To no longer want my evening alone

chellochello · 07/03/2020 20:26

So this is probably the 1st weekend evening I've had alone in about a year - my 2 older kids are sleeping at friends, my youngest is fast asleep in bed and my DH is on a rare boys night out. I've been soo looking forward to this night thinking I'll have a little glass of wine and watch some grown up telly and enjoy me own company for a bit. However now I'm all on my own I don't know what to do with myself and find I'm sitting watching Ant and Dec feeling a bit sorry for myself with a cup of tea instead - anyone recommend anything I can watch to cheer myself up?

Fuck me was looking for some Netflix recommendations not a flogging - my DH worked away for many years so was always happy with
my own company but it's been so long I'm really not used to being on my own - sorry if some people are lonely believe me I've been there

Don’t apologise @chellochello

Nasty fuckers for literally no reason. Flowers

thequeenandherguurrllls · 07/03/2020 21:02

Most evenings and weekends I'm on my own, I've just come out of an horrific relationship and there are times when I feel sorry for myself because I'm alone.
But then I remember that I'm alone in my own space that I've worked damn hard for, I do have a great bunch of friends.
I look at my own time to be a time of self care, have that pamper session. Watch what you want on T.V.
But most of the time I'm thankful for the things I do have even if they aren't much to other people, if I'm sad and lonely it's only me that can change that for which I'm very thankful for

Well my comment was deleted. Let hope someone reports all the nasty ones to the OP Confused

GiveHerHellFromUs · 07/03/2020 21:04

Some people are feeling a bit sensitive on here today, I think!

OP I don't think it helps that the tv is shite tonight. Find some crappy chick flick and crack out the bourbons Grin

catbsfhs · 07/03/2020 21:05

Listen to Shagged, Married, Annoyed (Chris and Rosie Ramsey's podcast)!! They're hilarious so it should definitely cheer you up. Oh and a takeaway and nice drink should do the trick too :D

Lovemusic33 · 07/03/2020 21:05

I’m alone every evening 🤣, I have 2 teenagers who do their own thing (hide in their rooms) and have been single for 5 years. Took me a while to get used to but now I enjoy my alone time, which is most of the time.

MajesticWhine · 07/03/2020 21:05

Watch Sex Education on netflix Wine

Butterwhy · 07/03/2020 21:06

Some nice food out of the cupboard, something cheesy on netflix, bliss!

katy1213 · 07/03/2020 21:08

Switching off Ant and Dec would be a good start. And a big glass of wine. Find something good on radio 4.
What you ought to have done, of course, was order the new Hilary Mantel!

MsChatterbox · 07/03/2020 21:08

I'm watching liar on itv hub atm it's really good!

chellochello · 07/03/2020 21:08

Nasty fuckers for literally no reason.

How do you know?

avocadont · 07/03/2020 21:11

The comments on this thread 😂

I know how you feel OP, if you have any hobbies now would be a good time to have a little play with some of those.

Have a good night whatever you decide to do

ChicCroissant · 07/03/2020 21:11

What kind of thing do you normally like to watch, OP? The hive mind of MN is waiting to help (ignore the posters that are me-railing Grin ) and you should definitely start with a glass of wine!

ChicCroissant · 07/03/2020 21:11

Cross post, good move with the cheese and crackers!

Wineislifex · 07/03/2020 21:12

God if some posters are this awful to strangers then no wonder they’re lonely and miserable!!

OP you need drinks, nibbles and as for Netflix recommendations how about pesky blinders or you? Firm favourites of mine!

Falcor40 · 07/03/2020 21:13

I'm the same as you op!! My husband often has to go away for work and I hate it. Right now however he's pissed me off. So I'm upstairs looking at Mumsnet. Hoping to sleep through the night. And dd2 threw up tons 2 hrs ago. All on my beige carpet. Took a good 30 mins to clear.

Good luck!

Mummiepig · 07/03/2020 21:14

Try watching bates motel on Netflix, so good, you also need wine, crisps and chocolate, have a great evening x

Butterwhy · 07/03/2020 21:14

Good choice OP! Do you fancy watching a film or TV series? I usually just flick through Netflix and try a few things until I find one I want to carry on watching

Louise91417 · 07/03/2020 21:17

Iv just watched the stranger on netflix...would recommendWine

DesLynamsMoustache · 07/03/2020 21:17

Blimey, what happened on this thread!

I get what you mean, OP. Sometimes the idea of things ends up being better than the reality!

Yabadee · 07/03/2020 21:17

I hear ya! DP works away so I’m on my own most evenings. And with a 5 year old in bed I can’t even go out!

She had a play date today so I made good use of my free time by painting the kitchen. I’m sore in places I didn’t know existed.

When she came home, we had a bath, she went to bed, I ordered Chinese and watched central intelligence (hilarious) now am in bed watching women behind bars on Netflix!

Enjoy your wine, cheese and crackers

OhCaptain · 07/03/2020 21:18

Nasty fuckers for literally no reason.

How do you know?

Because I can read?

ByeMF · 07/03/2020 21:20

Separated so on my own every evening as the teens no longer want to hang out with me! Love, love, love it. COBRA is good, need to find a good Netflix serries. Mainly I 'play' by doing my hobby stuff which I couldn't do for years.
I love the 'good' bits of Ant and Dec and fast forward the rest of it Grin
