To have expected to have lost more weight by now?

I'm
I'm quite overweight I suppose. 3 stone ish. So we are definitely not in the realms of losing the last few lbs or anything!

I started a diet and I'll have been on it 3 weeks tomorrow. I'm basically being sensible, calorie counting and keeping carbs to good ones and also low. Plenty of veg and fruit. Drinking water

In these almost 3 weeks I've lost 11 lbs. I expected more I think Confused

It's making me feel a bit despondent tbh. Is it a decent loss considering I have about 3 stone in total to lose? How can I speed it up? Activity has been upped so I think I'm doing all I can

That's 3lbs shy of a stone. In three weeks.

Relax dude.

DesLynamsMoustache · 09/03/2020 09:41

That's loads! How much more did you expect?!

Brogeliodelavega · 09/03/2020 09:41

That’s a great loss! Well done.

Why don’t you think it’s enough?

BananaBang · 09/03/2020 09:42

I think I expected more because I'm one of those ridiculous daily weighers so it moves at a glacial pace when you're hopping on and off every day. Oh and because I'm what I feel is significantly overweight.

Ugh. I'll try and relax and plod on.

That sounds a really good weight loss to me!

There's an old thread about this at that might give you some ideas.

Alarae · 09/03/2020 09:45

Healthy weight loss is 1lb a week, 2lb a week if a higher BMI.

You have doubled that, so be mindful that you are keeping up with strength exercises to preserve muscle as at the rate you are losing inevitable some will be muscle loss, not just fat.

Mauhea · 09/03/2020 09:46

Slow and steady is the best way to both lose weight and keep it off long term. I believe the generally recommended rate of loss is about 1-2lbs a week. So the fact you've doubled that is a great achievement, what you're doing is obviously making an impact and you just need to carry on. You may well find after this initial rush your losses are a little smaller in the future but this shouldn't deter you! For what it's worth I also started my diet 3 stone overweight and have lost 15lb in the last 8 weeks (so just shy of 2lbs a week). You're smashing it!

welshfishwife · 09/03/2020 09:47

11lb in three weeks is loads! You're doing really well. Don't weigh yourself daily, that is the road to madness. Pick a day time (and outfit!) and stick to that. Go you!

JoshArcherStoleMyTractor · 09/03/2020 09:47

Maybe don't weigh every day, leave it for once a week or twice a week at most , I'd be chuffed to lose a stone in a month which is what you're on course for

LiquoricePickle · 09/03/2020 09:47

Most people should be able to lose 1-2lbs a week healthily. You're losing very quickly. Well done though and don't give up.

MouthBreathingRage · 09/03/2020 09:48

If you aim to lose as much as possible in a small time frame, all you'll do is get disappointed and lose motivation. That's why crash diets never work. Either change your lifestyle for good and not worry too much about your weight over how healthy you are, or crash diet and inevitably put that weight back on and more. It's not a race.

Youhavewonaprize · 09/03/2020 09:48

That’s great! I’ve lost nearly 2 stone so far this year. Worth pointing out I lost about half of it in the first two weeks then my body adjusted and 1-2lbs per week, so you should expect your losses to slow down as well

OkMaybeNot · 09/03/2020 09:48

How long did it take you to gain?

This is what gives me most perspective when I'm feeling like I'm going to be fat forever.

It took me four years to get as overweight as I am. Gradual pounds creeping on, week after week, month after month. It's gonna take time to lose it too.

You've lost nearly 4lbs a week. If anything it's a bit too fast.

BananaBang · 09/03/2020 09:51

It took me a couple of years to put it on, with a significant amount of that going on last year due to a couple of bereavements which led to quite some spectacular overeating. I literally never stopped stuffing my face with cake and cheese

Some blood tests showed a slight increase in cholesterol - nothing to be too concerned about according to the doctor but it was creeping up a bit. And my knees started protesting a little and I had heartburn for the first time ever

So I've gone relatively drastic in my diet whilst still eating properly. I don't want health issues associated with my weight and I just know they're looming on the horizon

I'd like to be job done by July tbh

Healthy weight loss is 1lb a week, 2lb a week if a higher BMI

^This! That's a great start - if anything you'll probably find it starts to slow down fairly soon as that is quite a rapid loss.

Don't weigh yourself daily. Or if you must, use a trend weight app like Libra to smooth out the daily fluctuations. Weekly or even fortnightly is better though

LettertoHermoine · 09/03/2020 09:54

You are doing great!!! Well done!

Fluffybutter · 09/03/2020 09:55

The first lot of weight you losers is water so not actual fat.
It’s not a bad weight loss but it’s going to take time .
Don’t eat too much fruit as it contains a lot of sugar

Fluffybutter · 09/03/2020 09:56

*lose ffs

QualityStreeet · 09/03/2020 09:56

That’s a huge amount of weight loss. I used to hover around 11.5 stone and have now been consistently under 9 for a number of years. I tried so many diets. I’d lose it all and then gain it all back and then some. If you want sustainable weight loss, this is my advice. Don’t make changes to your diet that you aren’t prepared to stick to permanently. The old phrase “lifestyle change” is so true. Allow yourself a healthy balanced diet. It’s okay to include sweets and cake in that, it really is all about moderation and ensuring your eating plenty of nutrient dense food. I have realised that portion control is a huge issue for many people who are overweight so adjust your portions to sizes that you are content with sticking to.

Slow and steady really does win the race with this!

Also, another thing that helped me; After ages of eating well and losing weight, I’d suddenly find myself, mid binge, feeling like an absolute failure! Someone once told me that everyone binges from time to time. One binge will have such a minimal effect on your weight. If I ever find myself mid binge now, I just accept it and move on. I don’t “fall off the wagon” so to speak. The truth is, I’m not on any wagon in the first place. When you create too many rules around food, that’s when you are setting yourself up for failure in the long term.

Best of luck with your weight loss journey. I hope some of my post has been helpful to you.

Kaykay066 · 09/03/2020 09:58

I’ve probably got a similar amount to lose perhaps a wee bit more and I think 11lbs is a great first loss in 3 weeks am v jealous!! Perhaps there is something else you could cut down on?
I just need to stop bloody eating I’m feeling like I’m just greedy!! It’s horrible I feel hungry constantly so going to try to eat more filling foods and cut right back on refined sugar etc as it’s absolutely an addiction I’m going through a difficult time and food is my happy place in a sense...but now spring is in the air I’m feeling more inclined to get outside and walk etc so hopefully that’ll help too. Do you exercise? (I’m rubbish I have good intentions but I woke up with an upset stomach today so feel washed out....
I think you’ve done great, if things go the same in the next 3 weeks you’ll have lost 22lb in 6 weeks which is pretty fab?

BananaBang · 09/03/2020 10:00

@QualityStreeet very helpful thank you!

MissConductUS · 09/03/2020 10:00

1 to 2 pounds a week is all you can lose in a healthy, sustainable way.

BananaBang · 09/03/2020 10:06

@Kaykay066 it's tough isn't it? I literally couldn't stop eating. And it was all rubbish. I never ate meals - just junk food and I've attempted a diet every Monday for the past 6 months!

However - I mean it this time. I was low with grief (not depressed, just sad) and I still am but I now realise that I can't keep compromising my own health like this - I've got kids and owe it to them to stick around if it's within my power to do so.

Don't think it helps that the 11lbs lost so far just doesn't show at all yet!

Don't think I can cut back further tbh as one poster suggested. It's got to be sustainable for me I suppose. A typical day would be ...

Fat free Greek yogurt
Berries
Sprinkling of seeds or a few nuts

Pitta pizza. I take a wholemeal pitta and I split it. Cover with veg toppings. Comes in at 250 cals. Or I have a salad with cottage cheese or quorn. Or i make egg wraps and have them with cream cheese or avocado. Sometimes I roast vegetables with feta cheese

Protein bar or shake.

Snacks are a couple of babybel lights. Watermelon. Veg crudités with hummus.

I loosely follow the principles of the Fast800 diet with tweaks as I'm vegetarian. If I eat carbs it'll be just for one meal a day. I don't stick to 800 cals as too low for me but 1000 /1100 is about right

My only small piece of advice is to have one naughty treat a day so you are not obsessing over lack of - chocolate - for example. I always buy a 4 pack of small choc bars every day (most days) so that if we want it in the evening it’s there - better than depriving and going mad at the weekend!
