What would you do ??

OP posts:
Bongorave · 25/02/2020 22:55

Yes I do. Mine are going in tomorrow

GrannysBat · 25/02/2020 22:57

I wish I could go into isolation for 2 weeks. I’d bloody love it. I still think we’re making mountain out of nothing. Those immunocompromised obviously need to worry, and should rightly self contain.

There are far more recoveries than deaths and it’s not the Spanish flu. It’s not even airborne.

I think tomorrow’s newspapers are proper scare mongering.

Aridane · 25/02/2020 22:58

14 days isn't a long enough quarantine, someone showed symptoms after 27 days

No - the WHO has said that the (non peer reviewed) article that incubation period can be up to 24 days was in fact cases of re-exposure to the virus

Rosspoldarkssaddle · 25/02/2020 22:59

I just don't understand why these kids were allowed to go in for a day and a half when news broke big time on Sunday and two teachers had already decided to isolate themselves. It doesn't make sense.

GrannysBat · 25/02/2020 23:02

See it’s stupid people regurgitating “facts” incorrectly that is causing this panic. Had a person tell me at work that garlic helps combat the virus. Had to show them the WHO website highlighting misconceptions to shut them up.

It’s just a flu people. If you’re well and healthy, you’ll pull through, like 95% of people who were well and healthy have.

JoshArcherStoleMyTractor · 25/02/2020 23:02

@Careradvice2019 there is no way Sydney Russell went skiing, a relative of mine taught there over a decade ago and they had on site police and metal detectors by the doors. If the pupils have been sent home it's because someone's been stabbed.

Have any of them tested positive? I’d not make any kinds of comments until we know they’ve caught it!

WorraLiberty · 25/02/2020 23:06

JoshArcherStoleMyTractor why does living in a rough area mean kids don't go skiing?

Nearly all the senior schools in B&D do skiing trips.

AStarSoBright · 25/02/2020 23:07

@JoshArcherStoleMyTractor they did go skiing. It's all over the local papers and social media pages

gallbladderpain · 25/02/2020 23:07

Same thoughts OP but in N.I where a number
of schools have sent pupils home today. it worries me more for my younger child who doesn't attend the school but had chronic health problems and has already had pneumonia multiple times and once in the last 3 months and with whom a simple cold usual ends up in hospital getting help to breathe
I really don't know what the answer is though and up until now I've been very relaxed about it all and not concerned but I have to admit it is concerning me a bit now

coco1728 · 25/02/2020 23:12

Right decision made .....…... I'm keeping my child off , I will.keep you all posted if you are interested

middleager · 25/02/2020 23:13

My son returned on Sat from scho skiing in North Italy (non infected area) but the school has only written to say that any students who show flu like symptoms should self quarantine.

Half the group got Noro anyway on the trip!

coco1728 · 25/02/2020 23:15

Oh no @middleager the poor things that must of been awful for them.

OP posts:
middleager · 25/02/2020 23:19

Yes, the school assured us all would be fine (even though the resort had been in the news 2 days earlier after 40 children caught it, some on drips).

Then it passed to half our group, which flew in 2 days later.

MissPoldark · 25/02/2020 23:23

Was anyone else just surprised how many U.K. schools went on skiing trips to Italy in half term?

Yes, gobsmacked. It’s like some sort of sick joke.

RevolutionofourTime · 25/02/2020 23:27

🤦🏼‍♀️ It’s okay if you don’t know what covid is. But why on earth, if you’re not knowledgeable, go around confidently stating “it’s just a flu”? It’s not a flu.

DontPetTheSweatyStuff · 25/02/2020 23:36

I was sure this would be about Ely college as they've just come back and are all ill.

I never realised so many schools go on a skiing trip to Italy over Feb half term?

MidniteMessenger · 25/02/2020 23:58

Carmel College Darlington and a college in Middlesbrough also have sent pupils home and closed the school today due to pupils returning from Verona.

If your DC has been on a trip to one of these places, then follow NHS advice and act accordingly.

ChicCroissant · 26/02/2020 00:14

Do you have a set time that you are going to keep your child off for, OP? I know the advice is being updated daily, but you'd have to isolate the whole family to be sure of your child not catching it, rather than just avoiding school.

But yes, lots of schools on ski trips last week! My DD's school was as well, not one of the ones mentioned as they didn't go to Italy luckily.

UtterlyPerfectCartoonGiraffe · 26/02/2020 01:26

DontPet Noo.. that’s seriously close to me too, although dcs don’t go there yet. How many people are ill? I would have thought Kings would have been riskier as more international travel. Serves me right with my assumptions!

Italiangreyhound · 26/02/2020 02:14

"Right decision made .....…... I'm keeping my child off , I will.keep you all posted if you are interested"

Yes, interested. And I agree with you, I'd keep mine off.

notangelinajolie · 26/02/2020 02:24

Right decision OP. Mine would be off too.

Raindancer411 · 26/02/2020 02:39

Have you contacted the school and asked them what they suggest? I read another post for a similar thing and school were ok with it.

copperoliver · 26/02/2020 03:30

Definitely do not send him. X

Mummyoflittledragon · 26/02/2020 04:03

Always one spouting bollocks. It isn’t flu. It’s just called flu. Spout that crap to the formerly healthy dead people and their families. There are people on this thread, who aren’t fit and healthy. Including me. So insulting.
