I have just turned 44 and honestly feel about 80 right now. I have 2 pre teenagers and have been on anti depressants for a year which has helped a lot but my energy levels are rubbish and often feel unwell. I’m due a colonoscopy next week which I’m feeling really stressed about. I have a friend the same age as me who is expecting twins soon, who works full time, has 2 teenagers and looks about 25. If you look young for your age and have lots of energy what is your secret? I’m slim and take some exercise but could do more. My diet is not too bad either.

Lots of exercise, lots of sleep, eat loads of veggies and fruit, only drink on nights out and work part time. I'm 46 and feel and look younger. I think having a young vibe helps, I maintain an outdoor hobby I've done since I was 12, and love life.

Vitamin D should help you feel better as some anti-depressants can make you go deficient. Drink more water. Get tested for any deficiencies too

  1. SlimmingWorld. Lost 5 stone now a healthy weight. Eating well lots of protein and veg. Little alcohol. Walk outside with dog at least hour a day.

@DirtyRotter
Thanks for that, I hadn’t heard of it but will look into it.
I use high doses and only buy from two well-known High Street shops. I have tried to buy cheaper options but didn’t find them so effective.

I don’t have lunch unless I have to because it is an organised meal (eating out with family or work or visiting someone) because it makes me sleepy. I don’t graze on food during the day and eat a weird breakfast based on what I feel like (nothing, or porridge or raw vegetables or very concentrated bone broth). Zero alcohol. Too many coffees. Lots of water and herbal tea. No diets and only eating when hungry. Lots of walking in fresh air (I think this helps me free my mind so I don’t get overwhelmed which indirectly helps with using my energy in an efficient way). I swear not having lunch and no snacking is the best thing for me in terms of energy. And there’s a lot to be said about not having a full mind with little worries and nagging problems, so getting little issues ironed out as soon as they appear does help. It’s been like this all my adult life.

I’m gluten free, try to limit sugar to weekends. (Don’t always manage!) I eat a tonne of vegetables, a little organic red meat. I drink odd glass of red wine and that’s it. I exercise a lot but use yoga to manage my stress levels. I’m horrifically busy. I’m also exceedingly dull!!!!

I supplement magnesium and vitamin d. I take B vits (methylated form). Some choline.

I have pretty good energy levels given my business. Have a tendency to do too much!

Have a baby at 44 and mix that in with 2 teenage boys 😂. I don’t take any vitamins, don’t smoke, rarely drink, don’t eat bread, no caffeine, exercise and walk.

malloo · 04/03/2020 23:37

Yoga! And walk everywhere. No meat but plenty veg and fish, dark chocolate every day, glass of wine in the evening. Plenty of energy, I'm 45. Would have even more if I got enough sleep instead of arsing about on mumsnet at this time of night.

Smile vikingness

I wasn’t going to mention the side order of that. Goes nicely with my huge, organic salad.

Concentrate on exercise, diet helps but it's mainly how active you are. Cycling is good as it's low impact.

51 here, I eat 6 or more portions of fruit and veg a day, no caffeine or decaf, only herbal tea, drink between 2 and 6 units of alcohol a week, weekly steam room and sauna sessions, at least weekly social with one if my girlfriends, regular orgasms. It all seems to be working ok for me.
