Mouth ulcer from hell

When I'm sick or run down I tend to get mouth ulcers. They can be quite bad and make me feel generally headachey, tired and unwell. Right now I have two on my lip that have sort of joined together into one mega mouth ulcer. Because it's on the edge of my lip/mouth it is quite visible when I talk and not only is it causing me big discomfort but I'm paranoid about how it looks now too.

Any advice on how make it disappear quickly? Bonjela and the like do very little to help. I've heard dabbing salt directly onto them can help. I even tried a drop of neat gin as I thought the high alcohol content might help. It's only been a few days but it's driving me mad!

Iglu was amazing when I caught hand, foot and mouth from DD over Christmas. My entire tongue was coated in sores but Iglu really reduced the pain. It does feel really weird but it was far superior to Bonjela or Difflam spray.

My sister used to get them loads, all these remedy names ring a bell!

@Growingboys You're welcome. Expensive to import, but worth every penny!
@Squidgyflump Order Kenalog from Australia online. You will not regret it.

@weeklycubrun Yes, adcortyl in orobase is a miraculous little cream. Nothing else works for me

If you can't go anywhere at the moment, bicarbonate of soda dabbed on can help if you've got nothing else

Folic acid has helped hugely with mine

You can get hydrocortisone tablets from Boots - I've used them since I was little because I've always had very bad ulcers (17 at a time sort of thing). The brand used to be Corlan, but they're generic now.

They're called hydrocortisone muco-adhesive buccal tablets. They speed up healing for me hugely.

I used to suffer mouth ulcers and Anbesol is the best. Hurts but numbs the pain quickly and helps heal.

If nothing else has worked try a strong black tea bag. wet it. chill it. place it on the sore. The Tannins help

I used to get periods of multiple severe ulcers, I always used Oraldene mouthwash in addition to a numbing & healing topical gel. The mouthwash isn't pleasant, it tastes weird & it affects many people's tastebuds for a few days (you will probably lose most of your sense of taste) but it really helps. Big improvement in healing time, I always used to have a bottle in the house. TBH, the taste loss was never an issue as I couldn't bear to eat anyway, too painful.

I agree, iglu is disgusting, it's very effective but only if the ulcer is somewhere you can be confident the nasty gluey paste won't come off for a while. Otherwise, anbesol was always my next best choice. The lip is probably not the best place for iglu, it moves about too much.

Yes @weeklycubrun I was addicted to that Adcortyl in Orabase stuff til it was stopped - my pharmacist told me it was because it contained a steroid (?)

When I could no longer get it I became obsessed by googling and that's how I discovered Kenalog which is basically the same stuff.

Didn't know you could also get it in the far east - will ask friends next time they go, corona notwithstanding!
