Would you travel within the UK at the moment?

We are due to travel from the north west to see family in Edinburgh, on 12 March. We had planned to go by train. I think we should cancel and not go because of Corona, husband thinks I am being dramatic and overreacting massively. What would you do?

I am very anxious a lot of the time so will accept I might be being ridiculous!

SnowyPetals · 01/03/2020 16:17

Of course I would still go.

Thymelord · 01/03/2020 16:17

I think I need to step away from the news then!

AnyFucker · 01/03/2020 16:18

You are being dramatic and over reacting

adaline · 01/03/2020 16:25

Yep, it wouldn't even occur to me not to travel!

I would only stop if government guidelines changed.

fairlyplump · 01/03/2020 16:26

Just done last minute booking to Miami, there isn't an apocalypse !

JinglingHellsBells · 01/03/2020 16:26

If you are worried, take hand gel or something to wipe your hands with (anti bac wipes) and use them frequently on the journey. Don't put your hands nr your face ( incl eyes and nose and mouth) and wash your hands thoroughly if poss in the toilets , and as soon as you get off the train. The other risk is people who have it - even if no symptoms yet- sneezing on you. I'd move seats if possible if it was obvious someone was unwell.

OR- go by car?

Laiste · 01/03/2020 16:26

My inlaws are about to visit their eldest DS up in scotland (traveling from london). Normally they would fly, but have decided to hire a car and drive instead specifically because of clovid worries.

Aridane · 01/03/2020 16:26

husband thinks I am being dramatic and overreacting massively

I agree with husband

Thedogscollar · 01/03/2020 16:27

100% go. I'm flying up in April wouldn't even think not to. Enjoy it's a beautiful city.

ChicCroissant · 01/03/2020 16:29

Is it just Scotland that you wouldn't travel to OP, or is there anywhere locally? Because it's always a bit hard to understand why someone would say it's not safe to travel a distance yet they are happy to go to the shops on their doorstep for instance.

penguinsonaslide · 01/03/2020 16:30

No, my family and I will not be going anywhere we don't have to for the forseeable future.

penguinsonaslide · 01/03/2020 16:31

And I certainly wouldn't be going abroad for a while, purely because the risk of quarantine is too high and I do not want to be stuck in a hotel room for 2 weeks.

Thymelord · 01/03/2020 16:31

ChicCroissant To be honest, I don't want to go anywhere at the moment. I have to go to work, but I haven't been anywhere else in the last few days. I do recognise that I'm not being rational. I have general anxiety disorder and am having a bad time of it with this virus being in the news 24/7.

OP posts:
Aridane · 01/03/2020 16:31

So, @penguinsonaslide, will you go to the supermarket?

penguinsonaslide · 01/03/2020 16:32

So, @penguinsonaslide, will you go to the supermarket?

I never do, all my shopping is done online.

Jellykat · 01/03/2020 16:32

God i hope people dont stop travelling!
My livelihood is completely tourist dependant, as is almost everyones around here.

AdoptedBumpkin · 01/03/2020 16:33

I would, can't put everything on hold for weeks/months.

bengalcat · 01/03/2020 16:36

I’m with your husband on this one and go . I use tube / train and bus to travel to work and leisure at weekends . Flying to the Alps in three weeks then have arranged to go to a show in Strasbourg on way back so will getting train/s from Geneva to Strasbourg then Eurostar back to the UK . Flying to Edinburgh on a work related thing mid April . I’ve no plans to change anything .

oncemorewithfeeling99 · 01/03/2020 16:36

The thought wouldn’t occur to me to cancel. I’m just going about life as normal and so is everyone else around me. We have holidays and trips planned within the UK that (unless there is some very dramatic change) we will be going on.

oncemorewithfeeling99 · 01/03/2020 16:38

Just seen your last post OP. Honestly you should entirely stop watching/reading the news. It’s obviously acting as a trigger. Perhaps get your husband to let you know if any advice changes but do it as a lent challenge! You’ll feel much happier and calmer I’m sure.

ThroughThickAndThin01 · 01/03/2020 16:38

Of course you should travel within the UK! Honestly, the hysteria is just ridiculous.

VeniceBeach · 01/03/2020 16:41

Also going from NW England to Edinburgh around the same time! I did wonder about not travelling, however I get the bus to work and have a job where where I probably come into contact with 2-300 different people a week so travelling by train won’t be any more risky.

PianoTuner567 · 01/03/2020 16:41

I’ve just booked two trips, one in the UK and one in Europe. I travel by train and tube every day. It wouldn’t even occur to me to do anything else.

Stop reading the news and look outside your front door - everything is completely normal.

DesLynamsMoustache · 01/03/2020 16:44

Yes, we are off to Northumberland for a week next week and it hadn't crossed my mind not to!

vampirethriller · 01/03/2020 16:46

Yes. Wouldn't think twice about it
