AIBU about my salary?

I don't live in the UK, but my country is not too different so I think it's okay to ask the question here.

I always thought my salary is good, but lately I can't help but feel like, maybe, it isn't. But I compare my salary to other people's salary without taking into account that they might work more hours than I do. Anyway, I work 34.5 to 35 hours a week (Monday to Friday) and I earn about £37k annually. My salary increases annually with about £1.2k, and in 3 years time it'll increase by £1.2k PLUS about £4k annually. Making my annual salary £41k PLUS a yearly increase of about £1.2k.

I should probably also mention that I work in an NGO, so I probably don't earn as much as I could earn if I worked elsewhere.

I don’t understand what you’re asking

GiveHerHellFromUs · 25/02/2020 07:53

If you want to earn more either try and justify a pay rise or find a new job

sunshineANDsweetpeas · 25/02/2020 07:53

It all depends on what you do for a job.

ArtemisOfOrtygia · 25/02/2020 07:54

I'm asking if my salary can be considered low, average or high for the amount of hours that I work.

Pardonwhat · 25/02/2020 07:55

What’s the question?
Or do you just want an ego boost?

Treacletoots · 25/02/2020 07:56

It's relative to the cost of living where you are. In the UK that's pretty good.

AriadnesFilament · 25/02/2020 07:56

It’s not about how many hours you do, it’s about what job you do.

Iusedtobeapartygirl · 25/02/2020 07:56

It entirely depends on what you do!

Pardonwhat · 25/02/2020 07:56

ArtemisOfOrtygia

It depends if you’re a waitress or a neurosurgeon.
And whether you live in central London or in the North East.
So many variables that I’m not sure what the point is?

Lionsleepstonight · 25/02/2020 07:56

Sounds pretty to high to me, isnt the UK aveage 29k?

ArtemisOfOrtygia · 25/02/2020 07:57

I'm a receptionist.

MerryTwinkletoes · 25/02/2020 07:57

A receptionist would earn half that in the uk!

GOODCAT · 25/02/2020 07:58

It depends on what you do for a living. It is above national minimum wage but if you have unique skills that are hard to acquire it would be low. What do you do?

Palavah · 25/02/2020 07:58

We don't know what job you do or where. If you want to benchmark your salary against other people in similar roles at similar levels in similar industries then check out Glassdoor or speak to a local recruiter.

Your question is entirely arbitrary. It depends what you're trying to achieve.

loobyloo1234 · 25/02/2020 07:58

MN really need to get an eye roll emoji

Did you come here just to brag OP?

ArtemisOfOrtygia · 25/02/2020 07:58

I'm just trying to get an idea of where I stand. I tried to Google the information, but it's highly inaccurate.

OP posts:
GOODCAT · 25/02/2020 07:58

Very good money as a receptionist.

Squirrelblanket · 25/02/2020 07:59

Nice humblebrag, OP!

GiveHerHellFromUs · 25/02/2020 07:59

No receptionist earns that much unless they've handed out some special favours along the way.

Palavah · 25/02/2020 08:00

Crossposted. What's your point. Are you just interested in what random strangers on the internet think of your salary?

ArtemisOfOrtygia · 25/02/2020 08:00

Did you come here just to brag OP?
No, I don't care about opinions or how people see me. I also don't think what I earn is so high that it's remotely brag worthy.

LagunaBubbles · 25/02/2020 08:00

A receptionist?! You would be lucky to earn half that in the UK. I'm a qualified mental health nurse and you earn more than me.

isabellerossignol · 25/02/2020 08:00

The receptionist where I work earns less than £20k.

The company accountant where I work (fully qualified chartered accountant) earns about £30k.

So to me that's a huge salary.

But I suppose it depends on what other people earn where you live.

But obviously if you're somewhere that salaries bear no resemblance.

TheGinGenie · 25/02/2020 08:01

I can't even dream of that salary and I work more hours in a highly qualified job. Hope that helps.

Bartlet · 25/02/2020 08:01

But you haven’t even said where you live. How are strangers meant to tell whether that is good or not? In the UK it would be excellent for a receptionist. Is that what you want us to say?
