To think that daffodils are a bit thick really?

Six inches of snow, and there they are, poking their heads through, in full bloom. Clearly they will have frozen in no time. Is it asking too much to expect them to think it through?

OP posts:
kateandme · 27/02/2020 12:39

i love them.
but yes very very silly.
but maybe they love it.
like the norwegians skiing peerfectly warm, laughing at us freezing our tits off and crying about it.

BoreOfWhabylon · 27/02/2020 12:40

Snowdrops are just victims of nominative determinism.

@KittenVsBox

Only a few daffs here, but 100s of crocuses and snowdrops.

Why aren't they daft as well?

Well snowdrops are a WINTER flower for a start, and the little crocuses always bloom in Feb .. as the OP, probably being influenced/led on by the daffodils!

A serious sense-of-humour by pass from several posters on here today! Confused

faracrossthepond · 27/02/2020 12:42

@sarahjconnor

Not as stupid as my hens who think that a full blown gale/flood/snow is the perfect time to build a fucking nest and brood eggs. Morons. And yes, the chicks and mothers will be brought inside like the spoiled little bitches they are. Ffs.

Aw, I just love daffs. My favourite flower.

We have them in all the grass verges where I live and every year they get trashed by morons knocking the heads off. Makes me sad ☹️

Typical of trade unions - one out, all out, and the sympathy strikers (which I thought was illegal) . And now the blue tits as flying picket /peckers.
Its a revolution!

For the benefit of those with a SOHF - Its a joke!

faracrossthepond · 27/02/2020 12:45

Ooops, posted the same post twice. Sorry. Blush No idea how I did that.

QuimReaper · 27/02/2020 12:47

@sarahjconnor Errr, you're calling a hen a "bitch"? As in, a vulgar term for a demanding or unkind female?! Confused

ContessaferJones · 27/02/2020 12:47

I am annoyed with my daffs for flowering well before mothers day. My one request each year is for some daffs from the garden, and they'll be dead and sad by then at this rate.

pigsDOfly · 27/02/2020 12:51

My gran always described daffs as "brave".

That's so sweet. I love the idea of these jolly little flowers braving the elements to bring us a bit of late winter, early spring cheer with their gaudy yellow heads.

They're out all over the place here and they're lovely.

I've never stopped to chat, but I imagine they're not terribly bright.

RB68 · 27/02/2020 12:54

I am enjoying my snowdrops and daffs in the garden despite snow yesterday (didn't hang around too wet) and have just added a bunch of daffs to my shopping list. They are not grown indoors - they are outdoors usually in fields in the Peterborough and North area - not sure we will have any next year though as its all eastern european pickers out in this weather picking on piece work

faracrossthepond · 27/02/2020 13:01

@QuimReaper

I know right! What is @sarahjconnor like. Those poor, misunderstood wee hens. Anyone got the number of RSPCH? (Royal Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Hens?) Grin

tenlittlecygnets · 27/02/2020 13:03

Yeah, they are insane!

But not as stupid as frogs. They lay frogspawn every year right before the big freeze and their spawn freezes. How stupid is that?!

Sgtmajormummy · 27/02/2020 13:05

DM was a champion daffodil grower. She used to dig up the clumps and divide them so they’d spread even more. Kids from the Sunday School would be invited round to pick them on Mothering Sunday.
Gone four years yesterday. I’ll be wearing my daft-odil with pride on Sunday.

SoundofSilence · 27/02/2020 13:07

My garden roll call.

Daffodils: "Here, but could have done with a snack. And a sunnier position would be good. Listen, you get what you put in, okay?"
Crocuses: "Here and fabulous! The daffs are just a bunch of lightweights."
Chionodoxa: "Working on it boss, flowers might be a while, depends on how long the parts take to arrive."
Snowdrops: "Me and Tom are here, we don't know where the others are. But I'll tell you something for nothing, your giant dog pisses where you planted Harry and his mates Every. Single. Day. I'm not saying it's related but...."
Bluebells: "Fuck off and leave us alone."

Jaxhog · 27/02/2020 13:11

I'm always happy to support the optimistic. Especially as it doesn't seem to do them any harm - they'll be back next year.

OkMaybeNot · 27/02/2020 13:13

Yanbu. Plonkers.

dementedma · 27/02/2020 13:14

love the idea of daffs being thick. They strike me as silly air-head types who just don't think about being sensible.

The snowdrops are brave wee things, but more discrete and less showy.
At a party the daffs would be drunk and shrieking as they clattered about in bright outfits, the snowdrops would be alone or in small quiet groups in the corners tutting quietly.

No daffs out here in Central Scotland but the crocuses are raising a cautious hand.

Thinkingabout1t · 27/02/2020 13:15

Is this why we call silly people a “bit daffy”?

I love their crazy optimism, though.

BlackCatSleeping · 27/02/2020 13:23

I think we are the thick ones. Fucking the planet and ruining the climate, yet we just can't stop.

butterpuffed · 27/02/2020 13:25

The ones hereabouts are daffinately brave, they're standing daffiantly above the snow.

wink1970 · 27/02/2020 13:34

and narcissism really

I see what you did there! Smile

God can't anyone be witty/pithy/ironic/frivolous any more on MN without people a) not getting the joke b) wading in with a cold bucket to throw all over it.

Cutted up Pear would have never been treated like this.

ShesGotBetteDavisEyes · 27/02/2020 13:43

I love seeing them, and crocuses - my grandad called them Daffydowndillys!

There’s a little patch of narcissus growing on the way to school and every day this week dd has said “look at those pretty flowers mum!” Aw.
