We have recently been given these by the council. I appreciate that in theory it’s a great idea but hate the look of them. Anyone use anything alternative? Have no where else in my kitchen for it to go.

I'm not sure it's particularly sustainable to buy another plastic container for food waste because you don't like the look of the one that's already been distributed to you

It most definitely isn’t but i'm prepared to cut back in other ways than having to look at the monstrosity I was given. Not a chance was it staying.

They don't smell

I beg to differ. They are a revolting thing to have in your kitchen.

They don't smell any more than a normal rubbish bin would especially if you empty them daily.

We have two of them a small grey one for under the sink and a large green one for outside which the council then collects.

In total our council provides 6 different recepticles!

1 under sink food caddy
1 outdoor food caddy
1 box for cardboard & paper
1 box for plastics and cans
1 general waste bin
1 optional garden waste bin!

Thankfully we are moving to an an area with just 3

under sink food caddy
general waste bin
General recyclables bin

Love the idea of people using their dogs as a compost bin.

Do they eat used teabags, potato peelings, banana skins, eggshells and cauliflower stalks?!

SallySun123 · 21/02/2020 15:35

Brabantia 6L “sort and go”, they do a few different colours.

DesLynamsMoustache · 21/02/2020 15:36

Ours doesn't smell. Why would it? It has a lid and is emptied frequently. Just like a normal bin Confused

Somanysocks · 21/02/2020 15:51

Mine doesn't smell. Put some newspaper or kitchen paper on the bottom then the liner bag. It helps if you don't put stuff in if it's still hot so things stay dry.

Mine is on the floor by the bin.

I keep a small one on worktop that I got in Lakeland. I line it with a compostable bag (our council provides free ones) When full I put them in council provided caddy out the back which holds approx 3 bags. When I have 3 full bags I put them in one of the bigger bags and deposit in large food bin. Keeps bin clean which I also line with newspaper. It means I only have to clean bin occasionally. Maybe sounds a bit of a faff but works for me.
