What would be your ideal Earth?

The older I get, the more I see that the way Earth is right now: is just because other humans have decided it is to be this way. Humans at the top that are selfish, and who are making it difficult for everyone else. The Earth could actually be much more improved, and easier for everyone.

It is fun to imagine:

In my ideal Earth,
There would not be governments as we have them now, there would be a central processing office, that gives every human in the country - the basic items that they need every week.l to survive

There would be no government - where a small amount of people, rule over, and make decisions for the rest of the country. Every human would be as important as each other, and have a say.

No one would be forced to work. There would be a basic income given out to everyone, and then people can work on top of that if they want to, they could also just do hobbies, fun things, more freedom to do whatever they want.

That Earth could easily exist as the one we have now.

What would be your ideal Earth?

No people.

Not great for me personally, but the planet would be Grand.

Delbelleber · 07/03/2020 13:04

You're earth sounds completely unrealistic and would never work!
My earth would be instead of industrial farming and mass production, each community would have small holdings to maintain and people would live off the land. Solar power everywhere. People seeing their food for what it is not just some packaged product on a shelf.

angell84 · 07/03/2020 13:07

@delbelleber

We haven't always worked as much, as we do right now!

The 9-5 work day, was started by Henry Ford, In America in the 1920's.

It wasn't always done.

angell84 · 07/03/2020 13:08

@Delbelleber Living off the land sounds great, I would like that too, that would be ao much fun.

We could be more self - sustainable. Working for ourselves as we choose, rather than working for others

I want to go to the high meggas for a holiday but the reality is I like this one as dusty as it is it is home

angell84 · 07/03/2020 13:14

And in my ideal Earth, women and men are equally respected.

Women are respected very much, for their essential part in creation, for their ability to bring new life in.

And in my ideal Earth - women see that they are strong and capable and powerful and equal, and they love themselves and support other women

A lot of hobbies will be completely impossible without people working in various places. It would be very dull I imagine.

angell84 · 07/03/2020 13:18

@user1471517900 yes in this Earth - you can choose to work if you want to.
You can also choose to not work.
Or just follow your passion/hobbies.

That is the point of universal basic income. Everyone has enough money to survive. Then if you want to work on top of that - you can, if you don't want to work for a few years or for many years - you also can.

Universal Basic income is being tested in the world right now, so it might come in!

TSSDNCOP · 07/03/2020 13:19

On the plus side there would be no need for the word “hobby”. Which I’d be cool with.

If New Earth could be set up so there were no races that’d be good. I’d also insist that poor old Africa got more rain too.

Becclescake · 07/03/2020 13:24

Just no animal cruelty, or child abuse/neglect

Fizzypoo · 07/03/2020 13:24

The 9 to 5 was an improvement. Weekends haven't existed for that long. Before ww1 poor people worked for the land owners and had two days off a year. Mothering sunday to go back to their mother church and boxing day.

My world would have solar, wind or water electricity everywhere. A universal basic income and a non corrupt gov where MPs and civil servants earnt a decent amount but not obscene. They would also have to have 10 years experience in social work/youth work/nhs or pro bono legal work.

angell84 · 07/03/2020 13:28

That sounds great @fizzypoo :). That is a really good point - that the Government - should have more experience of a wide range of social issues - before they are allowed to be in Government.

OP the reason your plan your idea sounds terrible is because it would create a lot of lazy humans. If you offer people the option of not working and receiving money, they would absolutely choose it. Nobody would be productive. Nobody would do the difficult jobs such as caring for the elderly, education, healthcare or cleaning sewage. Because why would they? Who would catch and prosecute criminals if nobody wants to work in the police force or law? The world would be full of dangerous, violent criminals and who would save you and your family from them? It would be mayhem. No thanks!

NorthEndGal · 07/03/2020 13:33

You cant run a central anything, or universal anything, without some form of government. Someone needs to over see orders and delivery and supply, who makes all the products being handed out, if no one is going to work?
Where does the universal income come from, if not the people? Then we have to decide who is responsible to contribute those funds.

Far better to dream of small, local government, improved emphasis on caring and responsible management of resources, or more efforts put into child protection services and mental wellness support.

angell84 · 07/03/2020 13:34

@DjMomo it is mayhem now.

DS says you are either a Marxist or a Communist.

TSSDNCOP · 07/03/2020 13:37

It is starting to sound a little bit like communist China Chairman OP.

angell84 · 07/03/2020 13:39

@NorthEndGal yes, maybe a more localises government. But I would personally like, maybe a smaller, localised governement. But that they do not have power over us, that every human being - has more input into decisions.

For example - there is a decision to be made for a city. There could still be a small Government, there could also be a mobile phone app - where each citizen is asked for his decision on every major decision.

The world as it is right now, is not working. Child abuse, hunger, poverty, racism, sexism, cruelty everywhere, huge amounts of suicide.

I think that we all need to start realising our own power a bit more, we all create the Earth, and we can all change it for the better. Everyone's voice and opinion is important. Even talking about it online is so important.

OP posts:
Crinkle77 · 07/03/2020 13:39

@MitziK totally agree. The planet would be much better off with no people on it. OP's idea just wouldn't work cos people are too selfish as demonstrated by the last few days panic buying.

angell84 · 07/03/2020 13:40

@TSSDNCOP I don't think that the countries currently trialling universal basic income are marxist or communist.

And neither am I.

OP posts:
user1471517900 · 07/03/2020 13:46

Who is making these basic items for survival by the way?

madroid · 07/03/2020 13:47

Free education at any time/any place.
Ban private education/Oxbridge - keeps an elite and hierarchy going
Ban royalty - keeps the hierarchy operating
No fossil fuels
No private cars (v. cheap car pools/shares/hires, v good public transport with private pods/carriages).

By the time you factor in all the bureaucracy and other costs to collect tax, a universal basic income is very realistic. The Lib Dems suggested £12k about 20 years ago.

I think some financial reward for voluntarily working is good but it should be capped say at £30k pa. Why is a CEO's work more important or seen as more demanding than a manager or a cleaner? Or a barrister more than a builder?

Every country should have the same GDP and the population should be set at a sustainable level than remain static. If it was monitored and the word went out that it was growing, I think most people would listen to that and adjust the number of children they had voluntarily.

The same mechanism should be applied to all economies - no growth would be the aim to ensure we can live sustainably.

lidoshuffle · 07/03/2020 13:52

No humans; Earth would be heaven indeed.

madroid · 07/03/2020 13:54

I think most people, would choose to do some work. If you are free to do the job you enjoy you would want to do it.

It would take a change in mindset. We would need to be more cooperative and collaborative, less competitive. In other words we would need a very inclusive attitude to each other, where gaining something for yourself at the cost of someone else was seen as enormously shameful and unacceptable.

A new religion that literally loved your neighbour as much as yourself is needed.... oh wait Grin

onionface · 07/03/2020 13:56

Who's going to be doing all of the jobs that need doing in order for people to have basic items to live?

Medicine needs researchers to develop drugs, drug manufacturers, and medical staff to administer drugs and provide treatments and care.

Food production? Waste management? Policing? Emergency services? People manufacturing things for basic needs and infrastructure? Maintenance of existing infrastructure?

If we had to do all of those things for ourselves we'd be too busy trying to heat our caves and protect ourselves and find food, to enjoy hobbies. And hobbies only exist because other people work to provide goods and services for those hobbies.
