I worked as a waitress when I was younger, similar type of pubs and restaurants as this one. I thought I'd seen a messy table or two in my time, but this is gross!

I appreciate children make a mess. But why would any sane adult think this is acceptable?

Feel sorry for the staff.

Yup totally agree - there’s no excuse at all. Pure laziness and lack of empathy for others.

CynthiaRothrock · 24/02/2020 21:34

It's one of the many reasons I left hospitality. That and having food thrown at me because the guest wanted to try something on the menu he had never had before and didn't like it. nothing wrong with the food at all, he had never tried it before so didn't know what it tastes like but wasn't what he was expecting so quite literally threw it in my face! I would have felt sorry for his poor wife had I not have been getting hosed down in the kitchen because scalded me! Some people are just wankers and should not be allowed out In Public,l!

ClutterbuckFarm · 24/02/2020 21:39

People like this are a disgrace. They must lead sad, inadequate little lives.

DonkeyKong2019 · 24/02/2020 21:39

To be honest having worked in a harvester style place I'd much rather be left with that mess than deal with some of the rude, obnoxious customers we would get.

DonkeyKong2019 · 24/02/2020 21:40

And that table would be at least once a shift occurrence.

Curiosity101 · 24/02/2020 21:42

I worked as a waitress for a long time and this wouldn't have bothered me. I'd still get paid the same regardless. It'd only take a few minutes to gather all the rubbish together and sweep the floor.

Not suggesting I'd ever leave a table like that. I normally stack plates and make sure any rubbish is part of that pile, but honestly that table in the article wouldn't have really registered for me.

To be fair I did also work on a farm so maybe my idea of 'mess' is skewed Grin

GetMeOffThisCycleOfMisery · 24/02/2020 21:45

Can't believe this is a regular occurrence. Maybe I was lucky!

Must say though, despite having no table this bad, being a waitress certainly opened my eyes to all walks of life!

I used to clear tables at a cafe that catered..well supposedly 'posh'

That (and worse) was a daily occurance for the hoardes of Mummy's that luched

GetMeOffThisCycleOfMisery · 24/02/2020 21:46

@CynthiaRothrock that's disgusting. Did you call the police? What a revolting individual.

MeepleMe · 24/02/2020 21:49

This happened regularly when I worked at Pizza Hut. Rubbish, mess etc I didn't mind. Copious crayon scribbles directly on the table meanwhile Angry took ages literally picking with my finger nails to get it up sometimes.

DontDribbleOnTheCarpet · 24/02/2020 21:53

I've had to wipe shit off a table where the parents had changed their stinky toddler. That was fun.
I don't miss hospitality work at all.

Stayawayfromitsmouth · 24/02/2020 21:54

I've seen worse. 🤷‍♀️
I feel more sorry for the staff having to deal with the customers.
The ones that take the phrase ' is everything ok with your meal?' as an invitation to find fault or make a stupid comment. Just say fine and get on with it.
The most boggling one was the gammon was too salty. Confused

BlythesEyes · 24/02/2020 22:02

Believe me it's not the people you expect to leave tables like this. The worst offenders where I work are parents with small children and babies who have a 'meet up' rather than make the mess in their own houses. The thing that gets me most is that they wouldn't do it in their friends' houses so why leave a mess anywhere where someone else has to clear up for them? Food on the floor, toys scattered, baby wipes, used packets of their own food, fruit skins, dirty nappies...you name it they leave it. It disgusts me every day.
What they don't realise is that when they also bring their own food and drinks and use 20 napkins, 8 straws and nick the condiments they will eventually close down the independent coffee shops etc that can't afford to make a living, and they'll have nowhere.
On a lighter note, the higher percentage of customers' are fantastic and are much appreciated.
Just keep smiling...just keep smiling....just keep....

Vintagehearts · 24/02/2020 22:06

I hate that too. Even in McDonald's I always clear my tray away and the kids lead by example so do the same.

Daftodil · 24/02/2020 22:09

Yes, it is messy underneath which is a bit crappy, but not sure why there are so many plates and glasses etc after the family had left. Shouldn't the staff have been clearing the table as the dinner progressed? Not really sure what the hoohaa is about.

Agree with PP - I dealt with much worse than this when I was a waitress, so not sure why a messy table is worthy of going viral.

TheTrollFairy · 24/02/2020 22:11

That’s disgusting. I have asked for a broom or dustpan and brush in food places before and what DD dropped was nothing like this.

People can be pure wankers at times

plunkplunkfizz · 24/02/2020 22:19

Even in McDonald's I always clear my tray away

You’re supposed to clear yourself at McDonald’s.

Dieu · 24/02/2020 22:26

I didn't look at the photo, as I knew it would give me the rage.
Hope the whole manky lot of them got the shits from their meal.
I feel sorry for those who have to clean up after inconsiderate bastards. It's incredibly disrespectful Thanks

CynthiaRothrock · 24/02/2020 22:47

Yes police were Called on that and several other occasions, they never did anything though. I have been spat at because we didn't serve a certain type of food, I was working in a fish and chip shop at the time and we didn't sell kebabs so he spat in my face Envy not envy.
I was knocked out by another customer because I wouldn't give him an extra portion for free. Even though he had spent so much, the grand sum of£15.
I have even had a knife pulled on me.
The only time the. Police did anything was the night someone pulled a knife on my colleague and I jumped him From behind and restrained him. I was nearly arrested for that one!

JasonBrun · 24/02/2020 22:59

God I've seen much much worse. When I first started in hospitality it was presmoking ban and honestly the horrendous things people can do with condiments and fag ends. Envy

ScissorsBike · 24/02/2020 23:03

Why would this bother you? People are paid to clear the table and sweep the floor, it's their job!

BlythesEyes · 24/02/2020 23:14

@ScissorsBike but why make someone's job more difficult? That's a really selfish attitude to have.

AlexaAmbidextra · 24/02/2020 23:18

Why would this bother you? People are paid to clear the table and sweep the floor, it's their job!

Well we can all hazard a guess at how you behave in a restaurant can’t we?

GetMeOffThisCycleOfMisery · 24/02/2020 23:32

@ScissorsBike seriously? The waiting staff aren't paid to deal with this level of mess.

If everyone had yours and this family's attitude, we'd all be waiting a hell of a lot longer between courses!

Yes it was bad, but why would she not 'know where to start'? I don't get that bit.
