Please settle an argument! So, tissue left in trouser pocket and put in family wash basket. Trousers get bunged into washer/dryer and the inevitable happens. Is the blame with the trouser owner for not checking or the person doing the washing for not checking?

Equal blame!!

Thatsmyspot · 05/03/2020 09:37

Trouser wearer should check pockets first, and while we're at it, not put socks in the wash basket all balled up as well!

HopeYouStepOnALego · 05/03/2020 09:45

I would blame the trouser wearer too if they'd put the item in the wash basket. I may be the one who puts on the laundry, but it's not my responsibility to empty pockets. My only exception would be where I've picked up something to wash that hadn't been put in the wash by the wearer (ie my DD2 who tends to leave her dirty clothes on her bedroom floor!)

Pootles34 · 05/03/2020 09:50

Another one for equal blame! I would always check when doing laundry, but if someone else is doing your laundry you can't really get narky can you?!

sunshineandlollypops · 05/03/2020 10:00

Trouser wearer.

BruceAndNosh · 05/03/2020 10:03

In my house the blame is all mine as I am invariably both the tissue Leaver and the non checker

nornironrock · 05/03/2020 10:04

The trouser wearer.

The washer is the person doing the work. If you don't help out by emptying pockets, unballing socks etc, you're just being a twat.

Sparklfairy · 05/03/2020 10:04

If you're lucky enough to have your laundry done for you the least you can do is check the fucking pockets.

stuntbanana · 05/03/2020 10:06

My DP has on occasion left a badge on his shirt that's gone through the wash leaving tiny but still noticeable pin pricks on almost every item in the wash aaaarg

mynameiscalypso · 05/03/2020 10:07

Definitely the trouser wearer. The person doing the washing shouldn't have to wade through pockets stuffed with potentially dirty tissues 🤢

Gatehouse77 · 05/03/2020 10:07

Trouser wearer's at fault.

I expect what goes into the basket to be checked by the owner.
Getting them to pick it all off and sweep/hoover usually stops repeat offences.
I've also found that 20 minutes in the tumble dryer gets most of it off.

Windyatthebeach · 05/03/2020 10:07

As the Laundry Lady my dc/dh know I accept no responsibility for items left in/damaged by washing.
Oh and I claim any found coins in the drum too...
Perks of the job imo.

Disfordarkchocolate · 05/03/2020 10:08

If you are old enough to blow your own nose you are old enough to check your own pockets for tissue.

Solve the problem by buying some proper hankies.

mumwon · 05/03/2020 10:20

Nooo hankies! Corona!!! I actually think they are dirty things anyway
turn trousers inside out that way you can fell if the -idiot- person has left any inside without touching gross things but the problem is if they are up sleeves!

userabcname · 05/03/2020 10:26

I once washed (and broke obvs) DH's phone which was in his trouser pocket. I felt awful and apologised but he just laughed and said he should've checked. It wasn't a big deal. So I guess both to blame in a way? But no need to fall out.

DorisDances · 05/03/2020 10:30

Yes, we all usually use fabric hankies so a rogue tissue crept in!

Straycatstrut · 05/03/2020 10:31

Trouser wearer if they're an adult getting their clothes washed for them!

I didn't check in my 3yos trousers and it happened here. Nightmare. My fault in this case.

fairydustandpixies · 05/03/2020 10:32

Depends if I'm the trouser wearing who is not putting the laundry on or the person putting the laundry on and not checking pockets... Grin

BlingLoving · 05/03/2020 10:33

I would definitely say trouser wearer.

However, I think this is something that has changed. I have this vague idea that when being "taught" to do laundry, I was taught to always check pockets etc to make sure nothing valuable/that would ruin the washing was included. So I think it would have been considered the washer's (woman, obviously) responsibility.

40 odd years later my view is that I'm the one washing it, I'm not the person who has to police everyone else so they must sort their own pockets out.

Louise91417 · 05/03/2020 10:34

As main washing skivvy in my house i always blame the fecker thats wore the clothes...Angry

RubbishRobotFromTheDawnOfTime · 05/03/2020 10:35

Blame lies with trouser owner. Stuff put in laundry basket is to be considered laundry-ready.

WestCovina · 05/03/2020 10:35

Definitely the wearer. I do all the washing and there’s no way I’d been checking all the pockets!

RubbishRobotFromTheDawnOfTime · 05/03/2020 10:36

If I find DH’s rolled-up clothes in there, like short sleeves rolled up tightly, the shirt doesn’t get washed.

SageRosemary · 05/03/2020 10:39

Surely the Laundry Fairy checks all pockets, does up all zips, shakes out the balled up socks, turns all the t-shirts with logos inside out, puts extra knots in the hoodies so the cord won't go on its own little holiday and all this before carefully separating laundry into darks, colours, whites, delicate, spot cleans and uses mesh laundry bags where appropriate. Smile Like, she's a Laundry Fairy and has nothing else to do! Hmm

Fantastic laundry fairy in this house who regularly gives out to the family for failing to do all of the above. Angry

The responsibility lies with the person who place the item in the laundry basket IMHO

thirstyformore · 05/03/2020 11:02

Trouser wearer!
