To wonder if people really have their baby girls in massive oversized head bows 24/7?

Or is it just for Instagram pictures? Like massive headbands with an enormous bow?

I have a 10 week old dd and if I put her to bed that way it would never stay on.

At the moment it's really in fashion. This is dd4 for me and I don't remember this trend with any of the others.

Hope not. A massive risk/hazard if baby is left unobserved surely?

mollypuss1 · 25/02/2020 23:44

Do 10 week old babies follow fashion these days?

daisypond · 25/02/2020 23:45

I have never seen it. Definitely not in fashion where I live.

looselegs · 25/02/2020 23:46

I think they're awful.
And dangerous. If baby is put to bed with one on, they could suffocate.

RaspberryBubblegum · 25/02/2020 23:46

All they make me think of now is the post about the baby suffocating from her bow Sad

Ha ha Grin - I’m sure it’s just for the pics. Or out walking in the pram. My DD never wore a headband like that - she was just a complete baldy for a year. They look really uncomfortable. I’m all for comfort and practicality. All my kids were only ever in pop up sleepsuits until they could walk - for ease of nappy changing.

GaraMedouar · 25/02/2020 23:47

Gosh - I never even thought of the danger of them , how awful Sad

Moomin8 · 25/02/2020 23:50

@RaspberryBubblegum omg that is heartbreaking Sad Sad

SephrinaX · 25/02/2020 23:50

I think they just look tacky. And the danger factor makes them even worse.

namechangetheworld · 25/02/2020 23:51

I imagine they just put them on for photos.

I also imagine that you already know this but wanted to start a snobtastic thread about babies in headbands.

Moomin8 · 25/02/2020 23:53

This is the type of thing. But you see them on very young babies (even newborn)

Why on earth would you risk putting your child to sleep in one??

Moomin8 · 25/02/2020 23:56

Yes @Garamedour I had to remind my dp that babies under about one year really don't need little dresses - they just aren't practical.

I do like my children to look pretty & nice (don't we all) but even the posh sleep suits aren't all that practical and I don't find myself reaching for them because they aren't as soft.

OP posts:
Moomin8 · 25/02/2020 23:58

Actually @namechangetheworld I think they can look sweet. But that's not really the point is it.

A friend of a friend has a 10 year old dd and i have never seen her without a massive bow on her head even as a wee tiny baby - big bow, toddler- big bow school - even bigger bow! Her neck muscles must be amazing!

Christmadtree · 26/02/2020 00:50

There are a few of these poor babies in one of my classes. They do not seem comfy and babies regularly trying to hoick them off but without the coordination or motor skills yet.

I rarely dress DD in pink and she hasn't much hair yet (6mo) and one mum mistook her for a boy... I wasn't fussed (not exactly crime of the century) but head bow mums were offended on my behalf and said I should put her in one to save the embarrassment Hmm

No worse than the giant pom pom hats people put babies in though!

Torvean · 26/02/2020 01:13

Jojo bows I cant stand them. The smaller the child the worse they look. The kid that " created" them is loaded. Her singing makes her bows not seem so bad. I remember a quote when her mother said she was aiming to make her a Kardashian...

managedmis · 26/02/2020 02:01

Do not put these on small babies. Mega hazard

SpokeTooSoon · 26/02/2020 02:08

I absolutely detest hair bands on babies. It’s a real moment of judgy disdain I’m afraid when I see them on tiny (bald) babies. How irritating it must feel and yet they don’t know what they are or how to get them off. It’s just mean and vain - presumably it’s done to let everyone know the sex of your baby, when it can be hard to tell. Either that or the dressing up of baby girls to look like accessories - got to start them early!

GiveHerHellFromUs · 26/02/2020 02:10

I know two people who actually do this. It's horrendous.

Emmelina · 26/02/2020 02:22

I don’t know if it’s still a thing, but when mine were small there was something called “girly glue”. To glue bows to your bald baby girl’s head so nobody would mistake them for a boy Sad

Topseyt · 26/02/2020 02:44

I've not seen these around here, though I am not out on the school run anymore as my children are long past that stage, so maybe I just haven't noticed.

They look utterly ridiculous from those pictures, and I can well imagine them being a hazard for babies, especially if unattended.

What bollocks!!

FrivolousPancake · 26/02/2020 03:05

These dreadful things go hand in hand with pierced ears on babies for me. A needless nasty risk for the sake of “style”-puke.

OldUnit · 26/02/2020 03:15

Aside from them looking ridiculous I always wince at the sight of an elasticated anything around such a young child's head.

GinDaddy · 26/02/2020 03:20

They are horrendous, tacky, dangerous, and people who put them on their child just to differentiate them as a girl etc are ghastly.

Did I say they were dangerous? The chances of constricting the airway if said bow slips?!

People are fucking ridiculous when it comes to Instagram etc. Embarrassing

groovergirl · 26/02/2020 04:08

Ha! Very cute, strictly for pics, never to be worn in bed.
But if they are attached to good, strong clips, they're excellent for pinning up mummy's hair before she hoes into the gardening. They look swelligant on me. Grin
