This is slightly lighthearted. I am in my 30s now with 3 young kids. Didn't have a lot growing up but two things I remember clearly I always wanted to have was a decent pair of rollerblades and Furby Blush Unfortunately my parents couldn't afford it and didn't think it was necessary. Feel so stupid as I am actually considering to buy those (not for my kids but for myself). Just because I can and because I have always wanted. Silly things but I really believe it would make me happy Grin. Anyone here has done something similar and if so did it make you feel better?

We were never allowed double sided tape in my house, it was considered an expensive luxury. I always have at least 5 rolls in the drawer now.

Don't bother with the furby (I had one and couldn't make it do anything useful) but get some rollerblades! Why not?

Pringlesonthetable · 26/02/2020 16:44

I wanted to learn to sail after reading Swallows and Amazons, I learnt aged 40. I couldn't swim so give me confidence to sail I learnt aged 39.

I was desperate for a cat growing up. My parents said no. It took me 11 years after leaving home to get a stable enough place with job/housing, but I have had my cat for a few years now and he is completely worth it!

Teresajune · 26/02/2020 16:45

I visited the Somme. And Graceland. Smile

Smartanimal · 26/02/2020 16:46

A furby? Heh? Hmm

BorneoBabe · 26/02/2020 16:48

Disney World. Smile

Surfer25 · 26/02/2020 16:48

To me those aren't childhood dreams, those are just toys you wanted.

I always wanted to have babies (loved my dollys) ain't never gonna now unless I meet someone right now. So you've ticked off a dream I never will.

I wanted to go to lots of different countries and used to spend days reading the atlas and circling everywhere I would go if I could. We were a poor family.

I wanted not to be poor anymore. Mission accomplished.

Yes I've been travelling a few places now.

RattyTerror · 26/02/2020 16:48

I was able to loan a horse (will be purchasing one in 2 years time) and I now own a few pet rats. They would never have been allowed in the house when I lived with my parents!

Pringlesonthetable · 26/02/2020 16:50

Pearls You reminded me..I wanted a dog, like Timmy from Famous Five. I have had dogs since I was 22 now. Our current dog is probably the most intelligent and 'intune' dog yet.

There may be a theme about books and my imagination. Grin

EssentialHummus · 26/02/2020 16:50

Having friends!

Sarahlou63 · 26/02/2020 16:52

Always wanted a horse. Got my first at age 48.

Speminalium · 26/02/2020 16:54

Big house in the country and lots of babies! Not managed a horse yet, and given all the babies not sure I fancy another expensive dependent right now...

Minai · 26/02/2020 16:57

Cake for breakfast!

Apocalyptichorsewoman · 26/02/2020 17:08

I always wanted a horse too- got my horse aged 48!

babycorn · 26/02/2020 17:20

Same with the horse! Always wanted a pony, did lessons for a while and got back into it aged 27, got my girl on loan a year later, and spent a happy few years with her. Then I had a baby, and before I could get back into it, she was retired...

So will have re-fulfill my childhood dream again when the baby is a bit older, and I find another horse to match her...

Tara336 · 26/02/2020 17:26

I got a horse the minute I could afford it aged 18, I have travelled (DF refused to take us abroad) and I have a convertible 😊

BabyWenger · 26/02/2020 17:26

I got the singing Gizmo toy from Gremlins for my 30th. I wanted it when I was about 12.

IamPickleRick · 26/02/2020 17:31

So many! We grew up so poor and I remember even then thinking - when I grow up I am SO going to do all these things and no one can stop me!

Disneyland at 35! It was so magical, I even cried!
Travelling to the States.
Bought some dm’s.
Abseiled.

I always wanted to be an artist of some kind but my controlling best friend at secondary school told me art college was for weirdos with orange hair and told me not to go. Stupidly, I took notice of her and ended up following her onto an admin course and subsequent boring office jobs. I did eventually dump her but at 47 have never yet fulfilled my dream. I will one day try an art course. But I do so often wish I had become one of those orange haired ‘weirdos’, bet my bottom dollar they would have been nicer than her!

InTheSummerhouse · 26/02/2020 17:35

Wanted a horse. Bit jealous of those of you who got one. Not practical for me.

Saw a pic of the Taj Mahal when I was 10. Swore I'd go there. I went in my twenties. Wanted to travel - and have been to many, many places - even lived in some of them.

PunishmentSnart · 26/02/2020 17:37

@NotTooOld I got a Furby as an older teen - recently found it in the loft and my youngest was terrified so only this morning put it in the charity shop - I totally would have sent you it!!

Also roller blades - I bought myself and Dp (now DH) a pair then we had kids so they never got used strangely !

I got heeleys when I was about 18/19 and fell over and really hurt my elbow so that was a bad idea Grin

NotTooOld · 26/02/2020 17:43

On the bigger scale of things I always wanted a big house with a big garden which I finally have. I lived in various flats and never had a garden in my entire life. Our long driveway is getting tarmacked soon so that's where the old dream of rollerblading popped up again.

I went from controlling parents to a controlling DH. In my 30's I finally got a German Shepherd.

I can live, wear and eat what I want, never take freedom for granted.

Waitingforadulthood · 26/02/2020 17:50

I wanted to have dogs I was allowed to cuddle- on sofas and on beds etc. I got them. Then found out that they RUIN sofas and beds and mean you have to wash everything so much more. But now they're used to it so I can't change things. Still. Love cuddling them.

I also wasn't allowed to watch "American crap"Hmm on tv- think Sabrina the teenage witch/ fresh prince of bel air/ friends/ Seinfeld etc, as a teen in the 90s this really excluded me from my friends. As an adult I almost exclusively watch American sitcoms. Even when my dad comes over and judges me. It's my tv and Fraiser is art you old git!!!

NotTooOld · 26/02/2020 17:51

@PunishmentSnart
That made me chuckle Grin
I did wonder if my DD would like to have one so I could borrow hers every now and then.
