To think Transformers is not a book

Come on, really?

Just call it Superhero and Disney Princess Day and have done with it.

OP posts:

No it's not a book but I think parents are under pressure to buy an expensive costume that's going to be worn once and many don't have time to make one.

sparepantsandtoothbrush · 05/03/2020 09:57

You can get Transformer books though? And some of the Disney Princesses were books before they were movies. Not sure I could get worked up about it. They'll be doing bookish stuff at school whilst dressed in something they feel comfortable in 🤷

Glitterblue · 05/03/2020 09:58

100% agree!

RufustheLanglovingreindeer · 05/03/2020 09:58

It is a book

Personally i think it should be a book first then a film

Too many books are produced following tv shows and films

RufustheLanglovingreindeer · 05/03/2020 10:00

Wait that doesnt make sense

I mean that i would prefer to dress my child in a costume from a book

Not a film that now has a book connected to it

And once school complained that too many children were coming to school in their own clothes with a prop...personally i think thats tough Grin

x2boys · 05/03/2020 10:02

And you are so concerned you have started two threads ???

Yesmate · 05/03/2020 10:03

So you feel so strongly about it you started two threads. Just let kids be kids. It’s a bit of fun

DameXanaduBramble · 05/03/2020 10:04

Yes, you said. 🙄

RufustheLanglovingreindeer · 05/03/2020 10:05

And you are so concerned you have started two threads ??

Thought i was going mad for a minute

Oh the relief

OddshoesOddsocks · 05/03/2020 10:37

7 years ago on dd1s first WBD I’d have agreed with you. Those who send their children in football kits/superhero costumes/princess dresses are lazy and sending the wrong message to the children. Why don’t they make the effort to pick a REAL book and make a costume?

However, this year dd1 (who detests dressing up) is wearing her own clothes with a prop and dd2 is wearing a princess dress. I’m very pregnant with dd3, not yet on maternity leave, on a budget and tbh all my efforts and energy went into convincing dd2 that rapunzel didn’t wear roller skates so she can’t wear hers. They’re happy and I couldn’t give a toss!

HeartyGreenSalad · 05/03/2020 11:17

They have made an effort thats enough

Olawisk · 05/03/2020 11:19

Does it actually matter ? Who cares!

TossACoinToYourWitcher · 05/03/2020 11:20

Don't be a snob! There are plenty of books inspired by children's cartoons and if it gets kids reading then all the better!

DustyMaiden · 05/03/2020 11:22

Looks like a book

To think Transformers is not a book

AlwaysCheddar · 05/03/2020 11:50

Who really gives a flying fuck?

LonginesPrime · 05/03/2020 11:52

Definitely report them to the school, OP.

Magpiefeather · 05/03/2020 11:54

Well, yes the books were a by-product of the movies, but if those are the books the kid likes to read, who cares?

Maybe that’s their route into reading and they’ll completely fall in love with books after reading about characters they love from TV and films?

AnIdiotNeedsHelp · 05/03/2020 12:06

Sooo...you had to start another thread???

SimonJT · 05/03/2020 12:07

We have a set of transformers books, they have words and everything.

namechangetheworld · 05/03/2020 12:13

Log it with 101 immediately OP. The bastards.

ShesGotBetteDavisEyes · 05/03/2020 13:02

I can’t believe someone would go to the trouble of starting a thread about this. Who cares?

Our school seemed to be split into three groups this morning - wizards, princesses and kids in onesies! I think people just really can’t be bothered with it any more. Would be much better to get them to take in a favourite book to read rather than seeing what outfit they have handy and then taking in a not-proper-book (ie cartoon annual, sticker book) to match it (and my child was one of the ones who wore a cartoon character onesie!)
WBD should be about encouraging reading - not dressing up.

Last year ds went in as an astronaut. The book he took with was factual book about space. This year he took his Star Wars book. This year school asked to wear pyjamas, no costumes.

LuckyLickitung · 05/03/2020 13:22

If you can take in a book/comic on that theme, it's fair game.

My autistic, dyslexic DS is not a great reader and loathes fancy dress. His usual response is to wear his usual Lego/ Minecraft t-shirts and take in a handbook for that topic. It's a book he reads for pleasure, and that's a win in my book Wink
