to think "Are you on glue? is a terrible comeback?

I've seen it recommended on MN as the perfect retort to use on a CF. I've just seen it used on a thread. But it's rubbish!

Who's been on glue since the 80s? If someone used this insult on me, I'd think they'd learnt English from watching Grange Hill. And then I'd just say, "No," with a tinkly head-tilt. It's hardly the type of dazzling put-down that leaves you gasping for breath.

AIBU?

It's up there with people thinking they're passed on a message that ended a situation by giving 'a look' or (worse) 'Paddington stare'.

In real life where this happened they just look like stuck-up or that they've no idea how to handle the situation (no matter how minor).

LittleBearPad · 06/03/2020 08:03

I love the words cockwomble and wankbadger. So descriptive.

PrincessHoneysuckle · 06/03/2020 08:15

@CheerBear23 we used to say this in the 90s in Yorkshire.Takes me back Grin

GinDaddy · 06/03/2020 08:19

Every time I see someone use one of these Mumsnetter things ( stare, head tilt, little laugh to try and demean ) I just smile to myself at how insecure they must be.

I also think it's fascinating that Mumsnet will send out warnings to folk for objecting to the name of mass murderers in their usernames, but won't see any issue whatsoever in someone saying "ODFOD" to another user - surely that breaks the board's house rules?

P999 · 07/03/2020 01:10

Ignorant here. What does ODFOD stand for?

P999 · 07/03/2020 01:17

How about a simple 'fuck the fuck off'? Which i told my exMIL to do.

P999 · 07/03/2020 01:19

Because she is a cunt. Again. Keeping it simple and to the point?

nosleepp · 07/03/2020 01:23

@Alwaysscrolling bonkers is always used by me

knightlight · 07/03/2020 01:29

Someone said it to me on here and I just concluded they must have been 105.

Sobeyondthehills · 07/03/2020 04:51

I dont think I have seen it on a MNs thread, I have seen it in a computer game, called Monkey Island from I think 1990.

Its a great game, made a come back in 2000 I think

Theroigne · 07/03/2020 05:49

I so agree with all of this thread!!

Squigean · 07/03/2020 06:52

@P999, ODFOD = oh do fuck off dear.

comingintomyown · 07/03/2020 07:02

YANBU I can’t stand any of the twee MN “sayings” never had them when I joined 10 years ago

Herja · 07/03/2020 07:04

I have actually been asked "did you mean to be so rude?". It was wonderful. I was pissed off and had definitely intended to be rude, so I responded with something like, "of course I did you fucking idiot", it didn't seem to be the response they expected, as they were a bit upset by it, but honestly! What on earth do people expect back to that?

Act your age not your shoe size

How could anyone actually say this irl without Prince singing it in their head? Too distracting while having a spat.

Not true. Witnessed a woman with a double buggy wanting to get on a bus where there were already two buggies in the wheelchair space. Believe me if looks could have killed , those babies on the bus would have been orphans.

Also who can forget the Lionel Blair death stare. Scary.
