hanging off is a heinous crime, but the paeds surgical team would much rather you went in early just to be sure.

LiveatCityHall · 10/03/2020 08:05

I had a burst appendix and I was actually sick for a couple of days before realising it was appendicitis. My stomach was hard to touch and very tender. When it burst I was in absolute agony but luckily was on my way to theatre. It sounds like your GP did a thorough examination and if he suspected appendicitis she would have been taken to hospital immediately.

NorthernBirdAtHeart · 10/03/2020 08:11

my daughter was recently off school with all the symptoms you describe, including a temperature for 7 days. It was a virus. Try not to worry.
Hope she’s feeling better soon.

ToelessPobble · 10/03/2020 08:23

Oopsie you forgot to change your name back from your second thread on this where you took your child to A&E and was unhappy with their assessment of your child too (and their comment that taking a child to A&E could put them.at heightened risk of Corona). Viruses can be nasty so you don't need to feel dismissed and use the term "only a virus". Flu is a virus and people can be unwell with that for two weeks and have a high temperature more than three or four days. I hope your daughter recovers quickly.

sammylady37 · 10/03/2020 08:28

YABU to have more faith in google search results than in the qualified doctor who actually examined your child.

GiveHerHellFromUs · 10/03/2020 08:30

Yeah @woriedmumishere / @inthedarkX your name change fail has made you look like even more of an idiot.

You didn't want to wait for the urine sample results so you took your child to A&E? And they also didn't take you seriously...

Hercwasonaroll · 10/03/2020 08:43

You sound like an absolute time waster OP.

Your kid has a virus, they can last a couple of easily. Corona VIRUS is a virus, the clue is in its name!!

Hercwasonaroll · 10/03/2020 08:44

Temp and headache since Friday.... So 4 days. You need to have a look at your reactions to things.

NoMorePoliticsPlease · 10/03/2020 08:45

doctor is prob unhappy with you too

Sirzy · 10/03/2020 08:59

Viruses can easily make you ill for 4 days. And can cause a fever.

A virus nearly killed Ds when he was little. CoronaVIRUS is a virus.

It sounds like your child has a minor virus like many people do at any given time. You seem to be determined to turn it into something it isn’t

waterbottle12 · 10/03/2020 09:15

A burst appendix will give a brief relief of pain and then the child will get very unwell very quickly. If she's getting better it wasn't appendicitis.

Aisforharlot · 10/03/2020 09:16

Appendix pain is unbearable, you’d know.
