Call police or not???

So my neighbour has been disqualified for drink driving twice in last 4 years

Most recent incident was week before Xmas 2019 he crashed on a main road and no one else involved

I drive pretty slow - just met him on a narrow road going. Well above speed limit - he saw me and swerved suddenly just avoiding a collision

Do I call police? Can't really prove much but he is disqualified and I am sick of this behaviour

Sorry in advance for posting in aibu
Didn't know where else to put this

yes

LouLouLoo · 01/03/2020 14:41

Yes

mummymeister · 01/03/2020 14:43

Please call the Police. Please. too many people dont bother and then there is an accident sometime down the line and because they are decent people like you they feel terribly guilty. The Police rely on us to be their eyes and ears "policing with consent"

If he is disqualified they may ask you for a statement so its worth making a contempraneous note now of the date, time, where you were, what you saw etc. signing, dating and putting the time on it.

BigFatLiar · 01/03/2020 15:02

Do you know his car registration? I doubt they can do much unless they catch him but at least they can be aware of where he's likely to be and may have a traffic unit in the area.

looondonn · 01/03/2020 15:06

No that's the problem it happened so quickly

He is disqualified as of dec 2019

Call the police and pass on what information you have. They can decide what to do with the information.

CornishPorsche · 01/03/2020 15:07

Call them. Even if you don't know the registration.

They may not get him today, but any intelligence they receive about a disqualified and often drinking driver is useful. They can keep an eye out for him.

Ex copper - I assure you this is useful info to the police. Any info you can give - name, address, car description etc is plenty.

looondonn · 01/03/2020 15:08

Ok will do

Total disgrace
He spends most weekends in pub so not sure if he was even sober
His driving was so erratic

Thank you

He crashed on a main busy road just three months ago

What the hell is wrong with people

TheReluctantCountess · 01/03/2020 15:11

Yes do ring them.

dontgobaconmyheart · 01/03/2020 15:12

Absolutely OP, can't think why you wouldn't. Give them the registration details if you can- perhaps ANPR can pick him up having driven on a different road. What an idiot he is.

looondonn · 01/03/2020 15:13

Of course I am going to I guess I am wondering where it will go to with limited info
I have his name
Make of car
Colour

Police can deal with him

OP posts:
BusterMove · 01/03/2020 15:14

Can you call them next time you see him drive away? Then they can alert all patrols and hopefully stop him.

PurpleDaisies · 01/03/2020 15:16

Yes, report.

TheBouquets · 01/03/2020 15:17

Police will be able to access a lot of information already re his disqualification. If you know the make of his car they ma be able to trace the registration number.
Drunk driving is something the police actually take action on.

CornishPorsche · 01/03/2020 15:18

That's plenty OP - police have the skills and knowledge to be able to look into who he is and get the details of his car registration through DVLA databases etc.

TreeTopTim · 01/03/2020 15:21

Definitely without hesitation. I did the same a few years ago. Only had partial plate. I have no regrets and would do it again in a heartbeat.

LizB62A · 01/03/2020 15:25

I'd have no hesitation in shopping him to the police.
Imagine how awful you'd feel if you said nothing and then he causes an accident

looondonn · 01/03/2020 15:29

Thank you guys

Did it anonymously online (NI )
Took less than 5 mins

Many thanks
If I see him again will call police it is just not ok
Plus many times he was been reported by neighbours as being drunk behind the wheel since disqualification

Maybe it is also the wake up call he needs to get help? :(

OP posts:
HuggedTheRedwoods · 01/03/2020 15:31

You've definitely done the right thing. Maybe he does need a wake up call (although previous bans suggests he's past that point) but its the other innocent road users need protecting from him.

HermioneWeasley · 01/03/2020 15:41

Well done. I am still in daily pain from an accident with a drunk driver

looondonn · 01/03/2020 15:41

Luckily I was going really slow 10 mph it was a narrow wet road

He will hopefully learn from this
Who knows

OP posts:
itsgettingweird · 01/03/2020 15:42

Agree to report. If still banned he's in loads of trouble and if allowed to drive again it builds up a case.

looondonn · 01/03/2020 15:42

Hermoine
So sorry !!

It is very common where I live
Enough is enough

Hope you are coping ok?

OP posts:
looondonn · 01/03/2020 15:45

He is banned
I read it in local newspaper short while back
