I have a son almost 8 years now in new relationship for 6 years really want done to have a sibling but left it so late scared of complicated pregnancy now that I’m older. Not had period for a long time due to pills any pills that can help , clinic I’ve heard from Gp may help. A little scared about issues this time round ..

I’d just go for it personally if you’re in otherwise good health. If you said 49 I’d be far more concerned.

I just had my first baby at 39 due to infertility. It was high risk but not because of my age. The tricky time came afterwards with a range of issues including anxiety centred specifically around my not being around to see my grandkids/be an active grandmother due to my age. Apparently a lot of women our age feel this way. If you have no doubts and are 100% then go for it

If you want another then go for it, at 39 you’re not too old, but no one can pretend that time is on your side.

If you feel it’s the right choice for your family then I crack on with ttc sooner rather than later.

It is, I'm sorry.

Lady I worked with fell pregnant at 45 and gave birth at 46! All was well. He was her 4th. He'll be starting school this year. She will be 50!

First at 38, no issues and nothing extra or special was done during the pregnancy (I was midwife led and didn’t need any extra tests or anything).

My Mum had number 4 at 39.

I had my baby at 39, and I know age is just one of many factors in having kids. I had babies in my mid 20s and the experience was different to this one but there are many things to consider regardless of age. If you are healthy and willing, that's pretty much all you need. Good luck!

I had my first baby at 29, second at 36, third baby at 38 and my forth at 48! I had no age related pregnancy issues at 38 at all and all babies were perfectly healthy. There are lots of mums who have babies in their late 30s and it is really not old at all at 39.

ArthurandJessie · 27/02/2020 23:59

Lots of women have babies at that age but if your worried you could always go and see a genetic counsellor ! They are great and will do lots of tests and look into family history etc and honestly tell you your risks and maybe that will help you decide?

I had my youngest at 40. Worked up to the Friday before she was born ( on a Sunday) and went back when she was 3 months. I worked in a hospital ( medical technologist ) and at that job we all had to go and draw blood from the patients on the wards every day ( we all had our own ward), so it wasnt exactly a slow paced job. It was fine, never an issue. Oh and she was the youngest of my 4 children, closest sibling was 9

Hello. I am new to TTC and new to Mumsnet - Searched for this thread as I am tying myself in knots worried that we have left it too late. We are currently on 2nd cycle. Heartwarming to read some success stories with ladies my age :)

Pipandmum · 11/01/2021 13:01

No. I had mine at 41 and 43, my sister at 45, a friend at 46 and so on. All conceived naturally. Only my sister had complications but that was not necessarily due to her age.
