To think ITV are just plain fucking stupid for this?

Jeremy Kyle is returning to ITV, format of the show yet unknown, but his representative confirmed today he will be coming back on a new show “to have his say”.

Given the show was taken off air in the first place due to a suicide and bullying claims, not to mention the Love Island suicides and Caprice recently slamming the channel for the lack of aftercare provided to her after she quit Dancing on Ice, who on Earth in that company thinks that this is a good idea?

Fucking hell.

Yanbu OP!

BarkandCheese · 27/02/2020 16:23

I see your POV, but ITV aren’t a public service they’re a commercial endeavour and they can put more or less what they like on their channels if they think it’ll bring in viewers.

APatchyTomCat · 27/02/2020 16:24

I stopped watching a long time ago, when I realised that I was siding with all the violent, cheating druggies just because Kyle was such a twat.

SinglePringle · 27/02/2020 16:25

Plus ITV have already paid Kyles fee (which is separate to the prod company fee) so they NEED to have him on the telly. Also, ITV are, in this instance the company that make the series (well, ITV productions are, as opposed to ITV the broadcaster).

They pay the production company in advance of the series being made (it’s not made by the producing company and the put out to tender / up for sale) so again, they are already invested in it being a success. They’ll work hard to ensure the figures are good. Positive advertising, change in format, lots of positive press etc).

JaneJeffer · 27/02/2020 16:26

Caprice recently slamming the channel for the lack of aftercare provided to her after she quit Dancing on Ice,
It's Hamish who needs aftercare from dealing with her!

JuanSheetIsPlenty · 27/02/2020 16:27

ITV participated in the Schofield 'coming out' palaver. That tells you everything you need to know about them. There isn't anything they won't do for money or men of a certain age

^yep.

winniethekid · 27/02/2020 16:27

Morally, not much separates the mail, ITV and the sun.

Fairypiggy · 27/02/2020 16:29

@spongeandcustard I used to like listening to Jezzas confessions on BRMB. Didn’t know about him faking content, that’s shocking. I suppose that was in times before internet news.

Why shouldnt JK be back on T.V ? Ant McPartlin, is back on prime time t.v with people's blessings, he is an ex alcoholic druggie who drove whilst under the influence of both alcohol and drugand crashed into another car that was carrying children, luckily the werent seriously hurt or killed. He is a cheat and a liar. If he can break the law and be welcomed back why shouldnt someone who hasnt broken the law be bannished for ever ?
That's very unfair. There's no comparison between JK and AMcP which I think is the point you were trying to make but, honestly, calling someone out by name like that is extremely low. Ant went through a terribly bad patch - you could say he experienced the abyss, something we read about sometimes here on MN - but he paid for his sins and rehabilitated himself which I think is good. Not one of us is perfect.

I didn't like the JK show, only watched bits of it on occasion but he committed no crime with his salacious programme; hopefully his new thing will be less contentious. Good luck to him.

There should be a space or a line between the quotation in my post and where I started. Sorry.

Aderyn19 · 27/02/2020 16:33

ITV are currently the biggest argument in favour of keeping a compulsory TV licence for the BBC. Love Island, This Morning, Jeremy Kyle show - all utter bilge!

However, I am going to defend him slightly in that ITV commissioned his show (amongst all the other hideous shit they produce) and are more to blame than the presenter for the horrible results. Also if people didn't watch it, it wouldn't get made.
ITV imo are the tv equivalent of Twitter at its lowest

RocketFire · 27/02/2020 16:34

dont watch it then op?

its up to the rest of us if we will watch orn to.....i had no idea he was coming back til i read this thread

all you've done is spread the word for him

Patroclus · 27/02/2020 16:36

Never underestimate people's (brexiter's) capacity for thinking a man shouting about things he doesnt understand with an aggressive edge and a bit of cringeworthy outdated slang added is some sort of genius.

lazylinguist · 27/02/2020 16:37

AftercareHmm If people don't want the public attention (which any simpleton knows can go from adoring to brutal in no time), then they shouldn't sign up for awful, vacuous reality shows! As long as people watch this shit on tv, people will keep making it.

TheMemoryLingers · 27/02/2020 16:39

This is essentially the same as The News of The World coming back as The Sun on Sunday.

Aderyn19 · 27/02/2020 16:41

Patroclus, stop being a twat.

Namechange8471 · 27/02/2020 16:49

Also can’t stand the twat!
Also agree with pp about Ant Mcpartlin, who seems to have got away with being a twat 🙄

SilverySurfer · 27/02/2020 17:01

I agree with Rocketfire If you don't like him don't watch him. I know of him but have managed quite easily never to have seen one of his shows. It's not rocket science is it.

bmbonanza · 27/02/2020 17:05

The people who come on it do so from choice, so if people want to be on it and watch it then fine. Its not the shows fault that people make bad decisions. A lot of the other stuff is worse.

Sagradafamiliar · 27/02/2020 17:10

What a foul, foul individual he is. I hope his new show gets scrapped.

PineappleDanish · 27/02/2020 17:15

He's popular. People watch him. ITV is a commercial organisation which obviously thinks that he will draw in the viewers.

Save your revulsion for the numpties who watch his show.

Straycatstrut · 27/02/2020 17:16

I think it's dirty and shameful of them. It'll be advertised every few minutes soon (with all the charitable stuff and "behind the scenes support teams" heavily focused on) and it'll get a HUGE audience and get people talking all over the socials. Jezza will be in his element over all the attention. It makes total sense for them to do it.

ITV protect "their own". Same as the BBC, Hollywood, the Government and all the shameful stuff that goes in between all of them....etc etc... not surprising at all.

pussycatinboots · 27/02/2020 17:17

Jeremy Kyle
Ant (or Dec)
Piers Morgan

There's a really empty barrel somewhere!

Starlight456 · 27/02/2020 17:25

I don't believe it should ever have been taken off for the reasons it did...

However I did think it had its day and was done to death..

MitziK · 27/02/2020 17:25

I disagree.

They protect their men.

Women can fuck right off if they do something stupid, offensive, embarrassing, unpleasant or in any way wrong. But if a man does something twenty times worse, other than in extreme circumstances (like when there are a hundred women and, more likely, their high value husbands, saying 'this happened'), forget it. It's just rumours, just jealousy, just politics, just an error of judgement.
