Baby pjs?

Hi1302 · 20/02/2020 19:14

Do you think baby onesies/babygrows are acceptable to wear in the day upto age oneish?

I think it’s reasonable but have had a couple of comments about them being pjs only which I think is ridiculous. Aibu?

I kept mine in baby grows as long as possible (prob easily a year) 😀 they are quick to wash, change, cool colours and designs and look fab with a cardi.

I was always gutted when each one grew too old to wear baby grows in the daytime.

Thehop · 21/02/2020 06:21

I think baby grows look gorgeous on babies. Mine lived in them.

DappledThings · 21/02/2020 07:44

I'm always bemused by these threads. I found babygrow fiddly to put on with trying to get four limbs in one place at the same time, faffy with all those poppers that always went wrong the first time and had to be redone and generally just irritating.

My first lasted about 6 weeks in them, my second about half that. Bodysuits and dungarees all the way for me. Easy to slip on and off and much less fiddly.

Even for night time they were both in proper pyjamas as soon as I could buy some that fitted.

BertieBotts · 21/02/2020 07:49

Don't you find they get all tangled in the legs trying to crawl and shuffle around? I did, so I stopped using them in the day mostly at 3 months and entirely by about 6 months.

I love baby grows but my babies seemed to be the wrong shape for them!

TomeOfSomething · 21/02/2020 07:52

TBH I find it a bit sad to see older babies in babygros in the daytime

Really why? At least they are comfortable, what else matters to them?

Asparagusss · 21/02/2020 07:59

These threads baffle me too because it seems like a common occurrence on Mumsnet but I have never seen a baby over 5 months or so in a babygro in the daytime in real life. I'm not in the UK though so maybe that's the difference.

I actually find separate leggings/top much easier for nappy changes and like pp have said, there are clothes for babies that aren't jeans or designed to look like mini adults - this seems to have passed some people by Grin

If they're wearing a vest, leggings and a top and they get a bit hot, you can take the top off. Can't do that with a babygro!

Plus for crawling, standing, learning to walk, babygros are a lot less practical in my experience. It's also a good sign to them that it's bedtime when you put the onesie on.

FizzyIce · 21/02/2020 08:02

Oh I love baby grows, they’re adorable .
Had some great ones for dd .
I’d put them on her now if I could .. but she’s 8 so she might protest a bit Grin

Funtcase95 · 21/02/2020 08:34

My DD is 3 months and unless we're leaving the house, she's in sleepsuits! When we go out it's usually leggings & t shirt or romper/dungarees.

MsJuniper · 21/02/2020 08:36

Mine were in babygros until they were cruising as I thought they needed to be comfortable to sleep during the day but of course we were given outfits so sometimes put them in those too.

DD was born just as the really hot weather in 2018 started so she spent most of her first few months in a vest or light romper and missed out on wearing some of the fancy outfits we were given as I didn't have the heart to wrangle her into them.

Then babygros with cardigans as the weather grew colder. Soft dungarees with a vest were my next go-to once the babygros became impractical.

InkogKneeToe · 21/02/2020 08:37

Mine wore babygrows until he started moving then they became impractical, so up to about 6 months ish?

HoHoHolly · 21/02/2020 08:45

I think it's better for their feet to get a bit of freedom. Mine walked at 10 and 11 months and needed bare feet for grip on hard floors.

That said, I usually had a babygrow in the changing bag as an emergency change of clothes and I think it's a bizarre thing to comment on IRL with a baby.

Summer romper suits are adorable and should be worn as long as poss!

Jess827 · 21/02/2020 08:47

One of the biggest wastes of £££s were the "outfits" we and others bought!

Would keep to the sleep suits until crawling and not worry about it. They're warm, clean, easy to nappy change, why wouldn't you use them?

HariboLectar · 21/02/2020 08:52

I'd wear them all day if I could get away with it, so for a baby it's fine Grin

Amatteroftime · 21/02/2020 08:58

YANBU. If we are going anywhere during the day then I get DD (8 months) dressed but if we are having a day at home then I often opt for a vest and sleep suit. What I don't like seeing is tiny babies in shoes...it's pointless and I've actually heard can hinder them learning to walk as they will think their foot is a different shape/have more of a fat pad under their feet than they do? I only put shoes on DD if her feet are exposed for long periods e.g baby carrier, to stop her feet getting cold. Or just an extra pair of socks.

I've been given some stick for her not wearing shoes as well!

Amatteroftime · 21/02/2020 09:00

So far sleep suits have not made it hard for DD to crawl, she is always trying to go and open the cupboards.

LionelRitchieStoleMyNotebook · 21/02/2020 09:04

DS was running around by ten months, baby grows would have been a hindrance as those small enough to fit him have no grip on the feet and we have wooden floors. He's 15 months now and only has all in ones (without feet or he gets too warm) for bed. He mainly wears leggings and jumpers or tops though, so still soft and comfortable during the day. It's also easier to get a very wriggly toddler back into leggings than to do up a baby grow after s nappy change.

Lipsygirl · 21/02/2020 09:07

I had my baby in baby grows until 6 weeks, then I started trying to establish the difference between night/day so I used to get him dressed everyday. Mainly rompers as it was June/July. Everyone thought it was odd that I got him dressed everyday so I don’t think it’s the norm

ReginaGeorgeous · 21/02/2020 12:40

Sleepsuit are so cute but I actually found them a pain to do the poppers up. My 9 month old is such a wriggler I think I'd be there all day wrestling him into a babygro. He lives in little joggers and jumpers.

luckylavender · 22/02/2020 08:12

@DappledThings - how are body suits easier to pop up than baby gros?!
@Asparagusss - condescending much?

BluntAndToThePoint80 · 22/02/2020 08:26

Personally I like to dress mine (in comfy clothes) and would consider Babygrows as PJs. Other than first few weeks, I wouldn’t use them during the day. Not saying I truss my kids up like festive turkeys or anything, but I like there to be a difference.

However, I couldn’t care less if others dress their kids in whatever they like. Why are you bothered if you (and your child) are happy ?

Camomila · 22/02/2020 08:32

DS1 was a spring baby so he went from babygrows to mainly little rompers or shorts and body suits, then when he was rolling/sitting up I moved to leggings.
I kept him in onesie pjs for ages though as they are nice and warm.

DS2 is 4 weeks so lives in babygrows plus a cardigan/jumper outdoors.

DappledThings · 22/02/2020 09:11

DappledThings - how are body suits easier to pop up than baby gros?!

Because they are three poppers in a row just under the bum. As opposed to what feels like about 50 poppers that don't obviously match up when you are trying to do them round flailing limbs and inevitably have to be taken apart and re done when you realise there's wrong one somewhere and one leg is short.

Infinitely easier!

ambereeree · 22/02/2020 09:22

I change my boy into clean pyjamas during the day at home. He's nearly two! They look so cute in pyjamas.

GiveHerHellFromUs · 22/02/2020 19:29

To the PP's saying they're fine until they start to crawl: if they can't comfortably crawl in a sleepsuit their sleepsuit is too small.

99problemsandthecatis1 · 22/02/2020 21:09

@GiveHerHellFromUs nah, mine used to crawl up in to the body of the suit so the little leg bits are flapping empty behind her. Then she gets stuck and faceplants. Happens if I put her in dungarees too.
