Would you avoid carnival?

Due to go to carnival today (am not in the uk) due to take toddler Dd, lots of people, big crowd. Some people are posting on Sm they’re not going due to coronavirus, would you go? (We’re not in Italy but are in a tourist place)

formerbabe · 25/02/2020 11:29

I wouldn't take a toddler to a place with big crowds full stop.

Sundancer77 · 25/02/2020 11:31

@formerbabe For what reason?

OP posts:
Shoxfordian · 25/02/2020 11:32

I wouldn't go to a carnival in the first place

Sundancer77 · 25/02/2020 11:33

@Shoxfordian, how come?

OP posts:
Crunchymum · 25/02/2020 11:33

Depends where you are and if there have been any confirmed outbreaks?

OnlyFoolsnMothers · 25/02/2020 11:34

i wouldnt go because a toddler + crowds sounds like more effort than enjoyment to me.
Id have to constantly carry mine as they would be easily stepped on or squashed amongst a lot of people.

ArtemisOfOrtygia · 25/02/2020 11:34

I wouldn't go because I hate crowds and busy public events.

Nicknacky · 25/02/2020 11:34

formerbabe Why wouldn’t you take a toddler to big crowds?

Sundancer77 · 25/02/2020 11:36

No confirmed outbreaks yet, but many different nationalities and tourists. Been every other year but tempted to dress Dd in her costume and let her eat pancakes in the garden 🙄that’s giving in to fear though really.

OP posts:
formerbabe · 25/02/2020 11:37

Because I'd be scared of them getting inadvertently squashed or pushed around in the crowd. Because I'd have to watch them like a hawk in case they let go of my hand or disappeared from my sight. No idea if the carnival you're going to will have alcohol available but if so, I wouldn't want my dc around people who had been drinking.

Oh and in terms of coronavirus...location is everything.

Nicknacky · 25/02/2020 11:39

formerbabe So would you go to a theme park or take them to a kids themed show (Disney on ice for example)?

OnlyFoolsnMothers · 25/02/2020 11:41

So would you go to a theme park or take them to a kids themed show but these are kid focused, people will be aware of little ones. Im not sure a carnival necessarily would.

Nicknacky · 25/02/2020 11:42

only I was replying to another poster who said she doesn’t take her child to anywhere with large crowds.

Sundancer77 · 25/02/2020 11:42

Hmmm, yeah it is stressful but I feel I have to watch her like a hawk basically everywhere as it is 🤷‍♀️There will be alcohol but it’s generally a family atmosphere.

OP posts:
formerbabe · 25/02/2020 11:43

@nicknacky

Those examples you have given don't have crowds comparable to those I've seen at carnivals...not to mention at shows or theme parks, people have a purpose...i.e. sit down and watch show or go on rides. Milling around and being part of the crowd is a huge part of a carnival.

OnlyFoolsnMothers · 25/02/2020 11:43

Nicknacky i know, just jumping in with my own answer. I wouldnt go to a carnival due to the crowds but I would take my LO to say peppa pig world.

Holdingtherope · 25/02/2020 11:43

I would totally go. There will be thousands of toddlers there loving it

Nicknacky · 25/02/2020 11:45

former Hence why I was asking about your idea of “big crowds”.

SpoonBlender · 25/02/2020 11:48

If you don't state where you are, you can't get any valid epidemiological opinions. Give us a country at least.

Sundancer77 · 25/02/2020 11:51

Portugal

OP posts:
Shookethtothecore · 25/02/2020 11:54

Depends on a whole host of scenarios really. Nottinghill not on the family day, absolutely not. But a family carnival somewhere daily local then yes I would. None of these really have Coronavirus is an issue (unless you are in the Far East)

PumpkinP · 25/02/2020 12:11

I wouldn’t take a child anyway. Mine have never been to Notting hill one but obviously don’t know where you are so it might be different

Nameisthegame · 25/02/2020 12:17

In Portugal and Spain I would. I’m in Spain and taking my toddler x also there’s like 2 cases in Spain and maybe one in Portugal or something so I wouldn’t worry about it.

Poing · 25/02/2020 12:19

We are avoiding it today. Not just because of corona but also because of the ?terrorist incident yesterday near us in Germany.

DesLynamsMoustache · 25/02/2020 12:22

The Wuhan local carnival? Probably not. Otherwise, most likely yes.
