To think at 40 I’m too old to wear false eyelashes?

Just that really. I think when younger women wear these they look so lovely as they have no fine lines etc... but at 40 I do have fines etc and not the same as as the 20 year old me.

Less is more when you’re older I find so I’m wondering will I look like mutton dressed as lamb wearing these on a meal/drinks out?

I find it’s the stark black colour that looks unnatural as I get older and my colouring softens. Wish more of them came in dark brown instead!

Winterwoollies · 20/02/2020 20:59

Fuck that. You are never ‘too old’ for anything. Go for it. 👀

Mummadeeze · 20/02/2020 21:01

I am 46 and wear them on special nights out. Think they suit me when I am glammed up, not in the daytime. It takes some getting used to but seeing myself in photos with them on gave me more confidence.

funkylittleboatrace · 20/02/2020 21:04

No way but I do work for an eyelash brand!,just make sure you find a style that flatters your eyeshadow and don't be afraid to trim them( from the ends).

Stampy84 · 20/02/2020 21:14

Try a lash lift instead! It’s an amazing alternative to extensions! I actually do this for a living. It adds length and volume to your lashes with no after care! I’ll try post a picture- google lash lifts in your area

Stampy84 · 20/02/2020 21:15

This is the results of a lash lift, they’re your own natural lashes, and no make-up is worn in either picture

Stampy84 · 20/02/2020 21:16

Oh my picture won’t post!

Potkettlexx · 20/02/2020 21:18

@Stampy84

They look so nice 👍

Mary Berry wears them! She looks lovely!

RoseGoldEagle · 20/02/2020 22:06

Stampy84. when I got LVL lashes done they looked fab for 24 hours but then completely dropped. The salon did them again for me but same thing happened. Was disappointed as they looked amazing to start with and I’m not great at applying fake lashes! Just wondered in your experience- do some people’s lashes just not take to LVL very well? Wondering if I should try another salon but not sure if it’s just my lashes and the same thing will happen!!

madcatladyforever · 20/02/2020 22:09

Pish. I wear them at 57 but very subtle ones not caterpillars.

Emmelina · 20/02/2020 22:11

Go for some sparse ones to begin with, just to enhance what you already have there. Then work up! I’m fast approaching 40 and they’re very much a special occasion thing for me. Be prepared to trim them.

TheFaerieQueene · 20/02/2020 22:12

I’ve always struggled to put them on. Which brand are the best (easiest)?

Isadora2007 · 20/02/2020 22:22

I said yabu as I hate the look of false eyelashes. So many people say they look so natural, so perhaps the genuinely nice ones haven’t been noticeable!

Megan2018 · 20/02/2020 22:25

I’m almost 42 and I do - well not at the moment as on mat leave and broke, but otherwise yes!

yogo · 20/02/2020 22:29

What's the best brand for a total novice? Asking for a friend Wink

Ponoka7 · 20/02/2020 22:39

I wore them in my 30's before they were all the rage. I used to put the individual ones on.

I think they are ideal for older women, especially if you've lost lashes/brows post menopause.

They open up the eyes.

olympicsrock · 20/02/2020 22:40

41 and recently had lash extensions. Very natural and had loads of compliments. Go for it!

Stuckfornow · 21/02/2020 02:05

@WaggleWiggle the eyelure 101 volume lashes are a nice mix of brown and black and not too in your face.

Womenwotlunch · 21/02/2020 02:14

False eyelashes can look great as long as they are not too long or too thick and is applied well.

steff13 · 21/02/2020 03:42

I'm 42 and I get lash extensions.

iVampire · 21/02/2020 03:48

I think expectations that older women should be limited to a narrower set of acceptable ways of presenting themselves is wrong.

People who think they look terrific with obvious false lashes should wear them and feel terrific whatever their age

‘Less is more’ is also applicable to any age, if that’s what the person likes

CheshireDing · 21/02/2020 06:43

As long as you don’t get ones like Katie Price would wear 😂- the full stick on type things that you lose one set of half way through a pissed night out !

Can you get individual lashes put on at a beauty place ? (Rather than a full set stuck on), I am sure my hairdressers/beauticians does that, presumably they stay on a whole then too.

WaggleWiggle · 21/02/2020 07:30

@Stuckfornow thank you! I’m going to seek them out!

LadyContrary · 21/02/2020 07:38

Loving this thread. Go for it OP! I’m in my late 30s and love lash extensions.
I’ve never mastered putting false lashes on, sadly. Is there a trick to it that I’m missing? Even just the strip ones...
