Your gas and electric - how much?

NC4Now · 02/03/2020 00:29

I moved to a 3 bed terrace last year. Band B council tax. We started at £99 month for gas and electric but I fell behind. Now we’re on £149 but I’m still cold, often.
How much does it cosy to keep a cosy home? I’m living under sofa blankets here.

Three bed terrace. All electric. I pay £125 a month. My usage this past couple of months has been above £200 - and I'm often cold!

Cooloncraze · 02/03/2020 07:14

£48 per month for gas and electric with Bulb. I have the heating on a lot as I work from home. It is a small 2 bed terraced house though which helps.

cornstarch · 02/03/2020 07:17

£150 a month. 5 bed detached, includes a hot tub which is expensive to run

PleasantVille · 02/03/2020 07:17

There are 2 things to do to get the cheapest bills first make sure you are on the lowest tariff you can get and reduce your usage.

Assuming your meters are working properly this will lead to the lowest amount of £££ paid, asking other people tells you nothing, it's not something you can get any kind of meaningful information from.

Firelink · 02/03/2020 07:19

We moved to Utility Warehouse pay £247 a month for phone, broadband, gas & electric. Previously paying just that for electric and gas only.

Lipperfromchipper · 02/03/2020 07:30

€50-80 per month but that is our only energy bill. No gas bill or other heating costs. 3/4 bed new build.

PleasantVille · 02/03/2020 07:35

@Firelink to me tha sounds like a huge amount but baring in mind my previous post maybe you could post your pence per kWh, your daily standing charge and what you get in your phone and broadband packages as an example so we can see how good a deal it is.

A figure on its own tells us nothing.

PurpleFlower1983 · 02/03/2020 07:38

£130 a month, 4 bed Victorian end terrace. It was £170 when we had to catch up a bit. Old houses are cold! We looked at a few new builds just being nosy and their 4 beds averaged £80 a month.

Teenangels · 02/03/2020 07:38

I have a 1920 bungalow no wall installation and pay £140 every month, no one at home during the day and I hate being cold.... I have a smart meter and we are using about £6 worth of gas a day at the moment and we live in the SE,

PurpleFlower1983 · 02/03/2020 07:39

@Firelink Wow that’s pricey! Unless it includes Sky or you love in a very big old house.

TheTrollFairy · 02/03/2020 07:45

£80ish a month at the moment. We are mid terraced though so I think they are slightly warmer anyway?
I use a dishwasher, washing machine and tumble dryer all about 5x a week and heating is on about 3.5hrs per day (more when we are home at the weekend)

chesterfuckingdrorrs · 02/03/2020 07:47

3bed, end terrace-7 years old. £50pm for both gas and electricity.

We were paying £89pm. I switched after reading the Martin Lewis money saving expert website.

SpiltMilk100 · 02/03/2020 07:51

Large 3 bed semi. Been paying £85 for both gas and electric for the past year. We've just renewed our plan with the same supplier and it's gone down to £62 as we have been in credit every month and have even been refunded £200. We regularly use a tumble dryer and have the heating come on automatically when the temp drops in the night. I'm home 2 days during the week too so not like we're out all day every day except weekends.

inicecoldblood · 02/03/2020 07:53

Four bed detached house £90 for both, £60 gas and £30 electric.

toomuchpeppapig · 02/03/2020 07:59

3 bed semi with heating on 24/7 for 6 months of the year, home all day with dc and we pay £90 per month for gas and electric. Was with Scottish power paying £90 and just changed to Green Energy where they reckon £80 will cover it. We won't know until after the summer when it gets calculated again though.....

Hercwasonaroll · 02/03/2020 08:02

£70 per month through the year, obviously gas usage in the summer is very low but this evens out our winter. 3 bed detached 1980s house. Currently at home a lot in the day but have heating set at 18 when home.

DonnaDarko · 02/03/2020 08:03

We're in a 3 bed terrace and I work from home but our bill is 94 per month and were actually using more like 85. We're with bulb. Have you considered switching?

The heating goes on in the morning and the evening for a couple of hours only. My partner prefers cooler rooms whereas I prefer to be warm, but I just make sure I always have a comfy hoodie on.

ThePants999 · 02/03/2020 08:06

4-bed detached, £140/month with Bulb. We're profligate energy users, central heating on high and multiple air conditioning units.

iusedtohavechickens · 02/03/2020 08:17

195 a month for electric and £165 a month for gas for a semi detached 6 bed house

Runnerduck34 · 02/03/2020 08:17

Mine is high too, just electricity is £95 a month, no gas here so can't have dual fuel tariffs.
4bed 1920s semi , family of 6 and DH WFH .

YappityYapYap · 02/03/2020 08:21

2 bed end terrace. About £110 a month in winter and £70 a month in summer (for both). Spring and Autumn are about £80 a month

GrockleRock · 02/03/2020 08:25

2 bed new build, £50 a month for gas & elec altogether. I give a meter reading on the 1st of every month.

Dishwasher on daily. Washing machine x 4 weekly.
Shower, baths, twice daily.

1 adult. 1 DC though.

Gemm83 · 02/03/2020 08:30

2 bed terrace. Currently paying £112 but was paying £58. My previous provider changed companies and were not accepting my meter readings and when they did it put me £300 in debit! Currently standing at £309 in debit, but hoping to make that back over spring and summer.

WalkingDeadTrainee · 02/03/2020 08:34

Depends, isn't it.
Is your house insulated? Do you have proper radiators per size of a room? Id there air in the radiators? Is your boiler ok? Do you have draughty windows or doors? Do you use thermostat or timer? Is house occupied only part of a day or all day? What temperature you like it to be? And so on...

Electric 45, Gas 45 at the moment, but I was moved onto expensive variable tariff. 3 bed end terrace.
