Tbh i thought it was normal to wake up 40s plus sire in the morning, hobbling about, body aching. But been speaking to friends, some in their mid to late 60s and they were surprised. What the hell, what is wrong eith me, is it just me?

Following out of interest. I have ached in the morning since my early 20s. I kind of forgot about it, because it wears off after a bit. Also ache when I get up after sitting for a while. Wondered if it had something to do with looser ligaments.

chockaholic72 · 22/02/2020 00:16

Could be perimenopause. Mine started literally over about a week - I was having to roll out of bed in the mornings. I went on a winter mountaineering week in Scotland and could only walk every other day because I ached so much - normally I’d have been prancing around with my rucksack and crampons for 15 miles a day. Had other symptoms so went to see my GP and went on HRT and it eased off dramatically within about a month.

Ikeasucks · 22/02/2020 00:22

That’s interesting chocoholic, went through menopause the past few years. Spoke to the nurse who did my recent smear test (very painful) and she told me to speak to my gp about possible hrt

I'm late 20s and ache when I wake up or if I sit down for too long. Joints are terrible in cold weather. It has been happening to me for years. GP suspects I have arthritis though. Could be that?

chockaholic72 · 22/02/2020 00:28

Yeah - I had had other symptoms but that was the thing that was so bad that sent me to the GP. Even on days when I hadn’t done any exercise I was walking around like a 90 year old until I’d got in a hot shower!

The other thing that has helped is doing stretches or easy yoga poses for five mins when I get up and before I go to bed. I work in an office so am sat down in front of a screen all day. Stretching just kind of loosens me up - have a look on Pinterest, there are loads of positions for you to try - just five or six when you get up will stretch all your limbs and your back and neck out.

I went to doctor when I was late 30's as so stiff in the mornings. Had to stretch and bend joints before I got out of bed and walk about 5m before I could properly straighten up. He sent me for some blood tests which I didn't have done and said that these things happen as we get older Confused
Bought anew mattress and it was miraculous! Old mattress wasn't uncomfortable but quite old

Get yourself checked out for PMR -

Ignore the age range mentioned. It's worth a look.

janemaster · 22/02/2020 00:49

I am 50. I am taking part in a study about this. I am fat and too sedentary but do not ache at all. But others ache a lot at your age. They are trying to understand why.
The only thing I would suggest is look at your mattress and pillows. Old saggy mattresses and pillows can cause this.

BitOfFun · 22/02/2020 01:15

Oestrogen loss is a key cause of stiffness and pain on waking.

vodkaredbullgirl · 22/02/2020 01:17

Im 50 and i ache all over in the morning, but thats due to a dog not knowing personal space lol.

midwestspring · 22/02/2020 01:18

I had aching in my bones and exhaustion when I had a severe vit D deficiency.

StillMedusa · 22/02/2020 01:35

Yes get your Vit D checked.
I ached all over..all the time, and eventually went to the docs and it turned out my Vit D was through the floor. A few months on prescribed doses and I felt a lot better (on it for life now)

LorenzoStDubois · 22/02/2020 02:26

This has started to happen to me too.
i've really noticed it this year.
I'm very stiff and almost sore in the morning.
I'm the wrong side of 45.

ifeellikeanidiot · 22/02/2020 02:33

I went through early menopause in my 30s. One of my worst symptoms was aching joints. I was convinced it was rheumatoid arthritis at first. Getting the right HRT sorted made a huge difference.

Toomanygerbils · 22/02/2020 02:39

Depends on your lifestyle as much as your age. Do you drink too much? Smoke? Exercise? And plenty of other factors. It could well be genetic, but could also be lifestyle. I hope you find the cause x

Puddlesplasher · 22/02/2020 02:45

I was like this when I had a vitamin D deficiency.

Aragog · 22/02/2020 02:48

I'm 47. I ache a lot, Most of the time, and especially in winter.
I have arthritis and was diagnosed almost ten years ago. Before then I didn't really think people my age got arthritis. I take lots of medication every day to try to reduce the effects of it.

LightDappledLeaves · 22/02/2020 02:51

Same.
I found an old copper bracelet, and weirdly it’s helped

Zaza1414 · 22/02/2020 03:02

I'm 42 now, 5 years ago, gp agreed i was early menopause...nope, I now have a 3 year old!! I still ache all over, the sweats are awful. I'm possibly just weird lol

Ikeasucks · 22/02/2020 07:31

Wow, thanks for the replies - lots to think about. I’ll make an appointment to see my GP and get vit D checked etc. i feel i do drink too much (a friend stopped recently for health reasons and said she feels do much better - even on aching too). I’m about a stone overweight at about 11 stone which has crept on the past few years but quite active - walk and play sports. Changed my mattress last year as my hips were aching through the night quite badly, that at least is much better.

I've given myself a massive lifestyle make over recently and feel ten years younger already. Moderate exercise, a healthy diet, a good multi vitamin and time laughing with my husband. I'm early 40s too.

Veterinari · 22/02/2020 07:56

Check your sleeping position - I have a tendency to sleep on one side and it gives me hip and shoulder pain

silverlace · 22/02/2020 08:22

I was feeling like this too. I said to my DH I feel old. Went to Dr and had a few blood tests. Despite my age hormones are still ok but my iron levels were low. I have started taking a Wellwoman supplement and the Dr gave me iron tablets and I feel so much better.

fruitpastille · 22/02/2020 08:33

I'm stiff and achy often in the morning. My vit D was very low but taking a high dose supplement (as well as the initial loading dose prescribed) has not made a noticeable difference.

Autoimmune - can be the beginnings of fibromyalgia but it doesn’t have to get worse.
