Fucking 70 quid for a cake????

Hairwizard · 21/02/2020 20:42

As title says. Quoted 'from' 70 quid for a Christening cake. This was based on a 6" square cake with 4 sponge layers. Not tiers. Buttercream icing. Any decs toppers etc would be extra and from 8 - 15 quid!
Am i missing something?? How the f does a cake cost that much?

And believe me when I say I don't skimp on my ingredients. I certainly don't use soft margarine to save money,

Of course you don't, I'm sure you use the best quality margarine there is.

HeelsHandbagPerfumeCoffee · 18/01/2021 21:03

Yes go on have a big ol self congratulatory post...oh i see you did that already Elizabeth
And do be thoroughly obsequious to @Kissthepastrychef for good measure

ElizabethofpeanutYorkies · 18/01/2021 21:05

@HeelsHandbagPerfumeCoffee i am also fully qualified and have licence for hot foods. I can cater for pretty much anything although i prefer higher supper events. Do let me know ever you need any events catering for. I can offer you a "mates" rates!

hansgrueber · 18/01/2021 21:07

@Waveysnail

I know good ingredients alone for large cake can cost around £30/40, add the time and prep then it's really not that much
Not for a 6 inch cake though.
ElizabethofpeanutYorkies · 18/01/2021 21:10

@HeelsHandbagPerfumeCoffee i was not being obsequious to @kiss, merely recognising her observations as similar to my experiences.

Have another gin darling, you are clearly in a bad mood.

ElizabethofpeanutYorkies · 18/01/2021 21:12

@BlueThistles Thousands of people make an exceptional living from baking cakes ☺️

Yes, and they are very skilled and talented.

HeelsHandbagPerfumeCoffee · 18/01/2021 21:13

Sure thing, Elizabeth I will want a floridly described description of your artisanal slim but strong fingers, an excruciating description of your kitchen and that there fancy stuff...what’s it called? Margarine!. I want a photo of your indemnity insurance, an embellished description of cost and do tell me all about those niche tools you have, like piping bags and sieves

So a buffet that looks like greggs, but is priced Fortnum & mason

10kstepsaroundthegardenthen · 18/01/2021 21:13

If you want quality you pay for it.
Basic ingredients, board, decent icing, ribbon colour come in at around £30-40 the rest is time for labour. Quality cakes Take time and skill.

Either buy a cake from the supermarket or make it yourself.

HeelsHandbagPerfumeCoffee · 18/01/2021 21:16

You were being a great big suck up the obsequious you is sooo great posts. And self congratulatory

BlueThistles · 18/01/2021 21:16

my cakes are superb... ☺️ I never sell them though... they never last long enough 🤣

justasmalltownmum · 18/01/2021 21:21

A lot of instagram bakers charge high prices for cakes.

ElizabethofpeanutYorkies · 18/01/2021 21:27

@HeelsHandbagPerfumeCoffee you come across as quite bitter and generally miserable . I am quite happy and secure in my own skin. Because i am quite stable i do not need to prove anything to you, you are after all a random on the Internet. Nor do i need to use excessive use of the English language in an attempt to intimidate people. I know words, i know lots of big words. Strangely only two small ones spring to my mind now.

That said , my offer is genuinely still there if you need any catering and you are near. Pls PM me and i can quote. Business is business.

ElizabethofpeanutYorkies · 18/01/2021 21:31

@HeelsHandbagPerfumeCoffee and i will still give you a discount even though you are a miserable scortillum.

HeelsHandbagPerfumeCoffee · 18/01/2021 21:35

You accused me of being drunk and bitter, is it one both?or will you add glue to the mix too
I’ve clearly set out my buffet requirements you’ll excel at that I’m sure

Your posts, the feted descriptions of yourself and the pastry chef, frankly I’m surprised no one else piped up (see what I did there..piped)

ElizabethofpeanutYorkies · 18/01/2021 21:41

@HeelsHandbagPerfumeCoffee (see what I did there..piped)

@HeelsHandbagPerfumeCoffee You accused me of being drunk

I didn't actually. Your vocabulary is very good but your reading needs improvement.

Anyway, off to bed now. I have a large order to deliver to village pub in the morning for their lunch take away menu.

Lookslikerainted · 18/01/2021 21:48

I pay more than that usually, the cakes are beautiful

EveryDayIsADuvetDay · 18/01/2021 21:52

off topic, but one of my lovely neighbours baked me a fantastic sourdough loaf this morning. Grin

HeelsHandbagPerfumeCoffee · 18/01/2021 21:52

derideo te. you’re calling me a miserable prostitute.Surely you meant, Meretrix? As opposed to scortillum

Nonetheless I’ll take that from a baker ,Cheers

Binswangers · 18/01/2021 22:34
