To be annoyed friend never sorted the wart out?

Friends DD has wart on her finger. Has had it for ages and has never treated it. Am i being unfair to find this irritating as her DD regularly plays with/holds hands with my DD and as such puts her at risk of passing on the wart to her?

Warts are not contagious unless they are bleeding in to another open wound.

You are being downright rude and insensitive to your friend.

BunnytheBee · 10/03/2020 21:38

I’d feel the same as you OP but it sounds like the advice is to leave them

You’ll have to tell your DD not to hold hands with her but somehow in a way you know she won’t repeat it and upset her friend

Attitude84 · 10/03/2020 21:40

I had one for a couple of years as a child, non of my friends were bothered by it or caught any from me. My mother treated it with Salic acid and a file and it was gone within a few weeks. If your friend doesn’t want to treat her child’s wart then that’s her decision until the girl is older and still non of your business.

ElderAve · 10/03/2020 21:42

Yes, you're supposed to leave them. They eventually go and then you have immunity. Treated, they come back. I've never had a second one, but it did take a couple of years to disappear.

Cissyandflora · 10/03/2020 21:53

You may give a toad a wart but a toad may not give a wart to you.

MermaidinJeans · 10/03/2020 22:03

One of my dd's had very painful warts on her feet...tea tree oil sorted them out. Same with DS who had some on his hands.

My kids aren't toads.... Honest.

OMGafourth · 10/03/2020 22:23

I second potassium pomangemate. My uncle treated mine for me. Stung like a bitch (he took the top off one first before pouring it in) and I still have the scar, but got rid of them.
I don't believe you can buy it at the pharmacy anymore, but they do sell it for cleaning ponds I believe!

Rachel709 · 10/03/2020 23:13

Aloe Vera plant juice, straight from the plant. Or dandelion stem juice. Both natural treatments. YABU.

attatiti · 10/03/2020 23:17

How do you propose she sorts it out?

ffswhatnext · 10/03/2020 23:27

Wow I’m amazed 16% agree with you.

As a child I had one. No one caught it from me. Eventually it fell off in its own. No idea how long it was there for. One day it appeared and eventually it disappeared.

It’s weird, decades later I still miss it. There was something comforting about rubbing it with my thumb.
Still rub the area though.

My worst childhood memories are using that bloody Compound W on my warts. I'm 40 now and I am genuinely unable to touch the inside of my little finger. Just to touch it gives me the worst feeling and brings me out in a cold sweat. The reason is that I had always had a wart there as a child. Every night dad would scrape at it with sandpaper and then apply Compound W just before bed. God the memories of that scratch scratch scratch of the matchbox side, Emory board or sandpaper. Confused Shit I'm feeling queasy thinking about it now more than 35 years later. And all that messing for all those years did nothing. Nothing at all. There it sat, and eventually it spread until I had them all over my hands due to the constant attacking of it.

It wasn't until I was in my teens did I go and have them burned off. The pain was horrendous. Unbearable. The doctor could do only one hand because I had so many and it was torture. All because they messed with one single wart that they should have left well alone.

Chillicheese123 · 11/03/2020 00:46

I chewed mine off my hand as a child. I was bored one day in an assembly and I just decided it was coming off. It bled like mad and I still have a tiny scar. Absolutely nuts!

OchAyeThaNoo · 11/03/2020 00:48

Oh and anyone saying to tell your child to keep away from her friend or to not hold hands, thank you. Thank you for being the type of people who made me as a small innocent child feel like a freak. Thank you for raising children who will squeal and run away laughing from the girl with the gross hands. Thanks a lot for being the reason a small child goes home after school in tears every day.

OneHanded · 11/03/2020 00:52

Completely ridiculous. Most over the counter are purely to make the company profit. Most adults sufferers can tell you that. Your body eventually gets the fucker. Poor child.

ToftyAC · 11/03/2020 02:30

I had warts. Non-contagious. Only thing that got rid was honest to god sea water. Never had them again!

Endoftether2000 · 11/03/2020 06:03

That's right llot5 my old doctor told me when I was about 8 rub some Pork on my warts Bury it in the garden and when the meat had rotten away they will all be gone my Mother entertained this idea and lol they did 😂😉 I am glad I read this post my daughter has one big wart tried every thing still there I know it should go of its own accord eventually but what do I know according to my daughter I forget at 11 she knows everything 🤔😂🤣😅

wildgirls · 11/03/2020 06:16

I had 4 on my hand when I was little. I used to get really picked on and I hated them. They were there for what felt like ages. Finally had an appointment to get them frozen off and woke up that morning nervous for the appointment and they were all gone! Such bizarre timing! I spent ages looking for them in my bed!

CorianderLord · 11/03/2020 06:31

I've never 'caught' a wart from my boyfriend of 7 years who has one on his hand calm down. Their medical decisions are their own business and the NHS doesn't treat warts anymore I believe.

It's not the plague

JiltedJohnsJulie · 11/03/2020 06:33

How do you know they haven’t treated it?

RoseGoldEagle · 11/03/2020 06:37

I had a wart on one ginger for years as a young teenager. At about 14/15, I suddenly got loads more all over my hands (13 in total, I remember as I was so embarrassed about it at the time). A few months later, they all vanished at the same time, literally overnight, including the original one.

Oldoaktrees · 11/03/2020 06:41

Apple Cider Vinegar works!!!
Soak a small piece of cotton wool in ACV, cover wart and wrap duct tape around. Change daily until wart goes black. It will then scab and drop off. Gone in a few days. Totally totally works.
On verrucas too as well as raised skin moles.

CamVegOut · 11/03/2020 06:51

Best thing I have found for warts and veruccas is dab them in apple cider vinegar before bed and wrap the area of foot/hand in duct tape (so no air gets in). You will see black spots each day. Scrape it when you can. It will quite quickly disappear.

midnightstar66 · 11/03/2020 06:55

YABVU, warts are not especially contagious... veruccas a little more so thanks to the damp warm environment in swimming pools however at home I've never caught dd's verucca and neither has her younger sister. It's not causing pain so we've been advised to leave it alone. Had a long term bf with warts on his fingers in my teens and never caught them, we held hands daily.

Mittens030869 · 11/03/2020 07:01

Calm down, it's only a wart!

MummyMayo1988 · 12/03/2020 14:40

As a little girl/teenager I had one on my ring finger. My mum tried freezing it but nothing happened.
I eventually got into the habit if washing my hands a lot. Also using antibacterial gel. It just went away on its own. Just make sure your DD washes her hands before eating. She will be fine! It's not like they're life threatening!
