To think that daffodils are a bit thick really?

Six inches of snow, and there they are, poking their heads through, in full bloom. Clearly they will have frozen in no time. Is it asking too much to expect them to think it through?

We had snow here but the ground was so wet it didnt settle, so happy Daffs we have.

UtterlyUnimaginativeUsername · 27/02/2020 12:14

They're adapted to handle it. They evolved to bloom early in the year to get the spring sunshine before the tree canopy fills in again. If they waited till better weather, they'd be in the shade.

They're pretty clever actually.

CheesyWeez · 27/02/2020 12:14

My gran always described daffs as "brave".

All mine have been flowering in the garden for a week, no snow here yet. (In the Chilterns)

KC225 · 27/02/2020 12:15

I've never seen one on University Challenge or Question Time.

Hingeandbracket · 27/02/2020 12:16

Not daft - different varieties - but I shouldn't let that spoil the fun :)

Frothybothie · 27/02/2020 12:17

How dare you call innocent flower daft? Thats Flowerophibic - - you scoundrel - I'll report you to the police to, mumsnet, to my big sister - wwaaaaaahhhhhh.

@shinyredbus

Errrr you’re calling a flower ‘thick’? As in stupid? Confused

To think that daffodils are a bit thick really?
Raahh · 27/02/2020 12:20

A few years ago, we had daffodils come through at our nearby park as early as New year's eve. It was a very mild winter (I am under the Manchester snow shield though Grin).

Daffodils are my absolute favourite flowers - they make me happy. Daffodil

ChickenyChick · 27/02/2020 12:21

it's just part of their self importance and narcissism really Grin

Picklypickles · 27/02/2020 12:22

I'm in Devon and there's about a zillion daffodils about and have been for weeks now, its the same every year. We haven't had much in the way of snow or even ice really.

PicsInRed · 27/02/2020 12:24

They are indeed the cannon fodder of flowers.

Iminaglasscaseofemotion · 27/02/2020 12:24

I agree. Daffodils are idiots. It's not spring yet. The weather her is shit and I'm not ready for daffodils. Far too much enthusiasm for my liking. Arseholes.

BournvilleGreen · 27/02/2020 12:24

Daffs and Narcissi are all out in bloom here!
Of course it was snowing this morning...

Total eejits, but hardy wee fuckers. I dumped the soil from some pots in my back yard and the bulbs (that I had forgotten existed) burrowed down and flower in random places.

I love their optimism.🌼🙂

KittenVsBox · 27/02/2020 12:29

Only a few daffs here, but 100s of crocuses and snowdrops.
Why aren't they daft as well?

buckeejit · 27/02/2020 12:30

@ChickenyChick Grin

I love them for all their yellowyness & they remind me of Calamity Jane which is my favourite film!

AutumnRose1 · 27/02/2020 12:32

London daffs have been flowering for a couple of weeks.

I think they’ll be okay but the OP did crack me up 😂

inwood · 27/02/2020 12:33

I kind of like their optimism. Mine are now all dead.

Fruitsaladjelly · 27/02/2020 12:33

They have built in anti freeze, you under estimate them

BoreOfWhabylon · 27/02/2020 12:36

I've got snowdrops.

Fuckers have been out since just after New Year.

Today bluetits are nest-building. Feathery fuckers.

justcly · 27/02/2020 12:38

Kitten - I think it's the way daffs bounce about, as if they're all happy. They're a bad influence on the crocuses. Snowdrops are just victims of nominative determinism.
