AIBU to find posts lie this on FB intensely irritating...
"Hi laydees,
So I wanna get a facial . Don’t go to salons other than for hair . So any recommendations for a reasonably priced (but good obv) I’m town centre plz".
Post is on local FB group. Struggling not to post snarky response! "
Perhaps I'm just a grumpy old fart.... However, a momentary distraction from my current addiction to Corona updates and stockpiling threads.

@Ponoka7
😀 I never said thick
I’m as common as muck and probably say both of those words but and it’s a big but I would never write it that way. Ladies and want to are just as easy to write as laydee and wanna. To prove my point my I pad changed the word laydee numerous times because even it knew it is not a proper word.

DanielRicciardosSmile · 05/03/2020 20:32

I tend not to use abbreviations and unusual spellings (unless my auto correct decides to come out to play that is), but I really can't summon the energy to be hugely annoyed at others that choose to. Scrolling past would seem to be a more useful way of dealing with it than penning snarky responses.

MimiLaRue · 05/03/2020 20:39

people are just baffled at your reaction to an innocent request for recommendations for a facial

Yep- this. Um... the only person who appears to have been "triggered" is you OP- just read your posts back to yourself Grin

user1498572889 · 05/03/2020 20:40

@DanielRicciardosSmile
Yes

nikkylou · 05/03/2020 20:48

They are irritating. But I don't mind recommendation posts as a whole but I think it depends on the area. Some obviously are a random mix of cousins, parents, sil's mum's dog's friend's owners. Others though come to as much of a consensus as fb manages, with 2/3 people mentioning the same person.

The posts I have to stop myself are the "I'm after a IKEA unit, does anyone know where I can get one?"

Erm....IKEA?

MitziK · 05/03/2020 20:52

When I am the Post-Apocalyptic Emperor of All That Remains, I shall compel the quivering IT Technicians who have survived due to their isolation in darkened server rooms with All The Pot Noodles to code an Autocorrect function that takes such linguistic atrocities and converts them into Proper English.

And maybe deliver a small electric shock to the texter in the process

There may be a place for you in my New World Order, OP. Keep in touch.

YouBoggleMyMind · 05/03/2020 21:23

Haha I've seen this post on the same Facebook group OP.

Samtsirch · 05/03/2020 21:27

Just post your response, as everyone else has done.
You don’t need any one’s permission or approval, just as they didn’t.

SapphireSeptember · 05/03/2020 22:07

No, I agree with OP, I hate these kinds of posts. Ditto stupid questions that would take you five seconds on Google to find the answer to. It's not an age thing either! I'm only 31, although I have been a Grumpy since I was 14.

StillCoughingandLaughing · 05/03/2020 23:56

@StillCoughingandLaughing seriously really seriously you think that is an ok thing to say. Wtf is wrong with people.

Well, I can’t tell you what’s wrong with all people, but in your case, I think it’s overuse of the word ‘seriously’.

StillCoughingandLaughing · 05/03/2020 23:58

Common? I didn't think people still said that kind of thing about others.

Well, you live and learn.

BlessedAreTheCheesemakerz · 06/03/2020 00:51

There are two things about it that make me roll my eyes. However, I suspect they're not the same things that are annoying you. Wink

Pinkginhelps · 06/03/2020 06:31

@overnightangel Bit rich when your user name is the oh-so-zany mega-lol tastic @pinkginhelps** I wish I was a bit rich. I never even win a free ticket on the lotto. Can I steal "Oh-so-zany mega-lol tastic from you"? It made me giggle. I do love pink gin and it does help (me) so I'll keep using my nom de plume. I love your username. I'm imagining a glamorous flight attendant wafting through the cabin on a longhaul night flight dispensing water and reassurance to weary travelers.

Having re-read the FB post this morning....I have found some positives. The lady has manners and did say please. I assume that's what PLZ is. She also resisted the temptation to ask the group to "hit her" or "spam her" with recommendations. I have also been informed by my teenager that everyone uses wanna when texting, messaging etc. She doesn't use FB as it's not cool. Don't worry, I didn't explain why I had asked her. I'm not teaching her my evil, judgy, grumpy ways. Her rationale for the use of wanna and similar words is that they are quicker to text. This led to a big conversation about how a word with one letter less can make a difference in typing speed. She pointed out that there is also no space. I have therefore concluded that the FB poster is much younger and cooler than me and must have a more exciting life as she needs to type very quickly so that she can get on with doing other stuff. She did receive lots of recommendations. I don't know if they are from friends, cousins or satisfied customers. I wander if a relaxing facial will make me a little less grumpy?

OP posts:
Pinkginhelps · 06/03/2020 06:46

Sorry....I wonder if a relaxing facial will make me a little less grumpy. I was sitting down as I had the thought.

OP posts:
ShesCurly · 06/03/2020 08:07

I'm trying not to be snarky in saying this OP but "PLZ " use paragraphs.

Today's blocks of text are snark inducing!

Grin
overnightangel · 06/03/2020 09:58

Ah touché @Pinkginhelps 😀
Overnight Angel is not as glamorous as you suggest but I like your interpretation!
It’s merely the name of an album by Ian Hunter (singer of Mott The Hoople), so pretty prosaic and obscure!
Just for that though can have “Oh-so-zany mega-lol tastic" tho, you’ve earned it Wink

longwayoff · 06/03/2020 10:44

'A bit common' Coughing? On facebook? Whatever can you mean? Have people mistaken it for Fortnum And Mason?

Pinkginhelps · 06/03/2020 12:00

@ShesCurly You are correct. I deserve some snarking for that. Apolz!

@overnightangel Thank you. I have managed to use it a couple of times already today to my boss who says things like "snazzy" in a not-ironic way. He's distinctly impressed.
Thank you for the musical education. In my mind, you remain the ever-glamorous hostie gliding serenely through the aisles . I hope you don't mind.

@MimiLaRue I promise I wasn't and still am not triggered. Not even irritated or even mildly annoyed. I confess, I'm now mildly ashamed of my irritation. Perhaps it was the awful weather yesterday. This sunshine (where I am), has put a whole new perspective on things. I'm struggling to feel irked by anything today.

@ShesCurly - I hope you are satisfied with my paragraphs? I'm trying - yes, I know I am.

This made me smile- thats the spirit! Grin

Hope you have a great day today- one that is irk- free

Pinkginhelps · 06/03/2020 12:12

@MimiLaRue that's the spirit A clever play on my username.

I hope you have a fabulous day too. I'm glad I made you smile.

AnotherMurkyDay · 06/03/2020 12:25

It's because only chavs and old people use Facebook these days. HTH hun

JesusInTheCabbageVan · 06/03/2020 12:27

Personally I prefer the full name, Facebook, to the rather crass abbreviation 'FB' you seem to favour Gin. Wink

Pinkginhelps · 06/03/2020 12:40

@JesusInTheCabbageVan Good point, well made. I had to read your post a few times. At first I thought you were putting my crassness down to my preference for gin. I was going to confess that I'm just as chavtastic on Prosecco...

Ginnyrellas · 06/03/2020 12:41

@Pinkginhelps I also get irked by this. Just use bloody google for Christ's sake! I don't think id ever have the bottle to write something snarky in response, However your responses on this thread have thoroughly made me chuckle. Genuis!
