Of course, anything can be a snack but, as you acknowledge, ham is an expensive one.
Processed salty meat isn't great to be eating in quantity, as I'm sure you're aware, but it depends on how your overall diet is as to whether this is an issue.
To help with the cost, both Aldi and Lidl (I think) sell 400 g packs of ham trim for less than £2, which is quite naice ham, but not nice even slices, I think it's the ends of ham joints that have been sliced up.
I saw it recommended on here and had never noticed it, because it's in value labelling and I don't normally look at value meat, but it's some of the best quality ham you can get in supermarkets, outside the finest type ranges. A bit tricky for sliced bread sandwiches, but brilliant for adding to pasta bakes, salads or similar, and also suitable for snacking.
